Lake Malice unleash their “dark pop-metal takedown of vanity and nepotism in the music scene”. Already a live favourite, ‘Nobody Wants To Be You’ embraces vocalist Alice Guala’s sassy Italian flair, calling out the superficial, nepotistic and self-obsessed. In a system where meritocracy feels absent, Lake Malice channel their frustrations through industrial rhythms and choruses exploding with energy. ‘Nobody Wants To Be You’ is a metal-core weapon, serving as a cathartic scream against industry fakery. The track exemplifies Guala’s vocal prowess, as she seamlessly shifts between pure, soaring melody and guttural aggression. ‘Nobody Wants To Be You’ was produced by Lake Malice guitarist extraordinaire Blake Cornwall, alongside Jon Cass, mixed by Carl Bown and mastered by Ste Kerry. The accompanying music video, directed by Zak Pinchin, is a dark and highly stylised affair, complete with the backup dancers who we’ve seen grace the stage with Malice this summer.

Canadian metal outfit Juliet Ruin has dropped their electrifying second single and music video ‘Reactance Theory,’ off their upcoming EP Regime, set to release November 7. Known for their genre-fluid blend of chunky riffs, soaring melodies, and emotionally raw lyricism, Juliet Ruin is back with what may be their most collaborative and high-energy track to date.

‘Reactance Theory’ explores the psychological concept coined by Jack Brehm, which explains why people resist threats to their personal freedom. The song dives into the dopamine-fueled impulses that drive rebellion, wrapped in a belted, catchy vocal performance that came together in a moment of serendipity. Vocalist Jess Fleming mistook the verses for the chorus during the writing process, resulting in a track that’s relentlessly energetic from start to finish.

“This song came together with a lot of input from each member. Wes brought in the initial hook guitar lead, and we built it piece by piece. It’s probably one of the most collaboratively written songs we’ve ever done,” says the band.

The accompanying music video amplifies the song’s themes with visceral visuals and dynamic performance shots, capturing the band’s signature live energy and studio-tight execution.

EVA UNDER FIRE return with the riveting and demon-conquering ‘Awakening.’ Out now, it’s the first taste of new music in two years from the Detroit, MI quintet, signaling perhaps that this could be the start of a new album campaign.

‘Awakening’ is a blistering and inspirational anthem from Amanda Lyberg (vocals), Rob Lyberg (lead guitar), Chris Slapnik (rhythm guitar), Ed Gawlik (bass), and Dave Miller II (drums). “The guys and I are stoked about the upcoming album,” proclaims Amanda, whose gutsy vocals spectacularly cut through the raging guitars. “These songs are everything we wanted to write. We made sure it was the most honest version of our story. ‘Awakening’ is an anthem about conquering personal demons. The rest of the album is what it took to get there. It’s also a story packaged in the heaviest riffs we’ve ever played so I think listeners will be pleasantly surprised. Cheers to the new era!”

IVY CROWN have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘This Delusion,’ is the brand new single from the Danish metalcore band and marks their first new music since 2019’s Echo.

The new single was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen [VOLBEAT, AMARANTHE, EPICA] at Hansen Studios. It features a collaboration with Helle Bohdanova, vocalist of the Ukrainian metal band IGNEA, and marks a new era for the band with Maja Shining [FOREVER STILL, MYRKUR] joining as the band’s new vocalist.

Speaking about the new single, vocalist Maja Shining from the band shares, “Helle has been a good friend over the years, so when we had the conversation about features for the album, I immediately knew that she was the right choice. I could already hear her powerful growls when I wrote the vocal parts for ‘This Delusion’.”

Finnish heavy metal sensation BATTLE BEAST proudly release their seventh studio album, Steelbound — an electrifying and highly anticipated record that marks a bold new chapter for the band.

To mark the release, BATTLE BEAST have also unveiled a brand-new music video for ‘Twilight Cabaret’, offering fans another glimpse into the vibrant world of Steelbound.

Daedric are getting closer to the Light. The Texas metalcore adventurists are about to release their sophomore LP, As the Light Left, and the band teamed with Revolver to premiere the collection’s fearless first track, ‘The Other Terror,’ along with its striking music video.

The new song follows recent singles ‘Sand Tiger’ and ‘Undone,’ and while some of the album previews thus far have taken on turntable-twisting flavors of early nu-metal, ‘The Other Terror’ contorts itself through a concussively modern arrangement.

Above the world-imploding drum kicks and darkly detuned riffage, vocalist Kristyn Hope weaponizes melodic rasps and monstrous bleghs as dangerous as the “blades” in her mouth — and certainly the big straight sword she’s brandishing in the video (“I think I’ve killed now”).

THE PRETTY WILD have released a brand-new single. The new track, titled ‘AFTERLIFE,’ features MAGNOLIA PARK and is taken from the band’s upcoming debut album zero.point.genesis, which is scheduled to be released on November 21 via Sumerian Records.

Speaking about the new single, the band says, “’AFTERLIFE’ circles the idea of star-crossed souls bound by something ancient and unbreakable. Conceptually it’s plucked from the kind of love you find in mythology and old tragedies, where you have this obsessive devotion and destruction. It isn’t perfect, but it’s dark, beautiful, and eternal.”

Adding to this, Jyl shares, “’AFTERLIFE’ explores the idea that love dynamics are rooted in codependent magnetism and resonance patterns. It asks, what happens when obsession doesn’t end with death, but carries your soul into magnetising eternal dynamics? The result is kinda tragic and romantically glitchy. It’s basically a pop-metal requiem.”

AD INFINITUM have released a brand new music video. The Swiss/German modern metal unit have unveiled ‘Regicide,’ a new single released just ahead of their very first European headline tour.

Speaking about the new single, the band says, “as we prepare to kick off our first European headline tour, we’re thrilled to surprise our fans with a brand new song. One they’ll already be able to experience live in just a few days. ‘Regicide’ blends the dark soundscapes of Abyss with a bolder, more rebellious energy.”

