Even crazier, is that Monaleo and Kaliii sound like they want to throw down with some toxic men for their girlfriends on their new single ‘Flush Em’. This track comes just a week ahead of Throwing Bows, which will be her second LP of her still bubbling career. ‘Flush Em’, which features production from Bankroll Got It, is the third offering, as it comes after ‘Passenger Princess’ and ‘Don Who Leo’. The song is only two minutes long, but it goes through a lot of changes. On the intro, Doechii locks into a head-spinning rappity-rap flow while also mocking the idea that that’s what she should be doing: “They want real rap from a bitch like they outrappin’ a bitch.” The production, from Casper and DJ Miss Milan, shifts from New York-style soul-sample rap to something closer to house while Doechii screams that she’s everything. ScarLip is an artist who has become known for her aggressive-sounding songs that pack a huge punch. Overall, fans have enjoyed the fact that she is bringing a unique flare to women’s rap. However, she found herself in the midst of controversy with her fans this past week. After sharing a clip from her music video for ‘She’s Hot,’ fans called her out for twerking. Some felt like an executive told her she needed to do that, with others feeling as though it was all out of character. In the end, ScarLip apologized and revealed that the twerking concept was her own. Since then, the song has arrived and it is a banger. Overall, this song is very much in line with Scar’s previous work in terms of both style and substance. The bars are fiery and braggadocious and they are delivered in a commanding way that makes you believe everything Scar says. She is a breath of fresh air in the rap world, and songs like these will continue to ingratiate her with fans. Kenyan rapper Elsy Wameyo goes hard on new single ‘Umva’. The multi-faceted artist is breaking out, fresh from a cavalcade of red-hot performances in Brighton over the weekend. Debut album Saint Sinner lands on July 29, and each single seems to arrive as a ready-made anthem. With co-signs from Masego and Lady Leshurr, it’s clear that Elsy Wameyo has huge breadth to her sound. New single ‘Umva’ is a case in point – the shuddering beat points to Stateside hip-hop reverberations, but the icy atmosphere is sheer grime. There’s something else, though, something harder to pin down – Elsy’s flows aim to disrupt, and she’s constantly seeking out new modes of expression. ‘Umva’ startles with its originality, relishing the shock factor while also impressing with the sheer force of character at the centre of it all. Detroit hip-hop queen Kash Doll has dropped a new single and accompanying video called ‘Kash Kommandments,’ which sees her laying out some life lessons. The video sees Kash entering what looks like a formal business environment, looking executive-elegant, and then imparting her wisdom on a group of similarly-attired women. The lessons are pretty straightforward: don’t get fucked over more than once, get the money that you’re owed, and so on.
