Ex-Delain singer Charlotte Wessels has teamed with Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz for new solo single ‘Ode To The West Wind’. The track was released with an accompanying music video and can be heard on Wessels’ new solo album The Obsession, out now. It’s the fifth time Wessels and White-Gluz have made a song together and sees White-Gluz turn in one of her most melodic performances to date. In a press statement, Wessels explains that ‘Ode To The West Wind’ pulls its title and themes from a Percy Shelley poem, while the video laments how humanity has treated the natural world. She comments: “I’m thrilled to present the fifth single from The Obsession – and my fifth collaboration with the incomparable Alissa White-Gluz. RedHook and Holding Absence have unleashed a brand-new single together, ‘Dr. Frankenstein’. Taken from the Aussie band’s upcoming second album Mutation, the track “tells the story of a fairytale romance that rapidly devolves into a nightmare as one partner displays increasingly more possessive and controlling behaviour,” according to RedHook singer Emmy Mack. “But the bridge then hits us with a plot twist by suggesting that this emotional abuse may have spawned from the other partner being dishonest and unfaithful, thus posing several questions for us to consider: who is the real monster in this situation? Does making mistakes and hurting each other (emotionally) make us monsters? Or does it make us human? Ultimately, this song is about me owning my shit and taking accountability for my role in a past relationship that became toxic as all hell. During the break-up, I was guilty of privately indulging that kind of ‘victim’ mentality, but now that I’m a bit older and wiser, I feel like it’s important to take responsibility for the mistakes that I made too.” Emmy adds of Lucas Woodland’s unsurprisingly awesome guest appearance: “Holding Absence are one of our favourite bands in the world right now, and Lucas’ vocal talents are unparalleled. Approaching the 10 year anniversary of Fury’s debut album The Lightning Dream, the band have demonstrated their evolution with a new recording of a live favourite ‘Prince of Darkness’. Since 2017, the lineup of Fury has been slowly morphing into something new – now with bassist Becky Baldwin (Mercyful Fate), drummer Tom Fenn and lead guitarist Tom Atkinson (Vice) replacing previous members. But the most impactful shift to the band’s new sound is the addition of vocalist Nyah Ifill. Fury are currently working on their fifth studio album, with the release anticipated for Spring 2025. Nyah Ifill comments on her move from guest session musician to a permanent position: “As a newer band member, I’ve felt so welcomed by the fans and I’m excited to share some lead vocals! While I haven’t been a part of Fury during the Lightning dream era, I’ve admired the driving force of the songs and massively enjoy playing them live. It isn’t often that bands re-visit older material, and I hope that it’s a treat for the long-time fans! April Art presents the fourth single ‘Not Afraid’ from upcoming album Rodeo. Living Dead Girl — the pop-metal project helmed by powerhouse vocalist-bandleader Molly Rennick — are about to kick off a big North American tour, and on the eve of the first date, they teamed with Revolver to premiere the new video for their biting March single ‘Ugly.’ Rennick previously described Living Dead Girl as representing the two sides of her split personality — “one wears baby pink and Hello Kitty and listens to pop music, and the other a goth girl in fishnet stockings” — and the ‘Ugly’ video follows suit. It’s at once silly and violent, cutesy and incisive, delivering its social commentary in a fun, splatstick package. “‘Ugly’ is a song I wrote from a place of frustration, knowing many fellow women could relate,” Rennick tells Revolver. “It’s about wanting to be taken seriously for your contributions and skills without being objectified or undermined in any profession or passion. When it came to making a music video, we wanted to bring that idea to life, but in true Living Dead Girl form, it still needed to have an element of fun and humor. I paid some subtle homage to The Powerpuff Girls and their message of girl power and empowerment, while playing into the aesthetic of a campy horror movie. New England extreme-metal faction Escuela Grind have officially confirmed a full-length is likewise hitting us later this fall. The band’s Dreams on Algorithms is due out October 18, but they’re previewing it ahead of time with a fittingly disorienting single called ‘Turbulence.’ ‘Turbulence’ shakes things up a bit for Escuela Grind, marking the first time Economou has brought clean singing into the band’s discography. Then again, after a brief bit of Alice in Chains-esque doom-grungin’, the song incorporates a more shrieked and grind-blitzed pace. “It will be immediately obvious when you first hear this song that it is a departure for us,” the vocalist added. “We wanted to take a risk with ‘Turbulence,’ and after performing so many live shows over the last year we were ready to compile all that influence. The clean singing may take some people off-guard coming from a grind/hardcore band, but after touring with Napalm Death, we realized we wanted to incorporate that aspect into our music in a similar way. While the medication was really helpful, there were so many side effects that I’d never heard of. This song deals with some of them, and while it feels vulnerable to expose the experience, I hope it helps in breaking down the shame and taboo around the topic. Simone reached out to me as I was first opening up about this in an interview, and when the first version of ´Dopamine´ dropped on Patreon (because of course we’re each other’s patrons) she texted how much she liked the song. So when we were working on the album version it only made sense to ask if she’d sing along on the track. I am so happy she agreed and after all of the shared introspection, it was great fun to let loose wearing pink wigs in ball pits and marshmallow pools for the video recordings. Musically, out of the entire new album, ´Dopamine´ went through the biggest transformation. What started out as an EDM demo for a collaboration with a dance duo that never happened, became an acoustic Song Of The Month on Patreon, which then had a massive overhaul when rearranging it with Timo. ALUNAH have announced a new album. SEVEN BLOOD have released a new music video, The new music video, for the track ‘Killing From The Inside’, is the debut single from the German alternative band. The debut single was produced by Anfy Hartmann, mixed by Dan Weller [ENTER SHIKARI, HOLDING ABSENCE, BURY TOMORROW] and mastered by Dick Beetham.
