‘Favourite Jumper’, produced by Michael Champion (Wet Leg, Swim School) and Paul Whalley (The Wanted, Louis Tomlinson) was born out of frustration. The expectations placed on women to be pure, agreeable, and quiet remain ever present, especially against the backdrop of rising right-wing political discourse across the nation. Gen and the Degenerates stand firmly against those outdated notions.

“Whenever the right wing is on the rise there is this puritanical pressure placed on women to be virtuous. Women are villanised for being overtly sexual and treated as if they don’t have agency or control over their own bodies.” States vocalist Genevieve Glynn-Reeves.

The track additionally speaks to bisexual identity erasure, challenging the persistent idea that queerness can be diluted or unvalidated depending on the gender of a partner.

“We see this reflected in rhetoric around bisexual women settling down with men and almost relinquishing their queerness to try and feel safer. I think this is the perfect time to rebel against that and be as slutty and queer as possible. And so this is really just a fun party song of sorts, from the point of view of a bisexual person (guess what – it’s me), discussing previous experiences in a fun way, but also attempting to reconcile an honest and healthy relationship with a partner, with the totality of that sexuality and sexual history.”

Commenting on the single, the band said: “Our new single is about the assumption that you’re the singer of the band just because you’re a woman. All female musicians will have an experience that they could tell you about where they have been spoken to as if they don’t know how to play their instrument. So we wrote this thrashy anthem for them (and us). Along this theme we’ve made a music video where we use guitar picks as fake nails, a trumpet as a hoover, and a jack lead as a washing line for our tiny pants. Because that’s all we could possibly do with instruments, right?!”

After selling out a string of buzzy gigs before releasing any music and literally several people asking “when are you going to put music on the internet then?”, the band are also delighted to announce that their hotly anticipated debut EP Don’t Look It In The Eye will be released on April 4 via Alcopop! Records, following on from their 2023 standalone single ‘UTI’.

Tea Eater is a New York City-based, psychedelic, art punk band fronted by Tarra Thiessen of Gustaf and Sharkmuffin. Tea Eater has built their reputation on delivering killer live performances, off-the-cuff lyrics, and a strong DIY ethos. Their upcoming album takes these defining traits to new heights while delving into some of their quirky obsessions, like butter and bugs. Through this record, they explore what it means to be the villain in someone else’s story – whether by accident or design.

“‘The Waffle Song’ is about a mean car salesman from Mars who loves waffles. One day he chooses not to be awful and rewards himself with a waffle. He only trusts waffles because he believes everyone is terrible,” says Tarra of the new track.

‘Double,’ the first offering from their forthcoming LP, produced and mixed by Drew Vandenburg (Bambara/Faye Webster/Of Montreal), came out of the jaws of lockdown. After a cross-country drive from LA to Lake Placid with members of Gustaf in March 2020, Thiessen submerged herself in meditation, Twin Peaks: The Return, and the expected existential crisis. This resulted in a song with plenty of 90s chord terror, girl group harmonies, and just enough surf rock shredding to tempt Tarantino to stick it in his next soundtrack.

The music video for ‘Double,’ directed, shot and edited by Gustaf’s Tine Hill, returns the band to Lake Placid with a decidedly Lynchian premise: Thiessen on a mission to kill her doppelganger. Written in the moments when social media became the town square, Thiessen thought on personas—or doubles—we create for ourselves. And, you know, the importance of not taking yourself too seriously. “These versions of ourselves tend to make us get in our own way,” Thiessen says. “By shedding our doubles and integrating the icky parts back into ourselves we’re able to become more whole and present people.”

Blending the surf chic of bands like the B-52s with a mysterious swagger reminiscent of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, ‘Anyway’ is a tight, energetic slice of modern post-punk built from a heavy subject. As singer Éliane Viens-Synnott explains, “This song was written in the early stages of dealing with grief related to miscarriage and pleads a sort of surrender to the strain it can put on a couple processing it.”

The track comes complete with a music video directed by the band. Indulging in VHS aesthetics, the video displays La Sécurité’s exuberant spirit, and eye for stylization. Following the 2022 release of their debut singles ‘Suspens’ and ‘Try Again,’ the song comes on the heels of the group’s appearance as an official artist at this year’s SXSW.

After releasing a self-produced debut EP in the spring of 2022, LAWN CHAIR returned to the studio in the autumn to record their follow-up. Eat The Beans And Wear The Jeans! was recorded with the help of esteemed producer Olaf Opal (The Notwist) and L.A.-based mixer Chris Coady (Beach House, Future Islands, TV On The Radio), who helped take the songs to the next level. The new songs present a new and interesting twist to timeless topics like unrequited love, the despondent boredom growing up in the countryside and the hardships of show business. With this new EP LAWN CHAIR are underscoring their rightful ambitions to a much larger audience.

New single ‘Sunset Heartbreak’ tells the story of a rural laggard who is constantly pitying himself and blaming everything but his own shortcomings. The song is packed with lethargic resentment and intense longing for that long lost love all wrapped in catchy guitar riffs and cowbell goodness.

Eat The Beans And Wear The Jeans!, due out April 28th, refines the band’s own blend of indie and punk rock, adding wavy atmospheres, jangly country guitars and the occasional synthesizer to the raw and powerful sound the band is known for.
