Singer-songwriter Anna Shoemaker has announced her third studio album Back to Pennsylvania, releasing October 16 via +1 Records. Written after moving back in with her parents in the suburbs of Philadelphia, the record is a refreshingly candid portrait of returning home. As she sat at her hometown bar with her dad and his friends, walked the sidewalks of her childhood, spent time with her friends who seemingly had it all figured out, Anna reckoned with a new phase of life by returning to a previous one. From the fear of regression, to the self-discovery that reveals itself when life slows down, to the moments you can’t help but laugh at while navigating adulthood under your parents’ roof once again – Back to Pennsylvania looks at how an experience that feels like a step back initially can actually be a profound leap forward.

Alongside the album announcement, Anna has debuted the title track ‘Back to Pennsylvania’ today. Written shortly after her move from Brooklyn back into her parents’ home, the song became an emotional catalyst for the rest of the record. What began as a break-up song transformed into something completely different. ‘Back to Pennsylvania’ is a snapshot of the moment Anna began to see a setback as something more promising; a chance to see her flowers truly grow again. “’Back to Pennsylvania’ is a song about growing through pain,” says Anna. “It’s about returning to your roots and reconnecting with yourself when shit hits the fan.” The track marks her third and latest preview of the forthcoming LP, joining the previously released tracks ‘Girl Song’ and ‘Counting’.

So Faint is the collaborative project of Lyn Heinemann and Hannah Georgas, born from a chance encounter in a Vancouver recording studio and shaped by a decade-long friendship. After years on separate paths, with Lyn stepping away from bands, but still writing music for herself and Hannah building an acclaimed international music career that has recently seen her join Broken Social Scene for their latest LP Remember The Humans, the two reunited in 2023 to create the music they’d been quietly missing.

Now, the duo are officially launching the project and sharing their first single ‘Fully Slow.’ With Sean Sroka (Ten Kills the Pack) on board as a producer, engineering by Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck, Bully, Alvvays) and tracks mixed by Alex Farrar (MJ Lenderman, Soccer Mommy, Angel Olsen).

The track comes from the duo’s self-titled debut, which is also being announced. The album will be released on October 16 on a new label founded by Georgas called Beetle Bomb Records.

‘Fully Slow’ explores the quiet ache of wanting someone who will never want you back—while still building entire fantasies around the possibility, as Heinemann explains: “’Fully Slow’ is about wanting someone who you know deep down will never want you back, but still fantasizing that they do. I’ve always been very prone to pointless intense crushes that remain completely internalized. I can construct a full storyline about what might happen and never do a single thing about it.”

Claud announces their third studio album Me and the Music, due out October 23 via Dead Oceans. This is the first Claud album since 2023’s lauded Supermodels. Their new single and video ‘She Doesn’t Love Me,’ out now, is the first offering from the record.

‘She Doesn’t Love Me’ is, in many ways, the core of the album. It is a strident, driving anthem that doesn’t shy away from the pain – and still makes you want to, as Claud sings on the track, put your “beers in the air.”

Claud says, “I love the community I have in America and find so much optimism in people being united in seeking progress. This is a love song for that community.”

Ostensibly an unrequited love song, the track casts America as a toxic girlfriend. That metaphor comes to life in the accompanying music video, which follows Claud through a string of missed dates and unanswered calls before culminating in a sense of comfort and belonging found in community. The final bar scene features cameos from fellow Shelly members Clairo and Josh Mehling as well as Samia, Annie DiRusso, Hank Heaven, Josie Strick, Sammy Steiner, Harrison Allen, and Camille Johnson.

Does everything have to feel so heavy all the time? The 10 songs on Claud’s rich and resplendent third album Me and the Music find the 27-year-old Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter-producer grappling with that question and coming up, triumphantly, with something close to an answer: Things can be heavy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Things can be heavy, but that beer in your hand isn’t—why not hold it aloft for a moment, sing along with the friends surrounding you, forget your troubles for the length of a perfect indie-pop song?

Co-produced by Claud and John Congleton (Alvvays, St. Vincent), the album marks a milestone in Claud’s evolution as a producer. As encouraged by mentor Jack Antonoff, they take on a more hands-on creative role, crafting a sound that is both expansive and unmistakably their own.

Death Valley Girls are a staple of the Southern California rock scene. The city’s devastating wildfires provide heart wrenching inspiration for their new full-length, Welcome to Earth, after destroying lead singer Bonnie Bloomgarden’s home in Altadena. The record is out October 9 via Suicide Squeeze Records. Now, the band share the lead single, ‘Message From the Venus Flower’, alongside a video directed by punk legend Ian Svenonius. Over a funky, ’80s inspired instrumental, Bloomgarden mourns the loss of her beloved dog while celebrating their spiritual connection. It finds boisterousness in tragedy.

