Manchester alt-rock outfit False Advertising release their new single ‘Acid Rain’ today, taken from their forthcoming album The Sorry Window, out May 1. The track arrives alongside a new music video and marks one of the band’s most immediate, pop-punk-leaning releases to date.

Following recent singles ‘Don’t Ask Me’ and ‘The Sorry Window’ (the album’s title track), ‘Acid Rain’ channels the urgency of mid-2000s pop-punk through the band’s alternative rock and grunge influenced edge. Written about the corrosive spiral of anxiety and the fight to move beyond it – with the music itself inspired by a dream Jen Hingley had about watching Fall Out Boy live – the track balances restless live energy with the band’s trademark honesty and bite.

“It’s not about sadness — it’s about feeling attacked by your own insecurity and fighting back,” she says.

Manchester alt-rock outfit False Advertising return with their eagerly anticipated new single ‘The Sorry Window’, out today.

The track follows from 2024’s ‘Don’t Ask Me’, and is a further taste of new material from a larger body of work to come from the band, following from the departure of previous member and drummer (Chris Warr), their 2021 standalone single ‘Personal Space’, and previous album Brainfreeze.

Marking an indie-pop tinted step in their grunge-influence alt-rock sound, ‘The Sorry Window’ (a song title referencing a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode) is upbeat on the surface but upon closer listening coloured by bittersweet nostalgia for missed chances and regret – resonating all the more at this time of year as the nights draw in and the feeling of summer has long faded. This notion is explored in the track’s music video, filmed by the band in in Anglesey with glimpses of them playing at 2000 Trees Festival (filmed by Gareth Bull), the video tells the story of a protagonist revisiting places from a happier time, with a sense of longing to find a resolution.

Manchester alt-rock trio False Advertising have released a new single, ‘Don’t Ask Me’.

The track marks the band’s return after their 2021 standalone single ‘Personal Space’ and is the first taste of a larger body of work to come. False Advertising have recently begun to re-engage with live performances, teasing new music at Manchester Punk Festival and Strangeforms earlier this year.

‘Don’t Ask Me’ emerged from frontwoman Jen Hingley‘s experimentation with electronic beats during lockdown, and arrives alongside a video, self-shot by the band, that features a lobster in a supermarket’s live tank. Animator Callum Scott-Dyson contributed stop-motion elements depicting the lobster’s life before capture.

Hingley explains the inspiration behind the clip: “After watching the episode of The Simpsons where Homer keeps a lobster as a pet, I always wondered what would happen if you actually did that. Although it’s difficult to know for sure, as obviously we didn’t want to cause any real harm to real lobsters when making the video…”
