Kaliii continues to lay down the law. Last year, the ATL rapper made a splash with her viral hit ‘Area Codes.’ Now she has shared her empowered new single, ‘Bozo.’ The song precedes her upcoming EP, which is slated for release this spring. On ‘Bozo,’ Kaliii makes it known she’s not the one to play with. She tells the story of a break-up, unfazed about hearing of a man’s infidelity. Evidently, Kaliii heard the news from the man’s mistress, but simply lets the woman know that she can have that man. “Come to me as a woman? That’s a no-no / ‘Cuz who the fck wants smoke about a bozo,” she raps on one of the song’s verse. The song features a prominent sample of Keyshia Cole’s ‘Love,’ but make no mistake — Kaliii won’t be suckered back in. After a vocal sample of Cole singing the word “love,” Kaliii raps “Fck that, ain’t no more love for a ho” and says “his homeboy the one I should’ve chose.” In the song’s video, Kalii is seen gossiping with her girls about the break-up, then living her best life dressed to the nines on a yacht, while the titular bozo begs for another chance.
Memphis rapper GloRilla shares new single ‘Yeah Glo!’ – tune in now. The Southern talent is set to have a huge 2024, recently inking a deal with Tommy Hilfiger. A fashion forward figure, Glo ended lat year on a high, with her massive single ‘Pop It’ causing a ruckus on its release. Hitting 2024, new single ‘Yeah Glo!’ ups the ante yet again. A crunk-infused banger with a call-and-response chorus – “get ’em Glo!” – it’s an anthemic hard-hitter, with GloRilla at her most unruly. A rap renegade, production on the song comes from an all-star team – Go Grizzly, B100, Squat Beats and Lil Ronnie. The Grammy nominated talent is centre stage, with GloRilla working alongside director Troy Roscoe on the video. [via Clash]

Ivorian Doll enters a new era on ‘Bulletproof’. Out now, the new single finds Ivorian Doll speaking her truth. Long regarded as the Queen of Drill, she refuses to be hemmed in on a track that highlights her creative finesse. Bold and colourful, the track embraces pop energy, dislocating Ivorian Doll from drill while remaining respectful to her roots. The new release follows co-signs from Headie One and Keke Palmer, and recent release ‘3am (From The Block Freestyle)’; Ivorian Doll also sparkles on Sneakbo’s ensemble single ‘GUCCII’.
Nyota Parker, the eclectic hip hop and neo-soul artist, is set to unveil her latest musical endeavor, ‘MIDST,’ a poignant exploration of the enduring connection between an artist and their craft. Produced by the talented Stoic beats, the emotionally captivating, drumless, and slow-pulling beat provides the perfect backdrop for Nyota’s introspective journey. In ‘MIDST,’ Nyota delves into the profound theme of music always finding its way back to its creator. This soul-stirring track reflects on the challenges of creative blocks and daily life struggles, emphasizing the resilience and unwavering connection between Nyota and her art. The slow-pulling beat creates an immersive sonic experience, drawing listeners into the labyrinth of Nyota’s introspective exploration. Nyota intricately weaves a narrative that contemplates the often-overlooked reality of posthumous recognition and legendary status. The lyrics subtly name-drop influential artists, seamlessly integrating their names and iconic song titles into the verses. Through poignant storytelling, Nyota emphasizes the guiding force of music, offering solace and understanding in the midst of despair and indifference. The beat for ‘MIDST’ is masterfully crafted by the renowned producer Stoic beats, known for his ability to create evocative and atmospheric soundscapes. The collaboration between Nyota Parker and Stoic beats promises a musical journey that transcends conventional boundaries, blending introspection with a captivating sonic experience.
The Joyful Creatrix releases her debut single ‘Purple Swag / I’mma Live Forever’. The single is a hip-hop/rap/trap record that showcases The Joyful Creatix’s top-notch lyrical content and mischievous impish spirit. ‘Purple Swag / I’mma Live Forever’ was produced by Anywaywell and was recorded at Jazzy Sadhu’s Recording Studio & Guitar School in Kolkata, West Bengal, India and was mixed and mastered by Dmitriy Nazaretyan. The Joyful Creatrix had this to say on the track: “I think that one of the driving forces to create for artists is to leave behind something that will outlast them. That’s the underlying theme of the song.”