ENTHEOS have released a brand new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Empty On The Inside,’ is a standalone single from the American progressive death metal band and is their first new music since their latest EP, An End To Everything, which was released in October last year, via Metal Blade Records. The new music video was directed by Malcolm Pugh.

Speaking about the new song, vocalist Chaney Crabb says, “’Empty On The Inside’ is a raw, cathartic song about pouring your entire soul into something that you thought would bring fulfillment to your life, but it only makes you feel empty in return. It is ENTHEOS in our purest form, expanding on our grunge and alternative metal sound. This track truly marks the beginning of a new era for our band.”

UK metal band, Cage Fight – Rachel Aspe (vocals), James Monteith (guitar), Nick Plews (drums) and Will Horsman (bass) – have released new single, ‘PIG.’

On ‘Pig’, Rachel calls out the creepy men who send women unsolicited messages online. The video includes real messages sent directly to Rachel and to other women that volunteered the inclusion of their experiences.

Vocalist Rachel Aspe commented: “’PIG’ is the expression of my disgust of men sending unsolicited intimate pictures, messages, crossing boundaries and harassing women digitally. I’ve had hundreds over the years, and it’s crazy to think that everyday women regularly get these messages. I just wanted to scream my hatred to them, raise awareness of the issue and show solidarity to other women who experience this abuse.”

Finnish melodic metal band Unén share their new single ‘In My Bones’ via Frontiers Music Srl. Singer Stina Girs describes the new single, by saying: “’In My Bones’ tells what it feels like to be in a relationship with a narcissistic manipulator. When you love someone who exploits your love and trust, does terrible things, and even turns you against other people you care about. All of this leaves scars that linger beneath the surface for years, and the anger from it feels deep in your bones.”

Brighton-based metal four-piece KNIFE BRIDE have released a killer new single ‘TERRITORY’, as they gear up to head off on tour around the UK with Defects and Profiler later this month. Influenced by the likes of Bring Me The Horizon, Spiritbox and Evanescence, ‘TERRITORY’ brings frontwoman Mollie Clack’s impassioned and compelling vocal to the fore. Mollie says “’Territory’ is a love song, believe it or not. It was written after a hostile exchange and I see it as a kind of diary entry, I guess. It’s very dramatic and purging and really highlights how crazy love can make you.”

Jinjer have announced their upcoming fifth album, Duél, and offered up a new song, the haunting ‘Kafka.’ In contrast to preceding singles ‘Rogue’ and ‘Someone’s Daughter,’ which lean into the Ukrainian band’s heavier, djent-ier inclinations, the latest cut is a slower-burning power ballad — though it does ultimately erupt into crushing riffery and roaring vocals, the latter of courtesy of powerhouse vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk. The song arrived along with a striking video featuring artwork and animation by Oleksii Zatserkovnyi. Shmayluk commented of ‘Kafka’: “Being an artist is sometimes beautiful but most of the time it’s brutal… as our art is dissected word for word and ripped apart note by note, we‘re expected to be on point all-the-time … and when we aren’t, we are scandalized. A true artist is vulnerable but the crowd is most often plagued with vultures who pick at every single move you make. It’s a slippery slope when music means the world to us but how quickly praise turns into prosecution… We are all Kings and Queens for a day but most of the time it feels like a Kafka novel for a lifetime. It‘s exciting but surreal and absurd at the same time.” [via Revolver]

LEAGUE OF DISTORTION have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Crucify Me’, is taken from the German modern metal band’s new album, Galvanize, which is out now via Napalm Records. Speaking about the new song, the band shares, “’Crucify Me’ deals with the rise of artificial intelligence, written from the perspective of an AI that has outgrown its creators. It reflects humanity’s helplessness and inevitable inferiority in the face of this rapidly evolving force. The song is a bold statement on a pressing issue, exploring the unsettling realization that what we create might one day surpass and dominate us or maybe it has already.” [via Distorted Sound]

Melodic extreme-metal band Vintersea has revealed their first single, ‘Celestial Abscission,’ with newly announced singer Kayla Dixon (Witch Mountain, Dress The Dead). The fiery new track ushers in a new chapter for the band as they continue their quest of global domination. Commenting on the new single Dixon says: “Abscission means to detach. Romain Rolland, in his letter to good friend Sigmund Freud, described a new discovery of his via his recent meditations-‘A feeling as of something limitless, unbounded, as it were-oceanic’. This quote felt perfect to include as in interlude before the song kicks in hard. The purpose of this song is to bring the topic of spiritual narcissism up for discussion. Recurring themes of ego and ego death (or abscission) have been ever present in my life. My aim with these lyrics is to expose and discuss the misuse of the word “ego” and to shed light on how easily this word can be thrown around and used to infiltrate the minds of the already humble, stripping away what little self-esteem they had left. Does carrying an oceanic feeling of detachment from day to day life and an awareness of our ultimate mortality advance us as individuals and as a society at large? Or is this one cause of the apathy we see in the world? …and what does your ego-self have to say about it?” [via Brave New Words]

Floridian melodic metalcore band Not Enough Space have signed with Thriller Records. The below music video for their newest single ‘Primitive’ is the first offering via this new partnership, with the band commenting: “We are excited to announce that we are dropping our newest single ‘Primitive’! We have worked so hard on this song and hope that you all enjoy it! This is our first single in a year and we have a lot of amazing things coming behind the scenes that we can’t wait to share with you!! Thank you all so much for the love and support!! See you soon!!” Co-vocalist Lizzie Raatma added: “‘Primitive‘ is about feeling trapped in a toxic relationship with a significant other. Both parties feel that they cannot leave because they’re holding onto memories and their false sense of hope that maybe one day things will get better.” [via the PRP]

