British metalcore outfit DEFENCES have released a brand new single. The new music video, for the track ‘Lithium Kiss,’ is the brand new single from the Hertfordshire-based alternative metal band and marks their first new music since their latest studio album, Shadowlight, which was released in November last year, via Long Branch Records.

Speaking about the new song, the band shares, “the inspiration for ‘Lithium Kiss’ came from one of our members’ personal experience being prescribed the mood-stabiliser Lithium for a couple of years, and the frustrations and difficulties that came along with the benefits. When treatment stopped, rather than feeling like before, there was instead a feeling of being almost hyper-rational, rather than feeling like they could react instinctively and naturally.

“’Lithium Kiss’ is NOT about not taking your medication and taking care of yourself and we would never want it to come across that way. It’s instead a crystallization of a paranoia that we are consumed by illness and treatment, adversity and reconciliation. The Lithium Kiss is our way of referring to this relationship, the symbiotic necessity for difficulty to bring about individual growth, whilst ensuring that it does not come to consume you.”

FRAYLE have released a brand new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Boo’, is the final single lifted from the Cleveland-based doom metal band’s upcoming album Heretics & Lullabies, which is scheduled to be released on October 10 via Napalm Records. The track features a guest appearance from Jason Popson (ex-MUSHROOMHEAD) and arrives ahead of the band’s upcoming USA tour supporting occult rockers DOGMA.

Speaking about the new single, FRAYLE shares, “’Boo’ was inspired by an incident in Germany, when Gwyn, walking alone on a dark street, startled a woman traveling with her companions. She screamed, and the entire group hurried to the other side of the road. The song is a tongue-in-cheek response to moments like these – because for some of us, every day is Halloween.”

After the announcement of their signing with Art Gates Records in the summer, it has been confirmed that Italian Melodic Death Metal band 5Rand will release their long awaited third album Ordhalia on November 28 via the label. Letters Sent Home have released a brand new music video. The new track, titled ‘Focus,’ is the latest offering from the German alternative rock quartet and follows on from their previous single, ‘Bloom,’ which was released back in July. Speaking about the song, vocalist Emily Paschke explains, “we all know that one person who always seems to have it worse than everyone else – at least in their own eyes. Focus is about ending a friendship with that person because being around them has become too exhausting. And in this song, we’re not heartbroken or hurt. We’re annoyed, we’re furious, and yes – we’re petty. While our parts in the song perfectly portray that pettiness, THE NARRATOR is the perfect voice to channel and embody the anger.”

Battle Beast have released a brand new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Angel Of Midnight,’ is taken from the Finnish power metal band’s upcoming album, Steelbound, which is scheduled to be released in October this year, via Nuclear Blast Records.

Speaking about the new song, the band comment, “’Heretic’ explores the nature of heresy, spiritual struggle and the rejection of religious dogma. Evanescence’s Amy Lee has teamed up with Poppy and Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante on a new song titled ‘End of You.’ The track is accompanied by a cinematic music video.

The three artists had been teasing the single in the days leading up its release, and the payoff is an epic track that shines the spotlight on all three vocalists.

Lee gets the song started with the initial verses and the soaring chorus, giving off an Evanescence-meets-James-Bond-theme vibe. Poppy then sings the next set of verses in a clean voice, giving way to Lee again for the second chorus. Then it gets heavy as Poppy screams, “The end of you is the start of life for me,” leading to LaPlante’s explosive screams. The Spiritbox singer also shows off her clean singing, as all three vocalists come together at the end of the song.

‘Black Ocean’ is a beautiful nightmare with a futuristic groove drowning and pounding like thunderheads caught in a flood in a canyon. Here, the multi-layered growl vocal is emblematically effective, as the higher pitch is our fear and folly and the lower ones, our darkness and malice. “With the video for ‘Black Ocean’ we plunge into the abyss of our unconscious… into our shadow part, into a black-out of mental and emotional collapse.” Says vocalist Vivian Black. “The song speaks of the innermost desire to know that there can be someone to shake your hand to pull you out of this abyss, out of this black ocean. Italian symphonic metal band HYPERSONIC push their sound to new extremes with the release of their latest single ‘You Bastard’, featuring the devastating vocals of Francesco Paoli, frontman of extreme symphonic death metal titans Fleshgod Apocalypse.

Taken from the band’s acclaimed third album Kaosmogonia, ‘You Bastard’ is one of the heaviest and most emotionally charged tracks of the record. Musically, it delivers a relentless barrage of blast beats, crushing guitars, dramatic orchestration and male choir vocals recorded by the prestigious Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania (Italy). The song dives deep into themes of rage, justice, and despair, portraying a father’s fury and anguish over the violation of his child’s innocence.

BABYMETAL release their explosive new single ‘Kon! Kon’ featuring Bloodywood. This is the fifth single off their upcoming album METAL FORTH out on August 8 via Capitol Records. As postmodern society crumbles, Texas four-piece Die Spitz combine their passion, friendship, identity, and artistry to fight against the inescapable decay that surrounds life on their debut album, Something to Consume, due September 12 via Third Man Records. “There’s a political side to it, but addiction and love can also be all-consuming”, Ellie Livingston says. And as the band trade off instruments, swapping songwriting and vocal duties, and generating powerful songwriting in concussive bursts, Die Spitz have created their own little pocket of the world where we can all stand on the edge together.

The Austinites express their ideas through a blend of classic punk, hardcore, metal, alt rock and more. “’Throw Yourself to the Sword’ is a high energy ode to what we want young people to feel. There’s a lot of existentialism and despair in other songs on the album that still sheath the same theme, but Throw Yourself to the Sword is the raise of optimism. Despite living in a state of mundanity or hopelessness, you can still rise up and fight the unknown, as long as you’re willing to throw yourself to it,” Ellie Livingston explains.

