Symphonic metal sensation BEYOND THE BLACK are excited to share the news that their brand new album Break The Silence is set to be released on January 9, 2026 via Nuclear Blast Records. Alongside the album announcement, the band has unveiled a stunning music video for the title track.

BEYOND THE BLACK’s sixth full length Break The Silence is a concept album rooted in melodic metal with ethno influences, it explores themes of communication, inner strength, resilience and the urgent need to reconnect in a divided world. Tracks like ‘Let There Be Rain‘, ‘(La Vie Est Un) Cinéma‘, ‘Ravens‘ and ‘The Flood‘ examine how words – and their absence – shape our reality. It’s an emotional, multi-layered experience that mirrors today’s complex world and invites fans to be part of this new chapter.

Guest musicians on Break The Silence include Chris Harms from LORD OF THE LOST as well as Asami from popular Japanese power metal band LOVEBITES.

Singer Jennifer Haben commented: “On Break The Silence, we opened the door to new influences and collaborations. From symphonic to ethnic elements and guest artists who brought their own style into the mix — this album reflects everything we love about making music without boundaries. It’s a powerful blend of who we are and who we’re becoming“

Los Angeles-based “fairy-doom” trio Faetooth are taking us to the forest with the latest elemental preview of their forthcoming Labyrinthine, a sludging epic titled ‘Hole.’

The group’s new single, which follows earlier album teases ‘Death of Day’ and ‘White Noise,’ undulates through varying slow-gloom tempos, with the band injecting it all with a mix of skies-clearing coos and earth-cracking cries.

The supremely cinematic music video first finds a woman survival-mode sprinting through a forest clearing, and then she collapses in agony when faced with a fiery scene within the brush. Gutting personal loss gives way to the figure dancing with a burnt talisman in the charred cedar scene, though it gets profoundly more spiritual and otherworldly as the song moves on. Faetooth also drop by for a quick cameo.

“‘Hole’ is a meditation on the choice of confronting the past, or burying it,” bassist-vocalist Jenna Garcia explains of the song in a statement. “Sobering, waking realizations of cycles find themselves bared, culminating in an invocation-like verse that declares severance to all ties to a creeping past.”

French progressive metalcore outfit Novelists have unveiled their latest music video for ‘Adam And Eve’, a track from their most recent album, CODA, which dropped in mid-May. The visual was directed by Pavel Trebukhin, known for his work with acts like Amon Amarth and ERRA, and brings the song’s concept to life with a striking cinematic flair.

The video arrives as part of Novelists’ continued push behind CODA, their first album released through ACKOR Music—their own independent label launched with members of Landmvrks. With full creative control, the band has leaned into more personal and ambitious visual storytelling, as seen in this latest release.

‘Adam And Eve’ explores the story of a character who descends into a cult, with the video mirroring the track’s dark emotional arc. It even features a clip from televangelist Kenneth Copeland, used to underscore the song’s themes. Musically, the track blends heavy progressive riffs, soaring melodies, and a raw emotional tone that’s become a hallmark of the band’s current era—especially with vocalist Camille Contreras now fronting the group.

Holy Wars have just unveiled a new single and video, ‘Crucify’. Following May track ‘I Feel Everything’ – plus appearances at the likes of Download Festival and supporting Kittie this summer – the band are keeping up momentum with a new metalcore banger that has a painfully dark backstory.

“’Crucify’ was written as a reckoning,” explains vocalist Kat Leon. “Years ago, I got out of a toxic relationship – the last words my ex said to me were, ‘I wish you nothing but the worst.’ Within six months, both of my parents had passed away.

“I’ve carried the weight of those words like a curse, buried in grief and silence until now. Writing Crucify became my way of purging that pain and finally reclaiming my power.”

CASTLE RAT have released a new song. The new single, titled ‘WOLF I’, is taken from the mystical heavy metal band’s upcoming album The Bestiary, which is scheduled to be released in September this year, via King Volume Records (US) and Blues Funeral Recordings (UK/Europe).

