Produced by Matias Tellez (girl in red, AURORA) and co-written with Nick Hahn (ZAYN, Mimi Webb, aespa), ‘Closet Disco Queen’ is a bright, synth-driven pop track built on squirming, elastic synth lines and a driving pulse – pairing sleek production with Dagny’s unguarded vocal, before bursting into euphoric, chant-along hooks.

Lyrically, the track circles letting go of self-consciousness and allowing yourself to be seen, however that looks, captured in its repeated mantra – “be yourself / love yourself / express yourself”.

Speaking on the release, Dagny said: “’Closet Disco Queen’ was written after having been to a work party and seeing someone completely lose themselves, and all sense of space and time, on the dancefloor. I immediately felt that “I need more of that in my life”. Having become increasingly more self conscious over the last years and finding it harder and harder to open up and let people see all sides of myself, ‘Closet Disco Queen’ has become my reminder to not be afraid to open up, to dance and move and live loudly out in the open. It’s a refusal to be embarrassed or self conscious anymore. A celebration of expressing yourself.”

‘Dancefloor Erotica’ is a rush of sweat-slicked, Scandinavian ’80s shimmer, written at a moment of reckoning. During a 2024 soundcheck, for the first time in her career, Dagny recalls feeling detached from the songs she was performing: “They felt like somebody else’s melodies and somebody else’s words. They’re songs that I will always love – but I knew right then that I needed something new, something that gave a renewed sense of purpose, a sense of evolution – something I could move to in a new way.”

Produced by Matias Tellez (CMAT, Girl in Red, Maisie Peters) and co-written with Nick Hahn (Zayn, Sigrid, Mimi Webb), ‘Dancefloor Erotica’ is the first single from a new project from Dagny – the follow-up to 2024 mini-album ELLE. The track marks a move towards a more self-directed and uncompromising expression, introducing a more physical, more direct and dance-driven sound, as Dagny explains:

“Forget about falling in love and heartbreaks; my new era is all about self expression, movement and desire. The dancefloor does not refer to a physical place – it’s a mindset. It’s freedom. It’s a space where everyone can do their thing. This is the mantra: everyone’s a dancer.”

ELLE is the first instalment in a trilogy of mini-albums Dagny is planning for release over the coming months, and stands as the long-awaited the follow up to her widely acclaimed 2020 debut full length Strangers / Lovers.

Dipped in sugar sweet synths and driven by propulsive percussion, for ‘Strawberry Dream’ Dagny reunited with sibling writing and production pair Cato Sundberg and Kent Sundberg – whom Dagny also worked with on Strangers / Lovers. Epitomising the bright, expansive electro-pop that Dagny has refined and perfected in recent years, of the new single’s inspiration Dagny shared:

“If we were in a romantic comedy movie, then ‘Strawberry Dream’ would soundtrack the scene where the main character realises “their person” has been there, right under their nose, the entire time and now’s the time for action. A bit like my personal favourite romcom character; Bridget Jones, and her Mark. They say something like 70 percent of people have met the love of their life before aged 21. Mindblowing facts to me, but who knows? The title is undoubtedly inspired by one of my favourite pick and mix candy bites, the ‘Strawberry Dream’.”

Awash with melancholy, 90’s indie-pop inflected new single ‘Ray-Bans’ is one of Dagny’s most assured, yet most introspective tracks to date. With her emotions and vulnerability concealed behind a mask, ELLE questions her own standing in the midst of the post-break up blues – “Am I all that tragic?” – all the while attempting to accept a new reality and move forward.

Of the new single, Dagny said: “Inspired by the 90s melodic and melancholic pop; Ray-Bans offers a different mood and shows a slightly more vulnerable side than some of my previous music. I hope it can soundtrack the melancholia of the autumn, for those who might need it.”

A blast of glistening synth-pop addressing notions of losing sight of oneself in the throes of romance, ‘Same Again (For Love)’ is the latest taste of Dagny’s second full length project, following her widely praised 2020 debut album Strangers / Lovers.

Speaking on the lyrical inspiration behind ‘Same Again (For Love)’, Dagny said: “Have you ever lost yourself in a relationship? Have you wished so desperately for it to work that you change things you like about yourself to fit the other person? Have you made compromises to the point where you completely lose sight of who you actually are and what you truly stand for? I have. And I won’t do that again…”

Highlighting her reckless streak – by her own admission – ‘Heartbreak In The Making’ – co-written with Oliver Lundström (Carly Rae Jepsen) and Maria Hazell (Mabel, ALMA), is a slice of indie-pop perfection hinting at reference points such as The Cardigans, Alanis Morissette and Haim.

“I’m giving in when I know how it ends / You feel like a heartbreak in the making” Dagny sings in the track’s chorus, as she explores the impulsive side of her personality to a backdrop of psych-tinged guitar passages, pulsating drums and soaring harmonies.

Speaking on the lyrical inspiration behind ‘Heartbreak In The Making’, Dagny said: “‘Heartbreak In The Making’ is essentially about diving into something, even though you have that gut feeling that it’s never going to end well. It’s a bit like the first tequila shot at a bar; you know where the night is headed, but you do it anyway.”

The last song to be released before she begins work on her much-anticipated second full length album, ‘Highs & Lows’ is a moving, personal pop ballad centred around the notion of standing by someone during the most difficult of times.

Dagny said the following of the new single: “I’m very happy to announce ‘Highs & Lows’ – one of the last songs before diving into the process of making a new album. ‘Highs & Lows’ is one of the most raw songs I’ve ever written. You could say it’s about unconditional love – about steadily standing by someone’s side through all the highs and the lows, all the easy and the challenging. I hope this song is gonna feel like a warm hug for someone who needs it.”