Toronto’s Ekelle rhymes about what she knows best: her real-life experience. Money, sex, drama, and identity stir together to create a style she calls Hood Pop – popular music with a street edge. “Your baddies are your real ones, hustlers who get shit done and keep it moving,” Ekelle says about her aptly titled new single ‘Baddie,’ which is “perfect for pre-gaming with your girls or driving around on a sunny day.”

Polaris Music Prize-shortlisted rapper DijahSB shares their latest body of work, the much-anticipated Tasty Raps Vol. 2 EP, produced by Clairmont the Second alongside the blistering focus track, ‘I Feel Like Rihanna.’ On Tasty Raps Vol 2, we see a different sonic side to DijahSB, the long-awaited second installment of the EP series with the title aptly inspired by direct praise from Kid Cudi himself – who is also a major influence in Dijah’s work and drive to normalize rapping with honesty and raw emotion. On ‘I Feel Like Rhianna,’ we get glitchy-but-effective percussion on a dreamy, swagger-dappled track. It’s tongue in cheek, as they rap about their experience with success, weighed against their ongoing struggles with mental health. Ever earnest and open about their struggles with depression, mental health, and financial instability, DijahSB balances their candid, frank storytelling with lyricism that’s always playfully dexterous; inspirational but never didactic.

Germany-born, London, UK-based rapper Ivorian Doll returns with ‘Diss To Dillon’ as she sets off her Doll Freestyle Series. The track sees her in her element and showcases her skill as a rapper who can hold her own as a lyricist. Over the barebones menacing soundscape, Ivorian Doll delivers a plethora of verbal darts toward a certain cheating individual, reminding him that he is not up to par. IVD sure knows the assignment and doesn’t hold back with lines like “disrespect to me, I ain’t the one, come again hoe/ finger up your bum, I made you scream, do your friends know?” and I must add that was just a tip of the iceberg. The track comes with a performance shot-themed video directed by Aminould that captures Ivorian Doll in her element doing what she knows best. It’s simple, straight forward and the seamless transitions add that gritty flavor to the track. [via Earmilk]

Last year, the wildly talented Tampa rapper and singer Doechii broke out with her starmaking she / her / black bitch EP and signed with TDE. This year, Doechii has released the Kodak Black collab ‘What It Is (Block Boy)’ and rapped over the UGK/Outkast classic ‘Int’l Players Anthem’ on her own track ‘Universal Swamp Anthem.’ This fall, Doechii will tour arenas as the opening act on the Doja Cat/Ice Spice tour. Now, she’s got a very fun new single called ‘Booty Drop.’ ‘Booty Drop’ samples Jersey club producer Uniiqu3’s 2018 track ‘Bubble Gum.’ Weirdly, though, the track was produced by Stargate, the Norwegian production team who worked on a bunch of Rihanna’s biggest hits. On ‘Booty Drop,’ Doechii adapts beautifully to the sped-up Jersey club style sing-rapping double-time horny strip-club come-ons. Best line: “Eat that ass fast like DoorDash/ I don’t need knee pads, I just need to see that.” The song’s video takes place on a yacht and involves a lot of butts, and it’s filmed on what looks like an early-’90s VHS tape.
Sexyy Red and Sukihana have proved that they’ve got what it takes to make things raunchy with the video for their new single, ‘Hood Rats’. Combining a mix of sophisticated and ratchet to create their own “sophisti-ratchet” style, the dynamic duo give a nod and a wink to BAPS, the classic film starring Halle Berry and Natalie Desselle. Red and Suki raise hell and holy water in a country club, slurping down champagne and twerking for a Joe Biden analogue while leaving nothing to the imagination, as Webbie and other celebs like Summer Walker and Saucy Santana make special guest appearances. If it wasn’t clear as to who Sexyy Red and Sukihana are trying to entice using their feminine charms, Sukihana spells it out: “I swallow n-ggas/ I really feel like an elephant/ Tell Joe Biden I wanna suck on the President!” [via Hip Hop DX]

Multi-platinum recording artist Coi Leray, has released her new single ‘Run It Up’ via Uptown Records/Republic Records. ‘Run It Up’ follows ‘Bops’ and ‘My Body’ as Coi’s third single from her highly anticipated sophomore album, COI. Coi continues to serve up hit after hit, repeatedly proving her success as a chart-topping artist.

