The first single and title track from Flummox‘s new album, ‘Southern Progress,’ is out npw via Needlejuice Records. Their sound often described as genrefluid, Flummox runs metal’s sonic gamut, blending prog, doom, thrash, symphonic thrash, mathcore and blackened death metal with a healthy dose of Mr. Bungle-style eccentricity. New single ‘Southern Progress’—the title track from the queer / transfemme Nashville band’s forthcoming album (out spring 2025 on Needlejuice Records)—follows suit as a jaw-dropping mission statement, taking everything Flummox does well, smashing it together in a particle collider and cranking the volume. “I usually work on my songs for months, even years before completion,” says bassist / lead singer Alyson Blake Dellinger. “But with ‘Southern Progress’ I wrote the majority of the arrangement in half an hour. Kittie have unveiled the new song and video ‘One Foot in the Grave,’ the latest single from their forthcoming comeback album, Fire, arriving June 21. Unlike the previous, more groove/thrash-oriented singles, ‘One Foot in the Grave’ harkens back to Kittie’s origins during the peak of the nu-metal movement. The glossy vocal production is theatrical and very early 2000s, while the deliberate slam-chords and pop-punkish tempo change are characteristic of Kittie’s early material. Given those subtle anachronisms, it’s slightly ironic that the song is actually about “letting go of the demons of the past to begin anew,” according to singer-guitarist Morgan Lander. “The excitement is palpable in anticipation of our forthcoming album release, with the unleashing of our latest offering ‘One Foot in the Grave,’” hyped Lander in the press release. “It’s a feisty, high-energy song about coming back from the dead and rising from the ashes so to speak, paralleling our real life experiences as of late.” [via Consequence]

The new line-up of Finnish-Ecuadorean melodic heavy metal band BLACK SUN shares ‘Drown In Sin’ the second single from their forthcoming self-titled album. Fronted by the formidable Netta Laurenne, Black Sun is completed by founding members Nicolas Estrada (drums), Christopher Grünberg (guitar), and Santiago Salem (bass) as well as the band’s producer, Thunderstone guitarist Nino Laurenne. As a result, Ecuador and Finland are now bonded and represented by a band that is one of a kind. With this new lineup, Black Sun entered the studio to record a full-length album, which was recorded at Hi Noiz Studio and Sonic Pump Studios, produced and mixed by Nino Laurenne, and mastered by Svante Forsback (Rammstein, Apocalyptica, Volbeat, Amaranthe). About the track, Netta shares: “‘Drown In Sin’ is a song about the decay and malice of the human race. Progressive death metal duo, Entheos, unleashes their latest single, ‘Life In Slow Motion’. Lacey Sturm has debuted a music video for her aggressively introspective new song ‘Reconcile’, a long-awaited follow-up to 2021’s ‘Awaken Love’. “My own humanity can be so divided. When I cling to my rights by pointing out the faults of others, I splinter myself. All of this division is rooted in my own pride,” Sturm shares. “Have I arrogantly supposed that I could somehow reconcile the world around me if I am not reconciled within myself?” Lacey’s personal process of looking inward to bring herself into congruence with her ultimate human purpose informs ‘Reconcile’. The track is an unflinching mirror held up to the uncomfortable ways in which she acknowledges her own contribution to the world’s brokenness through arrogant pride: personal pride, relational pride, religious pride. Now, Svalbard have announced the impending release of their new LP The Weight Of The Mask. Svalbard recorded the new album with longtime collaborator Lewis Johns, and it’s all about turning depression into aggression. Svalbard have dropped the video for opening track ‘Faking It,’ which sounds tremendous. Butcher Babies have released the official music video for their new single, ‘Red Thunder’, which explores the band’s darker side by leaning into their thrash/djent roots with an explosive guitar solo.