On the single, Bonnie Bloomgarden shares: “After the fire, Tommy, my best friend and dog, was not the same. I didn’t bring her medicine when we evacuated cause I didn’t bring anything, even my phone or car. My landlord, who lived in the house in front, drove us to her friend’s house, and it was weeks before we could go back. And when we could go back, everything was destroyed. I wasn’t sure if she was hurting because she wasn’t on her medicine, or if she was scared, or if she didn’t know why we left our home and was mad at me! Previously, we had done sessions with Animal Communicator Amy Wild, and they really helped. They had a session a month or so after the fire, and Tommy tried to tell me that her body didn’t matter, our connection was eternal, because we were eternal souls that reincarnate and meet up in many lifetimes, and moreover, we are always connected and together. The illusion of separation is a very earthly human concept. I told her I don’t care about our souls, I just wanted to know if her body was ok!! Less than a year later, she left her body. I was broken. I had officially lost everything to 2025. After lying in bed wallowing, I decided I needed to try some life. I went on our normal walk and passed by a flower, a butterfly pea (Venus flower.) As I stood there, the flower sent me a message like a lightning bolt to my brain! In an instant the flower shared with me what Tommy had been trying to explain! The flower explained it: IS Tommy. Everything I love is Tommy, because love isn’t just something you feel, share, or do; love is more like a dimension! anything that gives me the feeling I get when I think of Tommy IS her. Because love isn’t just something you feel, share, or do, love is more like a dimension! And you tap into it, or remember often most easily through a physical manifestation like Tommy!”

On the video, she elaborates: “Ian Svenonius is one of my favorite artists! His writing, music, taste, and ethos are genius! He’s a legend of innovation and is always evolving exponentially while still referencing essential splashes of the past with sincere reverence. Yet, somehow is always peak ultra modern! What he and Sandy Denton have created in the scene with the Rated Z Dancers is breathtaking. I can’t believe they agreed to make a video for us!!”

Caroline Rose (she/they) announces their new album, Gentling the Horse at the Walt Whitman Mall, out October 23 via SUCK Records, and releases the new single, ‘Chow Mein.’

Caroline Rose has always found the surreal embedded within the banal, and Gentling the Horse at the Walt Whitman Mall pushes that instinct to its furthest edge. The record constructs a hyperreal Americana fantasy where everyday life is asked to reveal its underbelly. The release doubles as the debut of SUCK records, Rose’s own imprint—a fitting next form for an enigmatic artist whose work resists settling into one shape.

Working with producer John Congleton, Rose built the album through humor, layering, and instinct rather than polish. It pairs sharply observed, memoiristic songwriting with expansive guitar textures that render the everyday with violent clarity and mythic scale. Beneath its melodic sweep and signature hooks runs a current of violence and American dream leakage. It’s Ennio Morricone with an AR15: surf guitars, spaghetti westerns, and suburban dread colliding until they become their own sharp vernacular.

The record dips into caricature to tell stories through Rose’s idiosyncratic aesthetic fantasies, as on ‘Chow Mein,’ which lurches between menace and slapstick: “a bouncer at the door // he asks for the password // I’m already drunk cause I // can’t afford a cocktail // I pause before I throw up all over his tailored suit.”

Reflecting on ‘Chow Mein,’ Rose says, “A lot of my songs I think of as scenes in a movie. I relate to characters who are a little strange, who are outsiders, who seem to fuck up a lot or find themselves in awkward situations. Most of these stories are just pulled directly from scenes in my own life, so the character is basically always some version of myself. This is a story about trying too hard to be cool and act normal, but everything is going wrong.”

“It’s strange how often women are defined by who they belong to instead of who they are,” says Mariel Loveland of indie-pop project Best Ex. “We’re so often viewed through the lens of being someone’s daughter, wife, or mother, rather than simply existing as ourselves. I wanted to write a song that pushed back against that idea.” That sentiment lies at the heart of ‘Good Girl,’ the powerful title track from Best Ex’s forthcoming sophomore album, which arrives November 6 via Iodine Recordings. Out now, the single serves as both the emotional and thematic centerpiece of an album that explores womanhood, adulthood, anxiety, identity, relationships, and the complicated process of growing into a version of yourself that rarely resembles the one you imagined as a child.

Ironically, ‘Good Girl’ became the song that defined the album before Loveland even realized she was making one. Written in a burst of inspiration over the course of an hour, it immediately established the sonic and emotional direction she wanted to pursue. Drawing inspiration from the emotionally driven alternative rock she grew up with while embracing the melodic instincts of modern pop songwriting, Loveland set out to create an album that captures a perspective she rarely hears reflected back: life as a woman navigating her thirties.

“I grew up loving these emotionally honest alternative rock records written by adults figuring life out,” she explains. “Now I listen to a lot of incredible younger pop songwriters writing about being in your twenties, and I love those records too. But I kept wondering—where are the songs about everything that comes next? About getting older, watching friendships change, questioning your purpose, grieving people you’ve lost, building a life, and trying to figure out who you are when adulthood finally catches up with you.”

Following the releases of ‘depressed on the internet’ and ‘born to lose,’ Bea Miller officially announces her new album, Mr. Peaked in High School, arriving September 18. The announcement arrives alongside her new single, ‘drunk enough,’ out now via Island Records UK/Republic Records.