Ivorian Doll, the esteemed “Queen of Drill,” takes a bold step forward with her latest single, ‘Big Bad IVD’. Shedding her drill persona, she embraces a fresh pop-leaning era that showcases her versatility as an artist. This captivating release flips a sample from the iconic 50 Cent hit, ‘P.I.M.P.’, infusing it with her infectious energy and distinctive style, marking a significant entry into her evolving discography and demonstrating her ability to seamlessly transition between genres while maintaining her signature charisma.
June 8, City Girls released ‘I Need A Thug,’ a track that interpolated LL Cool J‘s ‘I Need Love’ and kept the Miami duo in their lyrical comfort zones, outlining exactly what they need out of a partner and what they can offer in return. Less than 24 hours later, another single, ‘Piñata,’ arrived. The new track is far more sonically aggressive than ‘Thug,’ thanks chiefly to the beat from 808 Mafia’s Southside. The bass is peaking red, distorted, and relentless, an effect that’s underlined during the chorus of JT’s breathy entreaties. The constantly ascending aggression of the instrumental helps distinguish it from City Girls’ previous single, another song where JT and Miami run up a check and run through a list of what man should do for them. [via The FADER]

We already know Doja Cat is good at getting attention. Now we get to find out if she’s good at making ‘Attention.’ Her new single marks the start of a new era, presumably leading to her first album since 2021’s Planet Her, though she’s trickled out one-off tracks like the Elvis soundtrack single ‘Vegas’ and an appearance on SZA’s ‘Kill Bill’ remix that helped push the song to #1. In February, Doja said she wanted to make a hardcore album and that her next record would lean in a “more masculine direction.” In the case of ‘Attention,’ it seems that means a focus on rap over pop. “Look at me, look at me!” she instructs us. “You lookin’?” See for yourself below via director Tanu Muino’s music video. [via Stereogum]

Dreya Mac makes a powerful return with her first release of 2023, a new heater that she’s called ‘Better Off’. The hard-hitting track, produced by The Elements, enters with a bang, grabbing listeners with its bold energy and a pulsating trap sound. Lyrically, Dreya fearlessly expresses her love for all kinds of women, delivering impactful lyrics that celebrate her identity and those women around her. Amidst this, she makes sure to showcase her flexing prowess too, adding an extra layer of confidence to the track. [via GRM Daily]

Detroit rap phenomenon Kash Doll returns with a hypnotic new single entitled ‘Ridin’ via MNRK Music Group. On the track, a nostalgic R&B loop underlines Kash’s hard-hitting and emotionally-charged bars. Between thumping 808s, sizzling hi-hats, and lively snaps, she unleashes three incendiary verses punctuated by her nimble flow and quotable punchlines. Alternating between deft rapping and dynamic singing, she ponders the ups and downs of a turbulent romance with a chantable chorus as she warns, “Don’t have me ridin’, ridin’, ridin’, ridin’, ‘round for you.” About ‘Ridin’, Kash Doll commented, “This record is fun and true. Guys start acting up in the summer! I love this record because I got a chance to test my range by singing and rapping. I hope you all love it too!” [via Broadway World]

21-year-old singer and rapper Shan.X has released a new genre-bending single ‘Mr.Know’. The pop and rap-influenced R&B track dives into Shan.X’s complex past relationships and reflects on how her most recent relationship ended. X wrote this song very shortly after her last relationship came to an end, around a similar time that she wrote ‘Wish IGAF’. Shan’s ex left without communicating upfront about what was going on, and this song is a reflection on the whole situation and the end of their relationship. When asked about the song, Shan.X said she was speaking on lots of things that were happening “right before he left because those were the things that were standing out to me the most in that time”. This single seems to blend Shan.X’s R&B influences with her more alternative and rap influences. On ‘Mr. Know’, X attacks the beat with a strong vocal presence and catchy melodies, combined with raspy rhythmic adlibs. ‘Mr. Know’ reveals the depth of Shan.X’s unique artistry encapsulating the many stylistic talents that she has, and draws listeners in connecting with them and sharing her vulnerabilities. This single lets listeners get to know Shan.X on a deeper level.

The track finds IVD firing lyrical barbs towards the way of any naysayers, as she responds to some comments made recently about her looks that she didn’t take too kindly to, responding with some serious jabs. The visuals feature primarily a one take shot and come courtesy of director Crematics. [via GRM Daily]

MOBO certified artist and “Queen of flow” Crae Wolf switches things up for her latest release ‘Enough is Enough’. Not straying too far from her roots, the track bears a jumpy instrumental infused with notable Drill sonics. Crae laces this infectious offering with tantalising vocals, switching effortlessly between her native tongue English, into French and back again. Proving that she can conquer both bars and melodies, ‘Enough is Enough’ is everything you’d expect from Crae Wolf and so much more.

