Halestorm have graced us with another eye-catching video in support of May’s Back From The Dead album. This time around, the hard-rock crew face the judgment of two fed-up priests as bandleader Lzzy Hale enters the confessional in a cavernous cathedral. Things take a turn, though, when it becomes clear she’s there to re-commit to a life of sin and spit in the face of God’s trusted warriors — as she howls in the chorus, “Don’t call me an angel/I’ll always be sinful/Don’t make me evil/But I got my wicked ways.” This all plays out against the gorgeous backdrop of the church’s candlelit pulpit, playing up the Heaven vs. Hell aspect of it all in stunning fashion. “In this eerie confessional, I’m confronting the darkness inside of me, but this isn’t my first time,” Hale explains of the vision expressed in the clip. She continues, “Thanks to the vision of Dustin Haney, who is also responsible for our ‘Back From The Dead’ video, I return to light that darkness that I will never betray.” [via Revolver]

Crystal Gates speaking of the single stated: “Feeling happy is great, but nothing can make us feel more alive than having the perfect tune to carry us through our saddest moments. After the release of the first single ‘See Me Fall’ with Veronica Driven on vocals, Break Me Down present ‘Lose Your Mind,’ a new track with a fast-paced rhythm, big guitars, and captivating vocals. Veronica, frontwoman of the band, says: “We all grew up with a happy ending: the prince who saves the princess from the evil witch or the evil queen. Many beautiful fairy tales have been written and many wonderful cartoons and films have been shot. But those stories are not true! We know very well that real life is not a fairy tale and there is rarely a happy ending. In a nutshell: in reality, the bad guys win. The whole process of writing our new songs started from this perspective. We wanted to give a voice to the villains of fairy tales and tell their stories, and their feelings. It is not true that we are only good or only bad. It depends on the situations we live in and which we are forced to face. Because in real life, when we are wronged, each of us can become bad and feel the desire to do evil, to take revenge. In these songs, our bad side wins.”

The Belgian heavy rock trio Brutus has not been heard from since the 2020 standalone track ‘Sand.’ But they’ll soon announce the details of their first album since 2019’s brutally majestic Nest. In the meantime they’re giving us access to lead single ‘Dust’. ‘Dust’ is everything you want from a Brutus song. The rhythm section hits with the frantic, unrelenting bluster of a violent dust storm. The guitar squalls and roars, somehow providing crunch and texture all at once. And Stefanie Mannaerts, the same person bashing those drums with such ungodly force and fury, somehow conjures even more elemental force with the human voice. “I never change/ And you’re still the same/ Always searching for more/ Always digging to the core,” she wails, as if her disgust and her rage are locked in a high-stakes battle for supremacy. A quote from Brutus: “’DUST’ was born out of the frustration of having friends with demands and expectations that were way too high. It’s a song about being at breaking point; pissed off about everything and everyone. ‘DUST’ is honest, direct and unfiltered.
