Opening with running bass underpinning a melancholic hook, ‘Looking Back’ quickly moves to leverage shimmering guitars and masterful use of drums to communicate an urgent plea – “Stop wasting what you don’t have”. It’s a track about taking advantage of time, our most finite resource on an individual level, and the importance of showing ourselves a bit of compassion if we make mistakes in the process.

On the single, ENOLA shares “This song, to me, speaks of the need to be gentle on yourself, forgive yourself, forgive everyone and let go. You do not need to suffer or come close to your own mortality to truly appreciate the moment in front of you, life is too fleeting to hold onto so much guilt and shame, and things that no longer serve you.”

Opening with sparing guitar and bass over a fuzzy soundscape, almost mirroring the false sense of safety that failing systems often perpetuate, ‘Metal Body’ is an intensely personal song that highlights the songwriting power from the rising multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter. The pain of these frustrations can be heard, as the song contorts through dense walls of sound and paired back verses that command just as much attention.

ENOLA shares of the track, “‘Metal Body’ explores our failing healthcare systems and entities, my own experiences in witnessing loved ones fall victim to these failures, and in turn feeling my own frustration of bearing witness to such.”

They add, “Sonically I leant into 90’s grunge and shoegaze as influences for this track, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine & Pixies to name a few.”

Taking cues from the no-wave sounds of Joy Division and Suicide’s Alan Vega, the post-punk of IDLES and Fontaines D.C. underpinned by a background in electronic music production, ENOLA infuses hard hitting tracks with a stinging vulnerability, applying the salve to the self-inflicted wound.

‘Strange Comfort’ is bursting with punk vitality, driven by fuzzy guitars and brusque vocals, motioning forward along a knife’s edge. Centered around the resounding line, “there’s a strange comfort in us all going through the same,” it evokes an urgency of time running out.

ENOLA says of the track, “There is a comfort in knowing that suffering can be a universal experience. We are alone, yet together in our aloneness.”
