Fast-rising Irish punks Adore have announced their debut EP BITER will be released on September 26 via Big Scary Monsters. Fresh off a storming summer of festivals and touring, Adore mark the EP announcement with new single ‘Sweet Keith’ – a gnarled bouquet of gratitude and love to their people. Adore today also announce headline tour dates in Ireland for this autumn.

Produced by Daniel Fox (of Gilla Band), debut EP BITER is a seven-track sucker punch that proves this band can be brutal and unexpectedly moving at once. Drawing from horror films, vampire folklore and lived experience, exploring the quiet ways we contort ourselves to fit in – these are songs that howl and unravel; where fear becomes fuel, softness becomes defiance, and biting back is the only way out.

New single ‘Sweet Keith’ is Adore at their most tender and volatile. Fusing flurries of abrasive noise and crunching guitars with disarming honesty, it’s a tribute to chosen family.

On new single ‘Sweet Keith’, vocalist Lara Minchin said: “’Sweet Keith’ is a very honest and obvious song. One of my best friends noticed that a lot of my friends have far apart eyes, and came to the conclusion that this trait was much the same as ‘prey’ eyes in the animal world. She then went on to say that she believed that a lot of my friends had far apart eyes which then translated in my monkey brain as to be gentle and safe as opposed to predators which typically have their eyes right on the front of their face. ‘Sweet Keith’ is about my love for my friends and my love for how they always come as they are, their energy and their stories. It’s one of my favourite songs to play live and within the EP it is the beginning of what is to come for adore. Sweet Keith is the manifestation of all of my favourite people rolled into one name and when we play it live and people who I love are in the crowd I feel like it’s a song for them.”

Irish trio Adore have signed to Big Scary Monsters and release ‘Show Me Your Teeth’, a track fuelled by months of sleep deprivation, recurring nightmares, and the strange clarity that comes from staring fear in the face.

“’Show Me Your Teeth’ was written during a period where I had nightmares every night for 5 months,” says guitarist and vocalist Lara Minchin. “These nightmares often lead to me waking up several times throughout the night, resulting in several nightmares with different, sometimes interwoven storylines. An ambivalence developed towards these nightmares which then translated into waking life.”

Working once again with producer and Gilla Band bassist Daniel Fox, ‘Show Me Your Teeth’ doesn’t flinch. Jagged, heavy, and unrelenting, it demands the truth, whether it comforts or cuts. Lara drew further inspiration from horror films, vampire folklore, and personal illness: “It’s about wanting to see the imperfections alongside the ideal, about wanting intentions to be revealed; good or bad and the excitement of anticipation of the unknown being revealed,” Lara says.

Adore pull from a lineage of bands that made messiness feel deliberate. Their sound is angular, twitchy, sometimes abrasive; “Musically, I’m never quite sure what has inspired a particular song because it’s all rather subconscious, but I do remember I was listening to the album Deluxe 85 by Sanity Band and Double Thriller by The Glands on repeat!”, Lara recalls.

Irish trio Adore today release new single ‘Stay Free Old Stranger,’ ahead of three nights supporting Chalk in Belfast. Adore today also announce their debut headline shows in the UK with stops in Southampton, Hull and London in May.

Adore’s music is crystallised in its dichotomies; emotional, dynamic, loud, sensitive. Hailing from Dublin, Donegal and Galway respectively, the trio consisting of Lara Minchin (guitar, vocals), Lachlann Ó Fionnáin (bass, vocals) and Naoise Jordan Cavanagh (drums) possess an innate understanding of one another – “We are three feens with guitars and drums. We make music that feels right to us,” the band say.

Produced by and recorded with Gilla Band bassist Daniel Fox, new single ‘Stay Free Old Stranger’ explores an acceptance of detachment, delivered with an urgency that is distinctly Adore’s.

“I wrote ‘Stay Free Old Stranger’ when I was 16 years old with my best friend Lauren, and sonically was inspired by a lot of what I was listening to when I was a teenager: The Jam, Misfits, Frank Iero, Sleater-Kinney, Le Tigre,” says singer Lara Minchin.

With its scorched guitars, energetic drums and an unexpected jazzy interlude a fitting precursor to the song’s explosive, chaotic finale, ‘Stay Free Old Stranger’ embraces the idea of peaceful coexistence with “old strangers” who drift in and out of your life, and ultimately celebrates the “freak” within.

Speaking more on the song’s inspiration, Lara says: “It was written at a time of great social anxiety which was seemingly breaking into a carefree disregard for small talk and empty relationships which I had once harboured to make myself feel wanted. I was badly bullied throughout my childhood and into my teens and because of that I was so eager for people to like me -and I would give time to people who didn’t have my best interests at hand. I had always been a freak and I had grown up in an unconventional manner. And although I didn’t change my interests and my way about life, I definitely covered up parts of myself to make myself more palatable. The lyrics are juvenile. They are telling the story of being aware that some people might not care for you and that’s okay because you don’t have to care for them either. You don’t have to be everybody’s friend.”

Buzzy Irish trio Adore today release new single ‘Can We Talk’ – an enraged blast of melodic garage-punk, swiftly following the release of their explosive call to action ‘Supermum!’ back in September.

Produced by Gilla Band bassist Daniel Fox, new single ‘Can We Talk’ is a screeching cross-examination of cyclical patterns of abuse. Vocalist Lara Minchin’s lyrics are incensed, delivered at times with a wry humour “I love that I can see the rage / Why try to hide it, love?”, but at its core, Adore are demanding, crying out for change.

Speaking more on the song’s inspiration, Lara Minchin said: “‘Can We Talk’ revolves around a pattern of abuse where one is picked up when broken, broken down even farther and is moulded into something subservient, meek and willing to please. There is an awareness that one doesn’t get into these situations from a good start. In my experience there has been something unhealed in me that has made me lean into control in the past.

“It begins with not being allowed to disagree with small things, until dangerous patterns of behaviour come to the front and you are so beaten down and made to feel so worthless that you feel like there is no conceivable way you can leave.

“It’s sort of like a horror film, where the threat is always there; it presents with small poltergeist acts, a glass is smashed, the dog keeps barking at seemingly nothing, until the force gains more and more power as it feeds from your livelihood. It’s only when it gets genuinely frightening that you realise that the threat has always been there.”