Speaking about the new single, guitarist and vocalist Riley Pinkerton (The Rat Queen) says, “’WOLF I’ marks the gateway into The Bestiary, setting the stage for the epic journey ahead. The Wolf—fierce, solitary, and primal—serves as both symbol and sentinel, embodying the shadow self and guiding listeners through peril with instinct and ferocity. The track is a tempest of layered riffs and surging energy, building toward a thunderous, headbanging climax. With its haunting vocal chants and immersive atmosphere, ‘WOLF I’ expands the CASTLE RAT sonic universe—introducing, for the first time, a blistering, razor-edged solo by Franco ‘The Count’ Vittore, delivered with surgical precision and flair.”

Atheana’s path has been far from clear as of late. Amongst the writing and touring commitments of last two years, the duo has seen multiple line-up changes – something that would bring any band to its knees. Atheana, however, is not just any band.

‘Burden’ is the culmination of years of relentless determination from vocalist Soph Payton and guitarist Ross Jubber – confidently breaking new ground for the duo.

On the lyrical content, Payton said, “’Burden’ is an ode to those who are still searching for somewhere to belong; for anyone who has ever felt like they are too much while simultaneously not enough. Exploring intense themes of mental illness and loneliness It’s a song that is really close to our hearts as it permeates new vulnerable territory.”

Discussing the songwriting and recording process, Payton added, “after a (very) lengthy process, multiple iterations of the track, and a fair few member changes, Burden finally found life in the studio with our good friend and producer Ryan Williams. We have spent countless hours devoting ourselves to this release in its entirety and we can’t wait to finally share the next chapter of Atheana.”

Finnish melodic metal band Unén are thrilled to announce the release of their debut album, titled Forever Winter and set for release on August 29 via Frontiers Music Srl. The track ‘Black Heart’ is available, along with an accompanying official video.

Vocalist Stina Girs talked about writing the new song: “’Black Heart’ was the first song I was given to shape with lyrics and vocal melodies, and it instantly resonated with me. The title had been echoing in my mind for a while, and the moment I heard the music, I knew – this was it. The song dives deep into the darkness of a toxic relationship, one ruled by manipulation and control at the hands of a narcissist. But at its core, the song is about reclaiming your strength. It’s the breaking point – the moment you rise, take back your power, and refuse to be broken”.

Canadian genre-smashers SUMO CYCO roar back with ‘Villains’, a maliciously catchy, high-energy anthem that kicks off a bold new chapter for the band accompanied by a striking official music video.

Fueled by ferocious riffs and anthemic hooks, ‘Villains’ dives into the danger of misplaced idolization and the fragile line between hero and villain. It’s a high-voltage reckoning with identity, what happens when the world makes up its mind about you before you’ve had a chance to define yourself. With pummeling rhythms of lead singer Skye’s searing vocals leading the charge, the track channels the rage and resilience of anyone who’s ever been miscast, misunderstood, or forced into the role of the antagonist.

Produced by Salvatore Sam Guiana (Silverstein, Neck Deep & Devil Wears Prada) and Matt Drake, the band’s guitarist, the single was recorded at their converted church studio in Ontario and delivers a twisted dance party for the end of the world, equal parts satirical and sincere.

“The track poses a question,” says lead singer Skye who co-founded SUMO CYCO with Drake. “How do we show up in other people’s stories? Could we be the villains without realizing it? It’s tongue-in-cheek but rooted in real discomfort, about privilege, corruption, and the spectacle we’re all part of. I love writing lyrics that end in a question mark, because they make you stop and think.” [via KNAC]

Earlier this month, European modern metal band STELLVRIS released the single ‘Monster.’ Now, they’ve premiered the song’s high-octane music video.

Readymade for fans of Spiritbox and Holy Wars, STELLVRIS’ latest takes on the theme of a toxic relationship, whether romantic, platonic or professional, and urges the listener to push back and escape. As for the video, it captures the band in action, with vocalist Nicol adopting distinct personas, including a red-cast demonic one.

“‘Monster’ is our most unapologetic track yet,” she commented of the song. “We wanted to create an anthem that speaks to anyone who’s ever stretched themselves too thin for someone who doesn’t deserve it. This song is your permission slip to break free.”