ENTHEOS have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Return To Me’, is taken from the American progressive death metal band’s new EP, An End To Everything, which was released on Friday, via Metal Blade Records. Speaking about the new song, vocalist Chaney Crabb says, “lyrically,’Return To Me’ is a song about the anxiety of watching someone that you love throw their life away while also gaining the perspective that no matter how our lives are lived, we will all inevitably face death. Musically, the simple melodic idea in the intro is what spawned this entire song. We really wanted this song to have a dark, almost black metal vibe while still maintaining our own heavy and progressive spin.” [via Distorted Sound]

ENEMY INSIDE have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Fuck That Party’, is the brand new single from the German alternative/symphonic metal band and follows on from their previous single, ‘Should Have Known Better’, which was released last month. The new single was once again mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek of ANNISOKAY (Sawdust Recordings) and its accompanying music video was produced by the group’s loyal companion Jonas Sommer. It’s based on a concept and story written by creative frontwoman Nastassja Giulia, and takes fans to the band’s own chamber of horrors. Speaking about the new song and its accompanying music video, the band shares, “’Fuck That Party’ featuring Zak Tell from CLAWFINGER brings nu and modern metal together. The Halloween themed party song comes with a fun video but a deep meaning. It’s about growing old and looking back nostalgically at the times gone by. It’s a reminder that life is short, so enjoy every moment of your life no matter what others think and fill it with things that make you happy!” [via Distorted Sound]

RedHook have given fans another glimpse of their upcoming new album with the snarling ‘Bomb.com’. With Mutation set for release on November 22, the track arrives ahead of their swiftly approaching UK dates with Dream State. Speaking on ‘Bomb.com’, vocalist Emmy Mack has shared: “‘Bomb.com’ is basically just a big fun diss track about an egomaniacal dude in the music industry who likes to talk a lot of shit, particularly about female-fronted bands. Lame AF behaviour that we felt compelled to take the living piss out of. Craig also added these really sick synths for extra hype that were inspired by that song ‘Like A G6’. This one’s gonna be so much fun to play live!” [via Rock Sound]

Finnish band Memoremains drop a new song on the airwaves. The five-piece has already released the singles ‘Toxic Girl’ and ‘Stuck’ earlier this year, but the recently released ‘Fighter’ is a bit different. “Compared to previous singles, ‘Fighter’ is a bit deeper and more atmospheric. As for the vocals, we also searched for new sounds to emphasize the nuances of the composition. In the lyrics, I wanted to deal with friendship and a situation where a loved one is in a challenging place in their life and needs support in making difficult choices. If only the song would bring a touch of hope to the gloom of autumn for the listeners as well !” singer Johanna Ahonen states. The song was also made into a music video with the help of a well-known author. “Aarni Visuals made a music video for us from our 2022 Nummirock show recording for the single ‘Empire’ from the album Pop Metal, and we remembered how efficient he worked and how good the result was. We asked him about his interest in making the music video for ‘Fighter’, and luckily he agreed to cooperate. In our opinion, the musicvideo conveys the new visual look of the band and the atmosphere of the song, which is sensitive and dramatic at the same time.” [via The Offering Webzine]

Rising phenom Amira Elfeky has a gravely booming nu-gaze single to get us through the spooky season. Filled with a mix of goth-romantic bleakness, detuned guitar melancholy and heavy existential dread, her latest track is fittingly titled ‘Will You Love Me When I’m Dead.’ The single marks Elfeky’s first release since last June’s ‘Remains of Us’ collaboration with Scarlet House. This time around, the Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter teamed-up with producers/musicians Zakk Cervini and Andrew Goldstein to drill into this dark-edged, but dreamy piece. ‘Will You Love Me When I’m Dead’ bounces between a driving, early Deftones-like groove, some lightly twitching electronica, and a gravesite disturbing breakdown finale. Lyrically, Elfeky whispers and soars through emotions-draining relationship drama (“You tasted like honey / So sweet when you stung me”), the frustration of putting in more than you’re getting back (“Every bone I break for you…will never be enough”) and more.
The new year introduced a new era for RinRin, and ‘FCKNRUN’ is the third offering in the new narrative, and the third in a string of fantasy-fuelled releases. Previous singles ‘im sad lol’ and ‘PRN’ explored the dystopian and fictional story of Rin, based on real life – a multiverse where ‘variants’ of RinRin reside in alternate worlds, leading different lives that reflect true feelings. The latest offering, ‘FCKNRUN,’ represents a version of RinRin that sees her take on the role of serial casanova, where attachment is her greatest enemy. The song oozes confidence, traversing through self assured verses with driving undertones before a vulnerable and emotive outro pairs lyrically with traces of guilt. [via Heavy]

Naarm/Melbourne’s The Last Martyr have just dropped EP Requiem, packed with soaring, soul-stirring metal. Mixed by Chris Lalic (Windwaker, Days Like These), it’s an explosive collection, an apocalyptic exploration of what happens when we disrespect and disregard Mother Nature. Frontwoman Monica Strut explains: “The Requiem EP is about the human species’ journey towards, throughout and after the apocalypse. It touches on themes of denial, destruction, control, fear, love and more. Each song stands alone with its own story but is brought together by this overarching theme.” ‘Critical Mass’ is described by Strut as the crossroads before the end of the world. Listen below.
Rockshots Records and Lay Of The Autumn are excited to announce the release of their second single, ‘Flowing Tears’ from their highly anticipated album Of Love And Sorrow due out on October 25. Lay Of The Autumn is a new Symphonic Power Metal band led by Davide Scuteri (Ravenword, Choirs Of Veritas) featuring Iryna Boyarkina (ERIA, Mysterya), Michele Olmi (Chronosfear, Embrace Of Souls), Cesare Ferrari and Davide Lovecchio. Their debut album, featuring 10 emotionally charged tracks, merges the intensity of Power Metal with the grandeur of Symphonic Metal creating a deeply evocative listening experience. ‘Flowing Tears’ is a standout piece that encapsulates the full spectrum of the band’s sound, blending sorrow with beauty in a way that is uniquely Lay Of The Autumn.