Coming off the recent release of their self-titled vinyl EP, much-hyped Floridian quintet Not Enough Space are now set to deliver their first-ever full-length: Weaponize Your Rage. To help promote the LP, the band have unleashed an incendiary metalcore-to-pop-blurring cut called ‘New Age Cannibal.’

The song is described by the act as one of the “most cutthroat and experimental tracks on the album.” It begins with low and trappily pitch-shifted vocals, surges into djent-pressed guitar bombast, and then ultimately finds co-vocalists Lizzie Raatma and Liv Mitchell trading off on a series of lines about “tearing through the scene” and ripping ”your fucking spine out like a flesh filet.”

“With its dramatic flair and dark undertones, we used the setting of a post-apocalyptic vibe to express the metaphor that we know we are the young, new band, with every intention to make it to the top in a dog-eat-dog industry,” the band explained in a joint statement, adding of the song’s creation, “The creative process was especially unique, as we had the opportunity to collaborate with influential producer Cameron Mizell (Memphis May Fire, Avril Lavigne), whose influence helped elevate the track to an entirely new level.”

Brooklyn, NY-based Medieval Fantasy Doom Metal band Castle Rat (est. October 2019) share a brand new single, ‘Feed The Dream,’ the first in a series of new tracks set to come out in the next few months. ‘Feed The Dream’ was recorded in a 150-year-old abandoned church at a secret location in Philadelphia, PA. The single was produced and engineered by Davis M. Shubs (Grave Bathers) with Thomas Johnsen (Thantophobe). The mixing process was entrusted to the wise and wizardly hands of Rafferty Jennings Swink (Evolfo) in Brooklyn, NY, and mastered by JJ Golden of Golden Mastering in Ventura, CA. As Riley Pinkerton (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) wrote of their newest single: “‘Feed The Dream’ was written in isolation. It’s the longing for the closeness of a creature that does not exist in the physical realm. It’s the act of turning a fantasy over and over in one’s mind until its very existence becomes a lustrous pearl of questions that need not be answered.”

Former Alice Cooper and current Demi Lovato guitarist Nita Strauss has dropped brand new single and accompanying music video, ‘The Wolf You Feed’. The epic, headbanger of a track features huge, chunky, metallic riffs and the insane vocal talent of Alissa White-Gluz. Nita comments: “If you look back at old interviews from the last ten years, any time I was asked about collaborating with a vocalist in the future, Alissa White-Gluz was always the first name out of my mouth. She is truly one of my favorite vocalists and performers in the industry and creating this track together was everything I hoped it would be. I’m very proud to release this track, especially now with everything else that’s going on. This time in history, whether in politics, music, social media, or our personal lives, has been an eye-opening look into the two wolves of a lot of people out there, and maybe this song will be a reminder that we all have the ability to choose how we respond to things.” The lyrics of this song were inspired by The Story Of The Two Wolves, a legend widely attributed to Native American storytellers. An old grandfather was teaching his grandson about life: “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil — he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued: “The other is good — he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you–and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?” The grandfather simply replied: “The one you feed.” Alissa adds: “Nita and I finally got to collaborate — something we have both wanted to do for years! ‘The Wolf You Feed’ is a kickass, catchy metal track with a really cool vibe. I kept the ‘two wolves’ analogy as a foundation throughout the song while playing up the dichotomy of the two sides of the tug of war we all have inside us. Hard Rock band Eternal Frequency has released the final chapter of their “Matrix- esque” trilogy titled War. The perfect wrap up to their commanding, hard hitting story about a girl who is struggling to be who she wants to be while battling with what the world wants her to be. Will she become just someone that belongs on an assembly line or will she break free from the inner chains that bind and become who she is destined to be, free and basking in her own originality. Earlier this fall, Cleveland’s Frayle released their excellent second album, Skin & Sorrow, and to kick off November, the occult-doom band will be supporting the LP with shows over in Europe. Ahead of the tour, the group — led by enigmatic singer Gwyn Strang — teamed with Revolver to premiere the new music video for Skin & Sorrow standout ‘All The Things I Was.’ As is their way, it’s a bloody, skin-crawling affair perfect for the Halloween season. “This song is a reminiscence of the things I was and the regrets I had,” Strang tells Revolver. “The video shows how any rebirth or transformation can be painful and often times isn’t pretty or comfortable, but results in a more learned and wise self.” [via Revolver]

In 2020, metalcore outfit Conquer Divide resurfaced after an extended hiatus, and now the quintet have continued their second chapter with an emotional new single, ‘Paralyzed.’ As guitarist Kristen Sturgis explained, the song is about “battling with mental illness and depression — especially during the pandemic — and feeling like you are too mentally paralyzed to move forward.” Specifically, it was inspired by her harrowing experiences on the front lines as a critical care nurse. ‘Paralyzed’ arrived along with a dark, twisted music video that brings to life the inner struggles addressed in the song. “I was in a dark place because, as some people may or may not know, I am a critical care nurse when I am not touring,” Sturgis commented. “I was traveling around the country to all these hot spots to help out with COVID, and I saw dozens of people lose their lives. And I still really have not fully processed it.” She added, “But if you do not disconnect, you can’t do your job effectively. So, it is the kind of depression where you don’t feel anything at all, and you turn your emotions off. There was a point where they had psychologists visiting us on the unit to talk about our feelings. But it was like, ‘I don’t have time for this right now. I need to hang the next bag of x/y/z medication and keep this person alive. Get back to me in a year after this is all over.’ I think a lot of health care workers are also going to have PTSD or depression from what we went through. I hit a bit of writer’s block as a result of my mental state, and this song was a bit cathartic for me.” [via Revolver]