AS EVERYTHING UNFOLDS have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘SET IN FLOW,’ is the brand new single from the UK post-hardcore band and marks their first new music since their latest studio album, Ultraviolet, which was released back in April 2023, via Long Branch Records. The release of the new single comes as the band sign with Century Media Records.

Speaking about the new single, frontwoman Charlie Rolfe says, “this song was written directly from the perspective of a replicant/non-human, starting off at the beginning of the song being told who/what they are: a carbon copy of another. Eventually we follow them wanting to distance themselves from what they were, slowly becoming confident and comfortable in their uniqueness learning how to be human, even reflecting on their previous existence in anger, being kept in the dark about their unique consciousness.”

BEYOND THE BLACK are delighted to unveil a brand new single, which goes by the name ‘Rising High‘. The highly infectious song is the first new material the band has released in nearly two years. Following the hugely successful self-titled album from 2023 that entered the German album charts at number 2, ‘Rising High‘ once again demonstrates BEYOND THE BLACK‘s unique flair for combining energetic melodic metal with elegant rock and pop hooklines.

Alongside the single, a captivating music video was unveiled, which you can watch below. Singer Jennifer Haben commented: “The silence is over: ‘Rising High’! A new era – and we’re ready to fly.“

NERVOSA have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Smashing Heads’, is the brand new single from the Brazilian-Greek death/thrash metal band and marks their first new music since their latest studio album, Jailbreak, which was released back in September 2023, via Napalm Records.

Speaking about the new single, the band shares, “this new single celebrates 15 years of NERVOSA, a resume of our musical journey throughout these years. Smashing Heads is a special release to commemorate this milestone and close one chapter before we unleash something entirely new with our next album. Smashing Heads talks about the obsession from the feelings that can drive you crazy. The sensation of being out of control because you can’t leave behind what you feel. Each of us has a different way to freak out and that is what you can see in our video clip.

“We worked very hard to bring our vision and ideas about that. Gabriela is an actress and she helped a lot with the acting and with the conception of the video. We recorded on the basement of our studio and we are very happy with the results, but we can’t wait to bring a new album and more new songs.”

Bringing forth the raw intensity and the electrifying dynamics that they’re known for, Broken Calling are adding another exciting dimension to their sound with the addition of the new vocalist, Tanzy Velane. Her voice, laced with power and grit, imbues a fresh energy into the band’s core, driving their signature sound to new, explosive heights. ‘VIRUS’ is more than just a Metalcore track; it’s a scathing commentary on the plague of social media, that omnipresent entity influencing our lives. The song echoes the silent cries of countless individuals pressurized into painting a perfect picture for the world to judge, while their authentic selves remain hidden beneath layers of pretense. It’s a rallying cry for truth, resonating with the anger and attitude that Broken Calling has become synonymous with.

Taking aim at those who doubted her return to songwriting and performing post-pregnancy, 51st Avenue’s Alynnis Zizza is empowered, fierce and forthright in their new single ‘Mind Your Own’. Pulling sonic inspirations from artists such as Bring Me The Horizon, alongside the score of hit series Stranger Things, the Sydney trio are continuing to expand on their proclaimed ‘hyper-modern pop rock’ sound with ‘Mind Your Own’. Thick guitars and syncopated drums back Alynnis Zizza’s impassioned, soaring vocals throughout, with the track culminating in a colossal bridge with guitar leads atop a half-time final chorus. Using technology to their advantage, 51st Avenue constructed the initial beat and synths for ‘Mind Your Own’ using a phone app. After scoping out the fledgling pieces of the track here, the rest of the song came together quickly, with the band combining with a sole direction for the track. Recording out of Keywork Audio in Sydney with Mark Williamson (Inertia, After Touch, Broken Earth), the band then sent the track across to legendary producer Kris Crummett (Dance Gavin Dance, Sleeping With Sirens, Real Friends) for the finishing touches and mastering. “We knew straight away what we were going for musically when we wrote this track,” the band say. “We wanted to blend the styles of Bring Me The Horizon with the eerie vibes of the Stranger Things score. The lyrics came quickly as our vocalist, Alynnis, was very early in her pregnancy so it was at the forefront of her mind giving the track the lyrical message it has. It started as a beat and some synths made on a phone app. The rest of the track came together pretty quickly, we wanted a specific vibe for the track so we knew what direction we wanted to head in. We’re really happy how it turned out!”