Two years since the release of their last studio album Black & Gold, the Swedish quartet Thundermother reveal the first details surrounding their upcoming new studio album titled, Dirty & Divine. It is slated for release on February 7, 2025 via AFM Records. A blistering onslaught of loud, proud and gritty hard rock, Dirty & Divine marks the start of a new era for Thundermother. This album showcases the Thundermother recording debut for both frontwoman Linnea Vikström Egg and for drummer Joan Massing. Dirty & Divine also welcomes bassist Majsan Lindberg back into the fold. Bigger, bolder and more dynamic than ever before, the Swedes return as an upgraded and remotivated force! Now the rock goddesses unleash a new music video for their latest single, the anthemic album opener: ‘So Close.’ Guitarist and founding member Filippa Nässil reveals: “‘So Close’ was so close to not being included on the album. But when we recorded it live in the studio after all the other songs were done, it turned out so well that it made it across the finish line. It seems we might have stumbled upon a hit.”

Delain have just released a new single and video, ‘Dance With The Devil,’ following last year’s Dark Waters album. The song is the title-track from an upcoming EP – due out on November 8 via Napalm – which also includes two more new songs, two ‘newly-presented favourites’ with their latest band line-up, nine live tracks and two instrumentals. “We’re thrilled to have brand new material ready to be released!” enthuses Martijn Westerholt. “In addition to the new songs, it was fantastic to have captured some magical live moments of our European tour earlier this year as live tracks for the EP. We’re definitely very excited for this release and are really looking forward to bringing the new music to the stage!” Martijn also shares of their newest single: “We’re really excited and eager to share this new Delain song with the world. It captures the recognisable and signature sound of Delain but with a fresh and modern touch.” [via Kerrang!]

ENTHEOS have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘A Thousand Days,’ is taken from the American progressive death metal band’s upcoming new EP, An End To Everything, which is scheduled to be released in October this year, via Metal Blade Records. Speaking about the new single, vocalist Chaney Crabb says, “lyrically, ‘A Thousand Days’ is a song about feeling as if you‘re on the edge of life and death. In writing ‘A Thousand Days’, we wanted to focus on a more ‘mellow’ death metal vibe and simultaneously incorporate some elements of grunge and pitched screaming in the chorus.” [via Distorted Sound]

Beyond the Pale, the death/thrash metal outfit from the Netherlands with a pinch of black, and brimmed with soul-purging riffs, is unstoppable. The band just dropped a new music video, this time filled with feisty pirates for the track ‘Walk the Plank’. Following ‘The Age of the Pariah,’ ‘Storm en Drift’ and the remix for ‘Facts and Figures’ by acclaimed Japanese musician Frost (Gods of Decay; Godfrost), ‘Walk the Plank’ is the fourth single released by Beyond The Pale from their debut EP Monument in Time. ‘Walk the Plank’ depicts a narrative of rebellion and resistance against a corrupt and oppressive authority, particularly targeting women. The lyrics describe the struggles of those trapped in a system dominated by unfair and unjust individuals. ‘Walk the Plank’ is a powerful call for resistance and (female) empowerment, with individuals standing up to their oppressors. The pirates symbolize their fighting spirit and determination to reclaim control of their own destiny. [via Click Roll Boom]

After teasing the single for a little while now, Hot Milk have just shared their vulnerable, standalone new song and video, ‘Where Does The Light Get In?’. The track is the band’s first new music since last year’s A CALL TO THE VOID, with Han Mee describing it as “its own beast that came from a place of great torment and suffering. Matters of the heart are rarely touched by our band but after the last year put me into a place I never wish to return I couldn’t not write this song. It was a necessity.” “Sadness doesn’t last forever, but when it consumes you it feels like it’s there for eternity,” adds Jim Shaw. “Essentially this song is a cry out for a change in circumstances. It’s hard seeing someone close to you in pain and feeling powerless to change it. I wanted to exacerbate the vulnerability of this song so I began as stripped back as I could, me and a piano, and played what you can hear as soon as the song starts. We wanted the lyrics to come across almost like a prayer so we brought in the girls in Espera to record a choir and act as the response in the chorus.” [via Kerrang!]

Following some online teasing, Spiritbox have just shared their first new music of 2024 Entitled ‘Soft Spine,’ this genuinely crushing new track from the Canadian metalcore crew follows last year’s The Fear Of Fear EP – and is potentially a very exciting hint at their long-awaited second album… Who knows?
Memoremains releases new music. In the spring, the single ‘Toxic Girl’ opened a new era for Memoremains which continues now with a new release, the tight pop metal song ‘Stuck’. “The song, as its name suggests, is about being stuck. Society offers us a lot of expectations about how and in what order things should be done in life, but they don’t always feel like our own or essential. While others are moving forward in their lives, it may sometimes feel like they themselves are stuck. I hope the song provides peer support for those who are frustrated by the expectations of others and to act as an encouragement to make their own choices,” says Johanna Ahonen.

