Monaleo is prepping for her new project. Throwing Bows might be the most spot-on title for a Monaleo project. Her rap style and bars exhibit similar actions that you would see in a boxing ring. Ironically, the cover for the aforementioned tape displays exactly that as she’s knocked out a man cold. Even crazier, is that Monaleo and Kaliii sound like they want to throw down with some toxic men for their girlfriends on their new single ‘Flush Em’. This track comes just a week ahead of Throwing Bows, which will be her second LP of her still bubbling career. ‘Flush Em’, which features production from Bankroll Got It, is the third offering, as it comes after ‘Passenger Princess’ and ‘Don Who Leo’. In tandem with the release of Where The Flowers Don’t Die, Monaleo dropped the video for one of the project’s standout tracks, ‘Wig Splitter.’ In the video, she is seen streaming live on Instagram, in the fashion of a “get ready with me” type video. Praise says right when she heard the beat for ‘Finesse’ she had to write to it. The beat, produced by LowkeyMali, samples Afropop anthem, ‘Finesse’ by Pheelz. Praise said “I wanted to make a song that was hype and talk my talk. I want listeners, especially the girls, to feel themselves when they listen to the track and dance. The track is supposed to let everyone know that I’m here. I’ve been waiting my turn, so ‘Finesse’ is a statement piece, something that includes right in the chorus. I hope ‘Finesse’ makes people feel as confident as I did in the booth recording it and gets them hype”. Praise’s attitude on the track coincides with her passion and lyrical intelligence, making for a complete banger.

One of the great feelgood stories in rap this year has been the rise of Memphis party-starter GloRilla, whose viral smash ‘FNF (Let’s Go)’ came out of nowhere and crashed the charts just as summer was starting up. Since then, GloRilla has signed with Yo Gotti’s CMG label, and she’s put out some great collabs. GloRilla releases Anyways, Life’s Great…, her debut EP. Before the record arrived, she had one more song for us. You don’t get any prizes for figuring out what ‘Nut Quick’ is all about. GloRilla is an extremely direct rapper; it’s one of her great strengths. On ‘Nut Quick,’ she goes in hard over a simple, hammering beat. She really talks her shit on this one: “I’m a raw-ass bitch, but swear to God I can’t be fucked with/ Found out I was pregnant, got it gone, and I ain’t fuck since/ He thought I would be crazy after sex, but I ain’t nothin’/ He could’ve been my favorite sneaky link, but he just nut quick.” If she’s rapping about you, you’re having a bad day. Chanelle Kazadi‘s video for ‘Smile’ captivates with its vibrance and mesmerizing sound. Kazadi, who grew up in Ravenna, Ohio, found her true passion in music after initially pursuing a career as a professional boxer. After releasing a series of strong early project, she built momentum and shared her versatile 2021 album Make It Work, which she then followed up with two singles, ‘Pootie Tang’ and ‘Smile’, the latter of which has now been given a fresh accompanying visual that captures its ethereal, warm sonics. ‘Smile’, produced by Dawg9000, blooms with textural, glowing samples chopped neatly atop a laid-back rhythm section consisting of refreshing percussion and a rich, engaging bassline. Atop the balmy instrumentation, Kazadi shines as she delivers a series of characteristically dynamic, fluid bars containing detailed, poetic lyricism. Right now, the Memphis rapper GloRilla is going through a wild, dizzy come-up. Earlier this year, she released ‘FNF (Let’s Go),’ an underground smash that went viral and crossed over to the Hot 100. That success won GloRilla a deal with hometown rap king Yo Gotti’s CMG label, and she made her debut for that label when she released her song ‘Tomorrow’ a couple of months ago. Now, Glorilla has a new version of ‘Tomorrow’ with her spiritual and stylistic peer Cardi B, and its video will brighten your day. Cardi and GloRilla make so much sense together. They both make assertively ratchet head-slap music, and they both sound great over hard, simple beats. In the Diesel Filmz-directed video for ‘Tomorrow 2,’ GloRilla and her friends go wild in Cardi’s New York hometown, pole-dancing on subway poles and hanging out of sunroofs. Then, Cardi herself shows up and says a whole lot of tough shit: “Bitches be on dick today, sing every word of ‘Up’ tomorrow/ Bitch, I still got cases opened, keep your mouth shut tomorrow.” [via Stereogum]

Haviah Mighty has returned with ‘Honey Bun,’ a moody new song about the surface-level pleasures of fame. Produced by Bizness Boi and Derelle Rideout, ‘Honey Bun’ represents the mentality of always wanting more once you experience success. In a press release, Mighty explained that after a breakup, she turned to the material benefits of her rising rap career for comfort, only to realize that owning a bunch of Prada and Balenciaga can only make you so happy. “The end of this relationship was the end of stability and certainty for a time. It broke my trust. It meant that my value system around building relationships had completely changed. Where I once sought authenticity in a new connection, I found my desires were only surface,” Mighty recalled. “I pivoted hard to self-validation, recognizing my co-dependency on this person only after being left behind.