Conquer Divide have revealed a stunning video for new single ‘N E W H E A V E N’. “N E W H E A V E N was born out of the idea that you’ll never be satisfied with what you have if you don’t define your expectations,” the band offers. “We got together in Atlanta with Johnny Andrews for this one, and he’s a musical mad scientist. We played with religious metaphors, although the song is not about religion. You throw your whole life into something, and then you finally reach the pinnacle and get to pull the proverbial curtain back, but it’s not what you expected at all. So now you need a new high to chase. We did crowd-sourced gang vocals on this one, and it was fun to make that come together.” As for the accompanying video, the band shares, “This video was sort of a continuation from last music video where in the opening scene you see the Grim Reaper take his hood off to reveal he is now the priest overseeing the funeral. Kia figuratively ‘went to heaven’ and came back after realizing heaven wasn’t what it was cracked up to be.”

Brighton’s Industrial / Post Metal band Tribe Of Ghosts have today shared a brand new single titled ‘HIVE’. ‘HIVE’ is an all out barrage of frenetic and furious sound design and a vicious addition to Tribe Of Ghosts genre-melting discography that depicts a first person view of a world spoilt by dehumanisation and barbarous oppression. “When we were writing Hive, we felt that we were at a point where we understood our sound and what we wanted to create. With this in mind, we wanted to craft a song that sets the scene of the world that we build with our music, that explores the electronic and the organic, and declares our intent of giving into the chaos that oozes out of us on stage and in the writing process,” says guitarist Adam Sedgwick.

Portland metalcore band Dying Wish have announced their sophomore album, Symptoms of Survival, due November 4 via SharpTone Records. “Symptoms of Survival is an eleven-part piece covering the complexity of human suffering in all forms,” says vocalist Emma Boster. “From the honest and personal perspective of heartbreak, painful trauma, loss, rage, and regret — to the more objective perspective of war, greed, and ultimate survival.” The album features recent single ‘Torn From Your Silhouette,’ as well as the just-released ‘Watch My Promise Die.’ The new song has a great mix of melody and aggression and Emma says it’s “about the overwhelming anxiety of pre-destined failure. When you commit everything you have to one area of your life, the idea of it falling apart looms with such heavy importance. The song is written from the perspective of toying with that fear, allowing your weakness to overcome before you lose everything in a means outside of your control.” Check out the song and its Anthony Altamura-directed video below.
After the release of their very successful self-titled album Beyond The Black in January 2023, the band now share brand new single ‘Call My Name’ with their fans. Beyond The Black have also just announced their Dancing In The Dark European tour for 2024. Jennifer Haben comments: “With ‘Call My Name’ we wanted to create a song with whom you cannot help but bang your head real hard. It’s organic, honest and in your face. Inspired by the story of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower we’ve formed a symbiosis of its elements and our own to tell a whole new tale about yearning, persistence and these wounds of human life that feel as if they will never heal completely.” [via Metal Planet]

Sydney based heavy rockers Wicked Envy have released their devilish new single and music video called ‘Paralysis Demon’. This song will hit home for a lot of people who also struggle with these feelings and that’s exactly why I really needed to convey this into a song, to let people know they’re not alone in this demonic mind battle and it’s ok to ask for help,” says vocalist Desiree Hancock.
Nashville heavy duo Friendship Commanders present a new video for ‘Vampire’ from their upcoming album Mass, out September 29. Guitarist/vocalist Buick Audra says about the track: “There was a season at the end of my time in Boston where I was being turned into The Problem by someone who wanted to control me and couldn’t; it was a moment where I could have played small and gone along with what she wanted, as I had once done. But I didn’t. I played big. I kept what was mine instead of giving it away—which included parts of my identity. And while the result was a scorched earth reality that impacts my sense of self to this day, it also ended the whole thing. I learned a valuable lesson in that season: don’t fuel the narcissists. Keep your power for yourself. It’s what they hate. And if they’re going to drag your character out in front of everyone you know, you might as well burn it all down for the warmth.” [via Decibel Mag]

Melbourne Crustmetal/Deathpunk band Küntsquäd are excited to announce they have inked a record deal with European label Wormholedeath for their upcoming debut album release. The self-titled album will be released worldwide on February 24. With the announcement comes the release of the first single ‘Gods Of War’.