ShaSimone can spit hard. An intimidating persona, she’s also not afraid to be open. Recent single ‘Lock Off’ showed the rapper at her most dynamic, lifting the tempo for those epic double-time flows. Aiming to keep fans on their toes, new single ‘Thug Affection’ flips the script once more, with ShaSimone dropping the tempo for a work of ruthless honesty. Opening with spoken word testimony from a therapist, ‘Thug Affection’ boasts bass-heavy LikkleDotz production, the spartan arrangement moving from sub-low elements through to those tinkling notes of piano. Putting her heart on the line, ShaSimone talks about the trials of the dating scene, and the necessity that love and commitment hold in her life. She comments… “’Thug Affection’ is a song I made which is a reflection of the current dating scene from my perspective. Situationships have become so glamorised and I feel like a lot of people are craving genuine, real love. So this song is a dedication to all the people looking for something real.” A bold yet subtle track, ‘Thug Affection’ spins everything you know about ShaSimone on its head.
Continuing a red hot summer, Dallas rap star Erica Banks serves up a sizzling new music video for her latest single ‘Trick’ via 1501 Certified Entertainment/Warner Records. It remains a standout from her 2022 mixtape, Diary of the Flow Queen. The track’s thick bassline wobbles between a head-nodding beat. She launches into a series of raw and racy rhymes before a hard-hitting hook. As if offering up an instruction manual to the hustle, she urges, “Give ’em a show.” The sexy and celebratory accompanying visual illuminates her uncontainable spirit and star-power on-screen, bringing the song to life with no shortage of seduction.
New York rapper CLIP returns with bold new single ‘FALL BACK’. The artist’s debut EP PERCEPTION is out on September 8, released via tastemaker imprint In Real Life. Recent single ‘Calvin K’ caused a ruckus, with CLIP’s natural flamboyance coming to the fore. Ahead of this, bruising new single ‘FALL BACK’ is online now. The bass-heavy production carries a real sense of swagger, illuminated by those bright, buoyant electronics. Self-described as “pretty girl music” there’s a real sense of style to the way CLIP approaches this track. She says: “The energy for ‘FALL BACK’ came naturally. The beat is so beautiful and brought to mind iconic women rappers of the 90s and 2000s – I wanted to channel pretty girl music while still talking my shit.” The full video is also online, with CLIP continuing: “Moshpxt’s video brings ‘FALL BACK’ to life because it’s as if he created my own dream land, and that’s where my mind is most of the time. The visuals ultimately complement how euphoric and yet energetic the beat is.” [via Clash]

Armed with her bass-laden vocal tone and unrelenting confident demeanor, she reminds folks not to jump to conclusions because the reality might not be palatable hence don’t pose a question when you have an assumed answer. The track also sees her blending English with her native Yoruba language in an effortless manner as she glides over the beta with much gusto and finesse.
After teasing ‘Plan B’ at Coachella 2022 and officially dropping the new track shortly after, Megan Thee Stallion’s latest hit single finally gets its own music video, along with some major high-fashion looks from Mugler. We’ve seen Megan as a Mugler muse before, as she wore the designer label to the 2022 Billboard Awards, both on the red carpet and on stage for her live performance of ‘Plan B’ and ‘Sweetest Pie.’ For the video, Megan is seen wearing multiple Mugler custo looks, including a sheer paneled bodysuit with printed jeans and a cropped blazer top, a similar bodysuit with thigh-high stockings, as well as a headpiece designed by famous milliner Stephen Jones.
Doja Cat has shared the video for her new track ‘Vegas’, which she recorded for the soundtrack of Baz Luhrmann’s new Elvis Presley biopic. The footage features a cameo by Shonka Dukureh, the singer and actress who plays early rock n roll pioneer Big Mama Thornton in Elvis. Thornton’s original version of ‘Hound Dog’ is incorporated into Doja Cat’s new track, and was famously re-recorded by Presley to huge success. [via NME]

Two of rap’s fastest-rising women link up for a fiery collaboration on Lakeyah‘s ‘Mind Yo Business’ featuring Latto. The Atlanta native and the Atlanta transplant (by way of Milwaukee) display some aggressive chemistry on the fast-paced track, which finds them boasting their big-money moves while warning haters not to stick their noses where they don’t belong. In the song’s video, the two women lounge among the shrubbery in a well-manicured garden while the thirsty gardeners try to catch a glimpse of their greatness from behind the hedges.
