Co-written and produced with Handsome Ghost’s Eddie Byun and Tim Noyes ‘Side Of The Moon’ is a natural, hopeful jump from wellness anthem ‘Boundaries’, urging listeners to not just take time for themselves but to also make that time significant – ‘you are here/you have a purpose/your heart is hurting/but it’ll be worth it’ – the poignant chorus moved by a peaceful guitar and Aisha’s airy vocals.

“I’ve always sort of felt torn,” Badru admits, “between wanting to be someone who is very much a singer-songwriter and being recognized in the wellness space.” So now, she’s doing both. With each EP release since Pendulum, her full-length debut in 2018, this empath has been lovelorn, torn, and reborn. With The Sun Still Rises, her second LP, she plays the part of sage, beckoning us away from darknesses. “Yes, I’m an artist,” she continues. “But I’m very intentional about the music that I release: that it is medicinal, that it can soothe emotions. This album encapsulates the entirety of my growth.”

A piano-based rumination devoted to self-admiration and honouring oneself with kindness, ‘Inside’ comes in collaboration with Badru’s longtime producer Chris Hutchinson, where together the pair make aural magic. The release is joined by the soulful visual directed by Laura-Lynn Petrick, where you’ll witness mesmerising choreography demonstrated by the familiar presence Nyda Kwasowsky (as seen in ‘Lazy River’).

“I remember feeling like the ultimate goal is to find someone who loves you, and then realizing that the ultimate goal is to love yourself,” Badru shares. “Until you love yourself, you won’t really know what true love is.”

Following on from the sultry resonance of ‘Path of Least Resistance’ and gossamer folk-pop ‘Lazy River’, ‘Inside’ is another instalment lifted from Badru’s forthcoming EP – Learning to Love Again out June 2 via Nettwerk.

The new release, produced by GRAMMY winner Synematik, finds Badru weighing attraction against the fear of being hurt again, or as she says, “being afraid to be poked in that original sore spot.” The way she sings it, you wouldn’t know it. A confidence belies her vocals, which are sultry and knowing.

Known for her earthy voice and inviting aura, Badru again exhibits a delicate take on love and fear; ‘Path of Least Resistance’ facing each of these feelings head-on. Following its gossamer folk-pop sister ‘Lazy River’, the new release drives Badru’s healing process even further, and continues her journey of musical awakening, of which is unveiled in her new EP Learning to Love Again out June 2.

“It’s this freeing of myself and allowing myself to try things that people would not expect of me,” she says of her vocals. “I feel more comfortable not meeting those expectations.” On the meaning of the song, she adds, “It’s about the healing process after loss. Emotional healing is a journey. True healing takes time and there should be no shame or urgency in any step of the process.”