Visions Of Atlantis returned strongly with their studio release, Pirates, in 2022, followed by extensive touring through Europe and the US. There’s no time to rest for the Pirates, so they start 2023 with the release of a brand new high-quality official music video. Capturing their dedicated fans in the video, the rousing single ‘Clocks’ will make every symphonic metal enthusiast’s heart pound faster. Fixing itself in the minds of the crowd forever, catchy harmonies are underlined by bouncy metal beats. The single comes just in time for the band’s announcement of their Pirates Over Europe tour, featuring support from Autumn Bride, and kicking off in Germany on April 4. The tour will follow their Pirates Over North America tour, featuring support from The Spider Accomplice and beginning on February 7 in Los Angeles, CA. Clémentine Delauney: ”We are so excited to be able to release a video for ‘Clocks’ as we love this song and we noticed that it quickly became one of our fans’ favorites as well! We could tell from the crowd’s response every time we started to play this song live last year! So here is a fun portrait of what enjoying life as a pirate can be about, remembering the clock is ticking… Let’s all make a golden play out of 2023!” [via Brave Words]

In 2022, Delain strode boldly forwards, announcing a revitalized lineup and plans for a new studio album, entitled Dark Waters, to be released February 10 via Napalm Records. The album is a sonic rollercoaster ride of catchy tunes with explosive elements, ranging from pop to film score-inspired to blistering, room-shakin’ metal, and even includes a special guest or two. Unveiled this week, the new, emotionally-driven single ‘Moth To A Flame” also showcases Delain’s versatility, offering up a pop-induced hymn, and proving that the globally respected band are at the top of their game.
Waving the flag of a new generation of metal, alternative and punk, The Hellfreaks are thrilled to announce the upcoming release of their fierce new album, Pitch Black Sunset, set for release April 14 via Napalm Records. The curtain has finally fallen again as the budding band unveils their addictive first heavy rock-infused single, ‘Hit Me Where It Hurts’. Jumping right into the pit, the quartet blends metallic punches with a sound echoing the likes of genre visionaries Muse, accented by electrified guitar leads and raspy punk vocal attacks by singer Shakey Sue. Representing the relentless atmosphere of the song, the Hungarian musicians strap on their boots to celebrate a never-ending night in their official music video. The Hellfreaks state on ‘Hit Me Where It Hurts’: “’Hit Me Where It Hurts’ is about hope and despair. Hope is able to move mountains. But what if the desired dream stays a dream? Then hope turns to prison. Intoxicated by a desire that never comes true, we reach the dead end, where the brain clearly sees the way out, but our heart won’t let us make the necessary steps. All that’s left is suffering. This song is an invocation for the metaphorical punch to eliminate the last piece of false hope, the real culprit in such a situation.” [via Brave Words]

The band also deliver a music video for the track, ‘Free Me’. Jennifer Haben comments: “This album is the epitome of Beyond The Black and it’s arrived finally where it belongs: with our fans! We couldn’t be happier, and today we’re celebrating this release with the powerful, reassuring message of our new single, ‘Free Me’: Never think you need to go out alone and solemnly carry the weight of the world. We’re in this together and we are many!“ [via Brave Words]

It’s gonna be really tough for any metal song this year to be more exhilarating than ‘Pardon Me, I Have to Go Now.’ Hanabie‘s latest stunner is a distinctly modern update on the garishly fun electronic-core that took off in the late 2000s; neon party synths, breakdowns with the jingly catchiness of a radio hip-hop beat, and wheel-screeching turns between throat-searing screams and buttery cleans. Hanbie add flecks of traditional Japanese instrumentation and notes of hyperpop onto that pile, and the result is a blindingly fun anti-work anthem that’ll make you want to slam your computer shut and gleefully stomp it to pieces. [via Revolver]