Written alongside longtime collaborator Justin Tranter and producers Oak Felder and Dan Crean, ‘drunk enough’ explores the uncertainty of an almost-relationship, capturing the tension between the things left unsaid and the courage it takes to finally confront them. The song continues Miller’s candid approach to songwriting while introducing the emotional world of Mr. Peaked in High School.

Across Mr. Peaked in High School, Miller embraces the contradictions that have always fuelled her songwriting. Examining identity, perception and the lingering weight of early success, the album balances vulnerability with humour while refusing to separate the two. Across 13 tracks, Miller expands her sound with a band-driven approach that moves fluidly across pop, alternative and R&B, foregrounding performance, melody and emotional clarity.

On the album, Miller shares: “I think this album is going to be the best thing I’ve ever done… I feel like I’ve gotten my second wind at this point, and I’m ready to hopefully prove myself wrong for thinking I had reached my maximum level of success and would never be able to recreate that.”

Built from a foundation of live beats, bass guitar, and vocals (with the occasional Casio or harmonium), Nice Boat’s songs are lean without feeling sparse, playful without sacrificing emotional weight. Something one might have heard during The Smell ‘s golden age in Los Angeles. “We try not to think in terms of genre and instead focus on what sounds feel right in a visceral way… and that fits within our minimal instrumentation setup,” Mike Thrasher says.

That spirit runs through their debut album, I DON’T HAVE THE BANDWIDTH, which was written, recorded, engineered, and produced entirely by the band in their two garages. The album is out September 25 via Slouch Records.

Now, they share the motorik album opening single and video for ‘Sick.’ Clocking in at a lean 2:03, the track perfectly distills the Nice Boat sound that’s bold, addictive, and over far too quickly.

On the track, Thrasher shares: “This was the first song we wrote together. Dylan sent over some amazing, interesting lyrics with the original title of ‘Gaslight’ before it was changed to ‘SICK.’ I immediately started hearing the chorus in my head ‘the sicker you get, the better I feel’ over and over… It all happened very quickly, recording it at the same time it was written.”

Dylan Silver elaborates: “The lyrics were sparked by a real person from a complicated past, but the feelings reach further than that. I think we can all relate to those fleeting, flickering moments when the thought of someone whose hurt us or hurt someone we love crosses our minds and the idea of them getting hurt doesn’t feel all that wrong. In fact, it feels kinda great.”

Seattle-based band waltzerr is excited to announce their debut album Tomorrow Will Be Better out August 28 on Share It Music. Now the band is sharing the album’s lead single ‘ciggy b’ which is out now.

‘ciggy b’ captures waltzerr’s knack for pairing gritty, guitar-driven indie rock with bittersweet songwriting. ‘ciggy b’ explores longing for someone after a relationship ends, capturing the ache of missed connections, lingering memories, and unanswered questions, all while blending infectious hooks with a raw, nostalgic edge. The track balances restless energy and introspection in a way that feels both immediate and memorable.

In partnering with Seattle nonprofit record label Share It Music, a portion of the proceeds from the album will be donated to the Washington State-based organization Northwest Harvest. The organization provides access to healthy food to local residents and works to remove systemic inequities that create barriers within the state’s food and economic systems.

To celebrate the album, watlzerr has a Seattle record release show on August 29 at Sunset Tavern. Tickets are on-sale now.

Tomorrow Will Be Better marks waltzerr’s full-length debut. Across ten tracks, the album pairs shimmering guitars, driving rhythms, and expansive production with deeply expressive vocals to explore the emotional aftermath of love, friendship, and change. Moving between moments of catharsis and quiet reflection, the record captures the tension between holding on and moving forward, offering a collection of songs that feel as intimate as they are anthemic.

Primal, expansive, sexy and wrenchingly tender-hearted, critically acclaimed songwriter and performer THAO has announced her first album in six years. Titled quite appropriately Show Me – due out October 30 via Kill Rock Stars – the new collection is a deeply personal exploration of her journey toward full embodiment; a flaying of flesh and old burden to reveal the rapturously beating heart therein. It is a suite of lush, lovingly crafted and powerfully voiced songs that act as portals into THAO’s kaleidoscopic inner life. Show Me was self-produced alongside Nate Brenner (also a co-writer) and Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards and features special guests: Tune-Yards, The Linda Lindas, Neko Case and Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas).

Lead single ‘Sick of the Times’ is an art-rock protest anthem made for community activation and organizing. It is a sure fire anthem of and for these times and arrives alongside a powerful official video. Featuring vocals from powerhouse punks The Linda Lindas and close friend and collaborator Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards (who are also featured in the video), the song thrums and seethes and soothes, the infectious synth drum hook leading us into punk rock battle, the vocals uplifting and defiant. “I wanted it to be an anthem that will be used at political rallies, grass roots organizing and mutual aid events, anything that can help us emotionally prepare to activate and to stay politically engaged at all levels, but especially at the local level,” says Nguyen. “We need to keep each other buoyant, to remind ourselves we’ve got the numbers and the imperative.” Putting action to her ideas, THAO has teamed up once again with Working Families Power to donate $1 per ticket for her newly announced west coast dates.