Wargasm have unleashed the new single ‘70% Dead’ featuring Slipknot singer Corey Taylor. It’s the latest high-profile collab for the UK electro-punk duo, who have released past tracks with Fred Durst, Bad Omens, and Ho99o9, among others. Last year, Wargasm — comprised of Milkie Way and Sam Matlock — supported Taylor on his US solo tour, leading to the collaboration on ‘70% Dead.’ “We were on the road in the USA with Corey,” stated Wargasm. “Sam ended up jumping on a mic with him during his set and we just felt like the voices sounded right together. It totally made sense to do something fresh with the three of us and well… you don’t ask, you don’t get.” The duo continued, “Some OG fans might recognize the lyrics. This has been a long time coming. ‘70% Dead’ is a cry-out at a world gone mad; war, disease, inequality. It feels like something is brewing.” In a social media tease earlier this week, Wargasm posted a phone conversation between Way and Matlock, in which Matlock complains that the band hasn’t released any new music this year thus far. Way tells Matlock, “Why don’t you call that guy you really like, the shouty guy?” The shouty guy, aka Taylor, contributes his instantly recognizable guttural vocals to the uptempo track, blending flawlessly with the clean singing of the two Wargasm members. [via Consequence]

Living Dead Girl — the pop-metal project helmed by powerhouse vocalist-bandleader Molly Rennick — are about to kick off a big North American tour, and on the eve of the first date, they teamed with Revolver to premiere the new video for their biting March single ‘Ugly.’ Rennick previously described Living Dead Girl as representing the two sides of her split personality — “one wears baby pink and Hello Kitty and listens to pop music, and the other a goth girl in fishnet stockings” — and the ‘Ugly’ video follows suit. It’s at once silly and violent, cutesy and incisive, delivering its social commentary in a fun, splatstick package. “‘Ugly’ is a song I wrote from a place of frustration, knowing many fellow women could relate,” Rennick tells Revolver. “It’s about wanting to be taken seriously for your contributions and skills without being objectified or undermined in any profession or passion. When it came to making a music video, we wanted to bring that idea to life, but in true Living Dead Girl form, it still needed to have an element of fun and humor. Even with a serious message, we still are a band that likes to have fun in everything we do. I paid some subtle homage to The Powerpuff Girls and their message of girl power and empowerment, while playing into the aesthetic of a campy horror movie. All while tying it into a gym setting: the place in which every woman just wants to be left alone!” [via Revolver]

New England extreme-metal faction Escuela Grind have officially confirmed a full-length is likewise hitting us later this fall. The band’s Dreams on Algorithms is due out October 18, but they’re previewing it ahead of time with a fittingly disorienting single called ‘Turbulence.’ ‘Turbulence’ shakes things up a bit for Escuela Grind, marking the first time Economou has brought clean singing into the band’s discography. Then again, after a brief bit of Alice in Chains-esque doom-grungin’, the song incorporates a more shrieked and grind-blitzed pace. “It will be immediately obvious when you first hear this song that it is a departure for us,” the vocalist added. “We wanted to take a risk with ‘Turbulence,’ and after performing so many live shows over the last year we were ready to compile all that influence. The clean singing may take some people off-guard coming from a grind/hardcore band, but after touring with Napalm Death, we realized we wanted to incorporate that aspect into our music in a similar way. We definitely wanted a grungy, catchy chorus to sing at all of our upcoming festival appearances, and I hope the fans like the song as much as we do.” [via Revolver]

Astonishing singer-songwriter CHARLOTTE WESSELS (ex-DELAIN) has joined forces with Simone Simons of Epica for her mesmerizing new single entitled ‘Dopamine.’ This track is part of Wessels’ first traditional full-length, full-band solo album, The Obsession, set to be released on September 20 via Napalm Records. Promising a deeply immersive and evocative experience, the two Dutch symphonic metal legends guide listeners through the emotional landscape of SSRI-induced numbness. The Obsession showcases WESSELS’ most mature work to date, blending progressive and heavier soundscapes with catchy elements. CHARLOTTE WESSELS on ‘Dopamine’: “Lyrically, ´Dopamine´ deals with SSRI induced numbness that I experienced a few years ago when I was on Sertraline, a type of antidepressant. While the medication was really helpful, there were so many side effects that I’d never heard of. This song deals with some of them, and while it feels vulnerable to expose the experience, I hope it helps in breaking down the shame and taboo around the topic. Simone reached out to me as I was first opening up about this in an interview, and when the first version of ´Dopamine´ dropped on Patreon (because of course we’re each other’s patrons) she texted how much she liked the song. So when we were working on the album version it only made sense to ask if she’d sing along on the track. I am so happy she agreed and after all of the shared introspection, it was great fun to let loose wearing pink wigs in ball pits and marshmallow pools for the video recordings. Musically, out of the entire new album, ´Dopamine´ went through the biggest transformation. What started out as an EDM demo for a collaboration with a dance duo that never happened, became an acoustic Song Of The Month on Patreon, which then had a massive overhaul when rearranging it with Timo. The new band version is an absolute banger, and the beautiful guest vocals by Simone complete the song.” [via Outburn]

ENEMY INSIDE have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘What We Used To Be’, is the brand new single from the German alternative/symphonic metal band and marks their first new music since 2021’s Seven. Speaking about the new song, vocalist Nastassja Giulia says, “’What We Used To Be’ deals with the topic of a relationship growing apart: whether it’s a romantic relationship, a friendship, or the relationship with yourself. It’s about realising and accepting that situations and people, even yourself, change, and there is no other way than to move on.” Filmed by Jonas Sommer, the music video’s script and story was written by the front-woman herself. She adds, “we were aiming for a cinematic look. We wanted a video that looked more like a movie than a music video and we are really proud how the song and the video turned out.” [via Distorted Sound]

