Today Sydney emo-pop duo The Admired share the track that started it all. Described by frontwoman Bianca Davino as “the spark that really kicked off our direction for The Admired”, ‘Fame&Money’ is the last of three tracks that make up the band’s mini-EP 3 songs. The record also includes 2010s-inspired it-girl anthem ‘Dancefloor’ and nostalgic love letter to Tumblr-era fan culture, ‘All I’ve Got’.

Written from the perspective of a complex but larger-than-life main character, ‘Fame&Money’ delves into passion, ambition, and the ups and downs of chasing the spotlight. Both thematically and musically, ‘Fame&Money’ feels right at home with The Admired’s recent singles, drawing inspiration from core 2000s emo influences like Motion City Soundtrack and The Starting Line.

Looking ahead, Bianca says that, along with guitarist Max Jacobson, the band will hit the studio with brand new demos in the new year. “We’re really proud of how these songs turned out, and we’re super excited to build on the sound and vision early next year to record a new EP.”

Massachusetts emo upstarts Hyber just soundtracked your next existential spiral with ‘Waiting For Your Call’––their new song out today. Produced by Chris Curran and mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Will Yip (The Wonder Years, Tigers Jaw, Turnstile), it’s a melodic burst of emotional overload, built for long drives, sleepless nights, and anxious scrolling.

Led by Kris Musto (she/her) on vocals and rhythm guitar, alongside Nick Arathuzik (he/him, lead guitar), Gabriel Santos (he/him, bass), and Jeanette Abbene (she/her, drums/backing vocals), Hyber makes joyously pissed-off emo for those of us who feel too much and text back too fast.

Sonically they channel the raw nerve of Movements, the sugar-high hooks of The Beths, the self-aware angst of The Wonder Years, and the “it’s not a phase” stamina of early Fall Out Boy. They’re a bit younger and messier but equal parts melodramatic and melodic; built for basement shows and downward spirals alike.

‘Waiting For Your Call’ is Hyber, unfiltered; distorted guitars, a whiplash-inducing chorus, and a Space Invaders-style pick slide at 2:15 (left in by accident, but embraced with their full chest) define the track’s pulse. The single is also paired with a chiptune remix b-side—a video-game battle anthem for anyone tired of waiting on closure. Think: final boss fight music, but make it emotionally devastating, too.