Setting off into a new era, metal greats Delain recently returned with a new lineup, impressively proving that they are stronger than any machine with their standalone single ‘The Quest and The Curse’. Fuelled by massive support and enthusiasm all around the globe, the multi-million streaming leading outfit now finally sets the stage for their eagerly awaited next studio album, entitled Dark Waters, out February 10 via Napalm Records. The tracklist merges perfectly with the fantastic voice of new vocalist Diana Leah, showcasing her incredible talent and musical sophistication, which the brand new single ‘Beneath’ manifests. The vocal department holds new adventures with guest singer Paolo Ribaldini, who also highlights the track as the ultimate hymn. Along with a stunning music video, ‘Beneath’ takes the listener into a sinister underworld of the deep. Modern, synth melodies mix with catchy classical passages and ominous riffs throughout the song. Martijn Westerholt on ‘Beneath’: “’Beneath’ is a perfect ambassador of the album and Delain as a whole because it encapsulates almost all of the recognizable DELAIN elements you will find on the album.” [via Brave Words]

The experimental progressive death metal act Entheos have released a brand new single called ‘In Purgatory’ and a killer new video to go along with it. Entheos — which is currently vocalist Chaney Crabb and multi-instrumentalist Navene Koperweis — have always pushed boundaries with their music, taking inspiration from death metal, groove, grunge, jazz, and prog, just to list a few. They stripped down to a two-piece in 2020, allowing Koperweis and Crabb to explore whatever avenues they wish, and the proof lies in ‘In Purgatory.’ “‘In Purgatory’ is a direct extension of our last single ‘Absolute Zero,” says Koperweis. “Musically, the lead guitar and melodies that appear on the outro of ‘Absolute Zero’ became the seeds for ‘In Purgatory,’ and from there, the song wrote itself.” Crabb continued, saying that “Lyrically, it represents introspection and coming to terms with the person that you are at your very core. The video was shot and edited by the incredible David Brodsky and Allison Woest and their team at My Good Eye: Music Visuals.” [via Metal Injection]

In 2023, rising modern symphonic metal outfit AD INFINITUM re-enter the scene with their electrifying third studio album, Chapter III – Downfall, out March 31 via Napalm Records. The unit’s signature sound – consisting of heavy, modern riffs paired with haunting vocal melodies of incredibly talented Melissa Bonny – has positioned them for unstoppable ascension in the metal world. Following the massive stir caused by songs like ‘Marching on Versailles’ and ‘Unstoppable’ this next offering provides another wave of proof of the breakout success they have earned since the release of their debut album in 2020. With their freshly released new single, ‘Upside Down,’ AD INFINITUM enhance this addictive formula while defying all rules, combining epic melodies and demonic growls with finesse. The song goes in line with an impressively energetic official video setting a new standard in the band’s universe. AD INFINITUM on ‘Upside Down’: “As we hit the road for our European tour with Amaranthe, Beyond The Black, and Butcher Babies, we are proud and excited to present ‘Upside Down,’ the first single of our upcoming album ‘Chapter III – Downfall.’ We are looking forward to seeing many of you all over Europe and playing this new song on stage!” [via Tuonela Mag]

Swedish modern metal sensation, Amaranthe, are keen to release their brand-new single, ‘Find Life’, right in time for the start of their co-headlining European tour with Beyond The Black, which had been postponed numerous times. Olof Mörck comments: “’Find Life’ sees Amaranthe exploring a more somber and mature mood, all while keeping our trademark high energy rhythms and explosive riffs. Ethereal layers of keyboards meld seamlessly with a modern pumping bass line, topped off with some of the greatest vocal performances from vocalists Elize Ryd and Nils Molinyet. After quite some time we have reunited with video director and longtime Amaranthe collaborator Patric Ullaeus, for a video that is both intimate and explosive. We wanted to scale things down, and focus entirely on the individuals of the band, and Patric delivered as always!” [via BraveWords]