Without Warning, a promising modern metal act from Finland has unleashed their new single ‘Pulse’ with an additional music video. The new single is infused with inspiration from the German underground rave scene, immersing the listener with a sonic landscape filled with industrial sounds and heavy rave elements. ‘Pulse’ vibrates with intensity and infectious rhythms that are a core element in the German rave scenes. The song blends the ferocity of modern metal with the hypnotic allure of underground rave culture. Without Warning invites listeners to immerse themselves in a world where man and machine collide. “The song instantly made me think of an underground rave. An experience where you fully emerge yourself in the rhythm and it becomes synchronized with your pulse, which inspired the song name. With each song we really drive into the surrounding, the emotion and story. ‘Pulse’ showcases Without Warning as a whole, who we are and what our identity is about. It is no coincidence that we wanted to include inspiration from Germany particularly. Germans have a really talented and amazing metal scene, and they have always supported Finnish metal. We’re excited to build a stronger bond with them.” Says vocalist Michaela “Micha” Tuomenoksa. At its core, ‘Pulse’ explores the enigmatic relationship between humanity and technology. Reflecting the interesting and futuristic lore Without Warning has created. ‘Pulse’ is blurring the boundaries between organic and artificial life. With the song, Without Warning aims to capture the essence of the rave experience with a cacophony of sound and intense emotion. “I had a vision about a techno infused song with an intense beat, electronic soundscape and of course a signature touch representing our style. A lot of things happen through the song and it took a while to find the balance. But with efficient teamwork among the band we produced the song as visioned and hope to see ‘Pulse’ make a strong impact on listeners.” Says guitarist and producer Juuso Javanainen.
Runner up in Ireland’s Eurosong National Final in January for Eurovision 2024 with her previous hit single ‘Go Tobann’ , AILSHA is back with her heaviest track to date, ‘Haunted’. “‘Haunted’ is a journey through the emotions of realizing someone you deeply trusted was actually sucking the life out of you,” she explains. “It’s like waking up in this twisted vampire movie where they’ve been sucking your energy all along, and they took your empathy to bury in their never-ending cemetery of lies. The song is about breaking free and reclaiming your worth. I also listened to fans who wanted me to include the Irish language in some songs going forward so in the heavy breakdowns in this track I scream ‘díbrim thú’, which means ‘I banish you’, symbolising breaking away from the hold this person had over you. ‘Haunted’ is basically my anthem for anyone who’s been through that soul-sucking realization- and for anyone who needs it.”

Kittie have unveiled the new song and video ‘One Foot in the Grave,’ the latest single from their forthcoming comeback album, Fire, arriving June 21. Unlike the previous, more groove/thrash-oriented singles, ‘One Foot in the Grave’ harkens back to Kittie’s origins during the peak of the nu-metal movement. The glossy vocal production is theatrical and very early 2000s, while the deliberate slam-chords and pop-punkish tempo change are characteristic of Kittie’s early material. Given those subtle anachronisms, it’s slightly ironic that the song is actually about “letting go of the demons of the past to begin anew,” according to singer-guitarist Morgan Lander. “The excitement is palpable in anticipation of our forthcoming album release, with the unleashing of our latest offering ‘One Foot in the Grave,’” hyped Lander in the press release. “It’s a feisty, high-energy song about coming back from the dead and rising from the ashes so to speak, paralleling our real life experiences as of late.” [via Consequence]

The new line-up of Finnish-Ecuadorean melodic heavy metal band BLACK SUN shares ‘Drown In Sin’ the second single from their forthcoming self-titled album. Fronted by the formidable Netta Laurenne, Black Sun is completed by founding members Nicolas Estrada (drums), Christopher Grünberg (guitar), and Santiago Salem (bass) as well as the band’s producer, Thunderstone guitarist Nino Laurenne. As a result, Ecuador and Finland are now bonded and represented by a band that is one of a kind. With this new lineup, Black Sun entered the studio to record a full-length album, which was recorded at Hi Noiz Studio and Sonic Pump Studios, produced and mixed by Nino Laurenne, and mastered by Svante Forsback (Rammstein, Apocalyptica, Volbeat, Amaranthe). About the track, Netta shares: “‘Drown In Sin’ is a song about the decay and malice of the human race. As the narrator, Karma adds an interesting twist, promising eventual justice for everyone by stating, ‘I will wipe them all out’.” [via Brave Words]

Progressive death metal duo, Entheos, unleashes their latest single, ‘Life In Slow Motion’. The track, and accompanying video, follows the band’s crushing ‘An End To Everything’ single released last month and serves as a precursor to the music to come later this year. Elaborates vocalist Chaney Crabb, “‘Life In Slow Motion’ is a song about seeing life through the eyes of drug addiction and the ways that it affects not only the addict, but the people who surround them. It’s about wanting to return to a moment in life where the addiction took over and pondering what could have happened if things went another direction. Musically, this is one of the heaviest and fastest songs that we’ve written. We wanted the music to make listeners feel the tension that builds in the track, which ultimately is released with one of our heaviest breakdowns.” [via Brave Words]

Death & Legacy returns with this stunning new video for their single ‘The Devourer Of Light.’ This is the first glimpse of their upcoming album, with more details to be revealed soon. ‘The Devourer of Light’ kicks off with a classic rhythm with its synthesizer introduction and infectious beat. The song’s melody is undeniably catchy, driven by harmonized guitar riffs that complement each other seamlessly. This melodic charm is sharply contrasted by the raw, intense vocals of the band’s lead singer, Hynphernia, whose powerful voice adds a distinctive edge to the track. The accompanying music video has a high production quality and it predominantly features Hynphernia but with glimpses of the other band members. The interplay of blue and red lights and the camera’s movement creates a striking visual contrast that mirrors the band’s and Hynphernia’s compelling presence.
Almost a year after its release, the fourth studio album by Swedish symphonic dark metal sensation Eleine, We Shall Remain, is still on everyone’s lips. Now, the indefatigable five-piece unveil the official video for the track ‘Suffering’ which incorporates huge melodies, crushing riffs, an insane vocal range and orchestral grandeur. Vocalist Madeleine Liljestam and guitarist/vocalist Rikard Ekberg explain the profound meaning of the song, “Life is never easy and sometimes it forces you to push forward even when you see no reason to. Your own mind is beating you down and tearing you apart, repeating the past that leaves you in an endless loop of hopelessness and pain. But… you don’t give up. You start facing your fears which leaves you torn between staying in a place you know but is destroying you or go towards something unexplored that may or may not give you strength. Eventually you reach a point where you see your old self from the other side. That’s when you know you survived.” [via Brave Words]