It was a real bummer when Salt Lake City doom-folk band SubRosa broke up in 2019, but the good news is that four of the band’s members — Sarah Pendleton (vocals, violin), Kim Cordray (violin), Andy Patterson (drums), and Levi Hanna (bass) — have continued on in new band The Otolith (which also includes bassist Matt Brotherton). The band debuted in 2020 with a song on Blues Funeral Recordings’ Women of Doom compilation and Magnetic Eye Records’ Alice In Chains tribute album, and now they’ve announced their debut album, Folium Limina, due October 21 via Blues Funeral. The first single is ‘Sing No Coda,’ a 13-and-a-half minute epic that pretty much picks up where SubRosa left off. Sarah Pendleton says: “The riffs for ‘Sing No Coda’ were cooking in our cauldron for a while, but it wasn’t until after we had weathered 2020 that I started to write the lyrics. I developed a strange, intense hypochondria throughout that year, and I know a few others who did as well. It became maddening, trying to discern fear from reality. But far worse was the loneliness, feeling like the most important relationships and friendships were stretching thin and growing tattered, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Now that the world is (mostly) out of the woods and we are seeing faces and traveling and playing again, it is massively cathartic to sing those words: Sing no coda, by the stream. Instead, my friends, wait, wait for me!” [via Brooklyn Vegan]

Faetooth, the four-piece doom metal band based in Los Angeles, is here to doom your day all the way up with their new single ‘Echolalia.’ Faetooth classifies themselves as “fairy doom,” and damn ain’t that an accurate description for it. The band perfectly blends crushing doom riffs with hazy, ethereal vocals for a result that’s equal parts turn-it-up-worthy and evoking some serious “grab-your-headphones-and-space-out” moods. “Echolalia is a meditation on the myth of the Tower of Babel, contemplating the competition between man and God as technology and cultures develop, as well as the ultimate futility of our efforts against chaos and decay,” said Faetooth’s Ashla Chavez Razzano. “The narrative of the song illustrates the toppling of the edifice, and man’s weakness against the products of his own creation.” [via Metal Injection]

Remember Black Math Horseman? Back in 2009, the L.A. band — vocalist-bassist Sera Timms, guitarists Ian Barry and Bryan Tulao, and drummer Sasha Popovic — released their debut album, Wyllt, a fascinating chunk of psychedelic post-metal with a gothy flair. They never released another project before disintegrating in 2013, but now they’re returning with a new self-titled EP out in October via Profound Lore. The band are treating us to their first new song in 13 years, a haunting, slow-building and absolutely stunning post-metal epic called ‘The Bough.’ [via Revolver]

International metal collective Chaos Rising has released their twenty-second single and video. ‘No Weakness’ is a classic heavy metal track, written by Stéphanie Nolf and featuring new vocalist Astrid Anayalation (USA). The song also features drummer Siddhi Shah (India/Dubai) and two other new Chaos Rising musicians, Keira Kenworthy (UK) on bass, plus an amazing guitar solo from Australia’s Andrea Krakovska. Founded by French multi-instrumentalist Stéphanie Nolf (Unsafe, Syrinx), Chaos Rising is a unique project that brings together female metal musicians from across the globe. ‘No Weakness’ will feature on Chaos Rising’s forthcoming double album.

Texas-based Southern Gothic outfit OCEANS OF SLUMBER releases their newest song, ‘Hearts of Stone’. The track follows their previous release, ‘The Waters Rising’, which came out this past February. Both tracks are off the band’s upcoming album, Starlight and Ash, which is set for release on July 22. “Lost and alone from birth, a product of the institution of life on the streets. Trouble follows this person around like a badge of honor. Grief finding grievances, the perfect formula of despair,” states Cammie Beverly (vocals) about the song.

US rock giants Icon For Hire announce their fifth album The Reckoning due on Sept 9 via Kartel Music Group, and unleash the second single from the project, ‘Dismantled’, a raging and powerful hard rock belter with restless, bristling vocals. Speaking on the track’s lyrics and meaning, lead singer and songwriter Ariel Bloomer says; “‘Dismantled’ came from a very raw and personal place, when I was at a low point. My therapist has been helping me get better at feeling my emotions, so I was sitting on the floor crying and just naming my feelings: broken, pissed off, used, like I’m being stripped for parts. I took that experience to the piano and came out with a ballad. The song totally evolved by the time we got to the studio!”. It’s this ability to deliver bristling lyrics while snaring a heavy and explosive sound that give an indication for where things are headed with Icon For Hire’s upcoming album.