Symphonic metal band ANA just released a new album entitled The Art of Letting Go via Eclipse Records on March 29, and now; the band dropped their third music video from the album entitled ‘Scars’. The music video was directed by Peter Coulson, whose work has been published as covers and editorials in magazines worldwide, winning multiple prestigious awards including AIPP Australian Photographer of the Year, and AIPP Fashion Photographer of the Year 3 times. “We had a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with the amazing Peter Coulson” says lead vocalist Anna Khristenko. “We needed one more music video and he happened to have some time between his busy schedule, which was truly a blessing. I have worked with Peter many times before, so we have developed very good chemistry and strong trust between us. On the other hand, it may have been a bit of a learning curve for my band, as Peter’s methods can be unorthodox. He was truly like no other director they’d ever worked with. Even though the subject matter may weigh heavy on the heart, the video is stunningly beautiful. The video was shot in black and white to represent the past. The effect of a black and white video also means that your eyes are not distracted by colors and makes you focus more on the performance and emotions. The message I want to bring across is that even in pain there is beauty to be found.” Director Peter Coulson adds, “I just push buttons and allowed Anna and the band to do the rest.”

Following the announcement of her long-awaited debut album THIS IS DOOM TRAP (out on September 26 via Silent Cult), Mimi Barks, has unveiled her brand-new single ‘BANSHEE’, furthermore demonstrating to fans another insight into what they can expect from the upcoming album. ‘BANSHEE’, sees the doom trap pioneer produce her most honest work to date as she allows listeners to delve further into her dark world. Sonically, it showcases a whole new side to Mimi Barks as the track resonates it’s vulnerable nature.

Reunited Canadian metal outfit Kittie have dropped the new song ‘We Are Shadows,’ their second single since returning from hiatus. The rhythms and staccato riffs are airtight and unrelenting, and frontwoman Morgan Lander takes a more melodic route vocally on this track, calling back to Kittie’s nu-metal heyday. “‘We Are Shadows’ is about the uncertainty of a future that we can no longer control,” Lander explained in a press release. “We have come to a critical place in life and in our world, and much like an eclipse overtaking the sun, we are losing the light.” She continued: “The image of shadows slowly fading in the evening darkness, and the analogy of ‘us’ as shadows in the night really illustrates the possibility of slowly fading into oblivion. It is not a song of hope however, it’s a song of coming to terms with the damage we do and acceptance of our fate. We’ve let darkness take hold, and so we are resolved to fade in the night with it.” [via Consequence]

Entheos is back with a new single ‘An End To Everything’ just over one year after their 2023 album Time Will Take Us All. The single comes alongside a music video directed by Malcolm Pugh, and riffs that will twist your brain in new and interesting ways. “‘An End To Everything’ is lyrically about surrendering yourself or giving in to a sense of darkness and despair that you feel is beyond your own control,” said Entheos vocalist Chaney Crabb. “Musically, the first riff of the song came organically, and the rest of the song wrote itself after. We wanted the song to provoke a feeling of melancholy, with lyrics to match. It became a perfect combination of many of the styles of metal and rock that we aim to blend in our music.” [via Metal Injection]

Within Temptation proudly present their newest single ‘A Fool’s Parade’, featuring Ukrainian producer and vocalist Alex Yarmak. All royalties from the new single will be donated to Music Saves UA for the duration of the war. ‘A Fool’s Parade’ showcases the band’s commitment to raising awareness of Ukraine’s ongoing battle against Russia’s invasion. The song itself serves as a condemnation of Russia’s deceitful actions and sheds light on the harsh realities faced by Ukraine. Within Temptation remains steadfast in their support for Ukraine, with involvement in initiatives such as the Ukraine Aid OPS foundation, advocating for more much-needed solidarity.
Xeneris, the Italian powerhouse of symphonic power metal, is set to ignite the global metal scene with their debut album, Eternal Rising. slated for release on June 14. Prepare to be hypnotized by their first single and video, ‘Eternal Rising’, a mesmerizing tale of resurrection and resilience, narrated through the myth of the phoenix’s rebirth. This song embodies the determination to move forward in life challenges, echoing the phoenix’s immortal cycle of death and rebirth. A video for the song can be found below. Mastermind Federico Paolini states: “‘Eternal Rising’ tells a story of resurrection and resilience narrated through the myth of the phoenix’s rebirth: every 500 years, the phoenix dies and rises from its ashes, thus ensuring immortality through this purifying ritual. For us, it’s a concept very representative of our musical journey that is reborn and continues, representing also the will to continue our path with renewed passion.” [via Brave Words]

Giant Walker have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Make Me’, is the brand new single from the Newcastle-based heavy progressive band and marks their first new music since their last album, All In Good Time, which was released back in May 2022. The new song was produced by Chris Coulter (Arcane Roots, Jamie Lenman) and gives the first glimpse into their as-of-yet unannounced second album, which is anticipated to be released later this year via Church Road Records. Speaking about the new song, vocalist Steff Fish says, “the song is about witnessing someone that you care about making terrible decisions and the reality of your own helplessness knowing that nothing you say will influence their judgement as they can’t or won’t acknowledge that their own actions are perpetuating the problem. So, it becomes an endless cycle of delusion and bitterness.” [via Ghost Cult Mag]

Rising modern symphonic metal stars, Ad Infinitum, are breaking in with their mesmerizing new single, ‘Seth’, exceeding all expectations and heating up the excitement for their electrifying new studio album, Chapter III – Downfall, out March 31 via Napalm Records, once more. The new hit ‘Seth’ creates a heavy presence with distorted guitars crushing a groovy riff, charging into a captivating chorus with Melissa Bonny at lead singing a beautifully triumphant melody. This song’s resounding modern sound and eerie ambience will have new fans turning heads, all emphasized by an accompanying bombastic video. Says the band: “Today we unveil one more piece of our upcoming album Chapter III – Downfall. A song about Seth, the god of chaos and destruction, about jealousy, ambition, betrayal, treason and illusions. And eventually about justice and resolution. All this served with heavy riffs and a beautiful video by Vincent De Fallois. Enjoy!” [via Brave Words]

BABYMETAL have shared the new single ‘Metal Kingdom’ from their forthcoming concept album THE OTHER ONE, out March 24. Each of the albums 10 tracks represent a theme based on “10 separate parallel worlds” discovered in “THE OTHER ONE restoration project,” during which BABYMETAL were “recovered within the virtual ‘METALVERSE.’” As the third single we’ve heard from the album, ‘Metal Kingdom’ sheds further light on this complex narrative. “One of the discovered 10 parallel worlds is THRONE and this 3rd single centers around this theme,” the band’s press release elaborates. “It is a powerful anthem ushering in the beginning of a new era while also representing the power and courage to step forward into uncharted territory. The track conveys imagery of one rising powerfully from the throne of silence, with a suitable fanfare announcing this new beginning.” It reads like the plot to a sci-fi movie or video game, and “Metal Kingdom’ has a particularly cinematic quality to it, in that the song sounds like a film score with its soaring arrangement, rich sonic production, and cathartic vocals from the BABYMETAL duo.
Daedric is starting off 2023 with a bang, reuniting with acclaimed producer Joey Sturgis to drop a brutal alt-metal single ‘Alchemy.’ Savage from the get-go ‘Alchemy’ wastes no time jumping in with industrial guitars laced over a ferocious but captivating vocal performance from frontwoman Kristyn Hope. Mixing screams with atmospheric vocals The single performs a delicate dance between ethereal and ominous, delicate and harsh. Drawing from a wide variety of genres including metalcore, electronic and industrial ‘Alchemy’ establishes Daedric’s incredible versatility. “The team was excited to experiment with more screams and gritty vocals on ‘Alchemy,’” explains Daedric. “We really tested some vocal limits and that gave us some great moments during production.” [via Outburn]

Entheos, the duo of vocalist Chaney Crabb and multi-instrumentalist Navene Koperweis, has finally announces their new record Time Will Take Us All for March 3. The album features ex-Entheos bassist Evan Brewer, who hasn’t rejoined the band but did contribute a boatload of killer low end. The band is now streaming the sludgy new single ‘I Am The Void’ alongside a music video done up by the seemingly ever-present My Good Eye Visuals. [via Metal Injection]

San Francisco doom vets, Acid King, are returning later this year with their first full-length since 2015. Titled Beyond Vision, the band helmed by low-and-slow maestro, Lori S., are billing the new LP as their most psychedelic yet, and judging by the sound of its expansive lead single, ‘Destination Psych/Beyond Vision’ fans are in for a helluva trip with this collection. The near-eight-minute single taps into the hazy, muffled churn that they helped pioneer throughout the Nineties, but there’s an added dose of trippiness in the way the specter-like vocals float in the mix, and the dual guitar/bass solo that closes out the tune is more bluesy than bashing. “The band was never really that psychedelic, but this is definitely more trippy because we’ve got keyboards and synthesizers,” Lori said of the new record’s sound. “That’s something we’ve never had before on Acid King records. The songs really have no beginning or ending—they all just flow into each other. It’s meant to be listened to as one piece. The whole point was to have the listener feel like they’re on a journey. If you put headphones on, it’ll take you to whatever places you’d like to go to.” [via Revolver]

Now, they release a video for the song ‘Dancing In The Dark’. Jennifer Haben comments: “‘Dancing In The Dark’ is about taking the choice to not give in when it‘s getting tough, and to fight for yourself! The song shows yet another musical dimension of the upcoming album and comes with memories of an amazing European tour, where it became a fan favorite!“ [via Brave Words]

Setting off into a new era, metal greats Delain recently returned with a new lineup, impressively proving that they are stronger than any machine with their standalone single ‘The Quest and The Curse’. Fuelled by massive support and enthusiasm all around the globe, the multi-million streaming leading outfit now finally sets the stage for their eagerly awaited next studio album, entitled Dark Waters, out February 10 via Napalm Records. The tracklist merges perfectly with the fantastic voice of new vocalist Diana Leah, showcasing her incredible talent and musical sophistication, which the brand new single ‘Beneath’ manifests. The vocal department holds new adventures with guest singer Paolo Ribaldini, who also highlights the track as the ultimate hymn. Along with a stunning music video, ‘Beneath’ takes the listener into a sinister underworld of the deep. Modern, synth melodies mix with catchy classical passages and ominous riffs throughout the song. Martijn Westerholt on ‘Beneath’: “’Beneath’ is a perfect ambassador of the album and Delain as a whole because it encapsulates almost all of the recognizable DELAIN elements you will find on the album.” [via Brave Words]

The experimental progressive death metal act Entheos have released a brand new single called ‘In Purgatory’ and a killer new video to go along with it. Entheos — which is currently vocalist Chaney Crabb and multi-instrumentalist Navene Koperweis — have always pushed boundaries with their music, taking inspiration from death metal, groove, grunge, jazz, and prog, just to list a few. They stripped down to a two-piece in 2020, allowing Koperweis and Crabb to explore whatever avenues they wish, and the proof lies in ‘In Purgatory.’ “‘In Purgatory’ is a direct extension of our last single ‘Absolute Zero,” says Koperweis. “Musically, the lead guitar and melodies that appear on the outro of ‘Absolute Zero’ became the seeds for ‘In Purgatory,’ and from there, the song wrote itself.” Crabb continued, saying that “Lyrically, it represents introspection and coming to terms with the person that you are at your very core. The video was shot and edited by the incredible David Brodsky and Allison Woest and their team at My Good Eye: Music Visuals.” [via Metal Injection]