After releasing ‘One More’ and ‘Obsession’, the melodic metal band Secret Rule, releases its third music video for the single ‘The Illusion’ along with the physical release of The Resilient album. Instead, to obtain the whole album on all the digital platforms, fans will have to wait until July 1st. Secret Rule says: “Looking at the future, as we always did, we see clearly the direction this world has taken, and we don’t like it. Social media have completely changed the 21st century, and today they lead and influence public opinion by applying debatable worldwide censorship. Today war is not only on the ground but also fought on the social by hits of propaganda well thought to bring society towards a precise direction, and we can’t pretend not to see what’s happening. Our rights, our freedom, and our lives are at risk. This album keeps bringing ahead our battle for the truth.”

Jinjer have unveiled a music video for their 2021 track ‘Call Me a Symbol.’ The clip begins with a stark message before showcasing some high-energy performance footage: “This video marks the 105th day of Russian invasion of Ukraine. How many more days and nights will our people have to suffer this horrible war?” Regarding the video, Eugene said: “I think this video for ‘Call Me A Symbol’ will forever hold a special and unique place in our hearts as a band. Filmed on our short but awesome European Tour in 2021 tour that almost did not happen because of the pandemic, and now released at such a dark time in which our country has been invaded and there is war on the streets of our home.” He continued: “I really hope this video and this important time in history gives people a new perspective that there are always two sides to everything. Good and Evil, Just and unjust – cherish the good times and face the bad head on… but never ever give up.” [via Consequence]

Montreal, QC’s Eternal Closure has long been a metalcore mainstay in the Eastern Canadian music scene, but is taking on a new identity with their next album At the Center of It All – Chapter I produced with Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy), which not only showcases their new vocalist, but also gives fans a chance to check out how they have progressed musically, incorporating influences such as post-rock, prog metal, and djent. The first look into their new album is the single ‘Practice What You Preach’, one of the band’s most aggressive cuts. They explain further: “This song is a full-on thrash assault for most of its duration. The chorus then becomes a bit more of a heavy groove. The riffs then become a bit more prog in nature while retaining the thrashy aggressiveness. After the end of the bridge, we bring the song down into a soft clean bridge that slowly develops into this anthemic guitar duo section and eventually goes back to the beginning of the song with the intensity at its peak. The ambient outro then leads directly into Exiled. The lyrics deal with people who think they have it all figured out and resent other people they judge not worthy of speaking on anything.” On ‘Practice What You Preach’, every member gets a chance to shine on one of the album’s most cathartic tracks, where old-school thrash riffs seamlessly blend with melodic guitar solos and modern production. The music video shows a woman starting to see the ugly side of herself that she buried inside, starting to replace who she thought she was. Mirror imagery was used in almost every shot to emphasize the theme. Montreal-based filmmaker Matt Veillette and his team really went out of their way to create powerful and evocative scenes that enhance the song’s message. [via Insane Blog]

Kallias is now streaming their progressive-as-hell new single ‘The Dark Machine.’ The single covers a ton of ground from Opeth-related weirdness to Meshuggah-esque rhythms, and then of course plenty of Jeff Loomis-style shred. So y’know, everything you’d want from a progressive metal song. “‘The Dark Machine’ is a driving force and arguably our most aggressive song to date,” said vocalist and guitarist Nicole Papastavrou. “JP and I really let our death metal roots come out for this one, and Zaki and Chris wove it together beautifully with some melody. The song is about winter, strength and commitment in the alpine.” [via Metal Injection]

Beyond the Black have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Reincarnation’, is the brand new single from the German symphonic metal band and marks their first new music since 2020’s Hørizøns. The new single is also the band’s first new music since signing with metal label giants Nuclear Blast Records. Speaking about the new single, vocalist Jennifer Haben says, “’Reincarnation’ materialized from a growing recognition of our mortality as humans and the consequent responsibility to live our lives to the fullest. This responsibility means to stand up for yourself, relentlessly fight for your values and also confront your biggest fears. Reincarnation is about becoming your true self and starts a new, epic chapter. This is BEYOND THE BLACK! And BEYOND THE BLACK is back!” [via Distorted Sound]
