Alongside the release of the full EP, Kit is highlighting the fast, feral, and fuzzy punk track, ‘Potion Seller.’ Laced with a touch of rockabilly energy, ‘Potion Seller’ is a song about wanting to feel better in your own skin. With lyrics such as, “I want to stop my weeping wallow, I want to be the best,” and “And I tell you I’ll be careful, but I’m lying through my teeth,” the track explores feelings of hopelessness concealed by a defiant promise to do whatever it takes to get a quick fix. “It’s got this frantic, raw energy of someone constantly returning, desperate, saying, “Make me better!”,” Kit explains.

Now, she is releasing the newest single from her EP, ‘Sponge.’ Clocking in at just under two minutes, it packs a 90’s grungy punch, immediately kicked off by the gritty guitar riff and crashing drums. “‘Sponge’ is a song full of grit and glitter,” Kit says. “It’s made for flipping over tables and maybe cleaning up the aftermath.”

“When I was first writing ‘Sponge’, it was melodic and a little mindless, but somewhat poetic,” Kit recalls. “I wasn’t trying to dig too deep, but then the song grew into a bigger concept of absorption: either people absorbing me or me absorbing others. Being a sponge isn’t necessarily a good or bad thing.”

‘Garbage Planet’ is a sonically saturated visit to an intensely personal destination. “Garbage Planet is a real place and I visit it often,” Kit says. Kit continues, “Garbage planet isn’t supposed to be woe is me and it’s not supposed to be a self deprecating statement, it’s owning the parts of yourself that aren’t perfect and learning to be okay with it, it’s just the way my planet orbits around yours.” Sometimes the confessional can also be universal.

Major.’ It was a dream of a music video to make and put together; it’s very Beatlesque. I’ve been performing with my band since November and it’s so exciting to have our first video all together. It was directed by Adrian Vega Albela Osorio, who has been a long time friend and collaborator.

“‘IWUDHMSM’ is funny to me because it’s such a long title. I tried every option, but nothing fit as well as just saying the full sentence! Saying, ‘I wish you didn’t hate me’ is so intense. You can hate me…I just wish you didn’t hate me SO much.”

Taking inspiration from Y2K pop-punk icons Avril Lavigne, The Veronicas, and Paramore, ‘God Complex’ is an addictive grunge-pop banger packed to the brim with catchy guitar riffs and melodies that’ll immediately get stuck in your head.

“I wrote God Complex on a hot summer day in 2020 with my best friend and roommate, Nöel Dombroski, a day or two after we found an acoustic guitar in the dumpster which was later named Universe,” Kit told us. “We were jamming in my bedroom and she came up with a baseline that sparked the idea. Immediately from there we wrote from what we knew- being two stoners in our twenties, trying to figure it out.

“‘God Complex’ is searching for something or someone out there- maybe it’s about love… or maybe it’s about finding a really cool alien. Up to interpretation.

“I think ‘God Complex’ captures a really cool mix between passion and appreciation for imperfection and self reflection, while maintaining a cool, refreshing attitude that in life, you don’t need all the answers. “

‘I’m Bitter!’ feels relatable for so many reasons. What inspired you to write the song?

“I was getting ready for a shower and a melody with these five words came into my subconscious: “three years with no flowers.” I stopped and wrote the rest of that song, still wearing my towel. The message in that song feels really cathartic. Writing it helped boost my own confidence because it has elements of the type of relationship I’d like to have one day.”

Who are some of your main sonic influences?

“My influences shift, but as of late I’d say Lady Gaga, Avril Lavigne, Weezer, Garbage, and other – turn of the century!- vibes. I love blending pop and rock elements. I want my music to be like a genre smoothie.”

What was the process like making this video? Any funny BTS moments?

“I had an amazing time working with director, Nicole Lipp, on this video! I think what made it so much fun was creating a character extension of myself: a stoner who loves cereal and binge watches old MTV 2000s videos. My favorite moments include the two of us running and jumping up the sides of the empty pool yelling, “PARKOUR” and driving the yellow Camaro! Driving top down and screaming the lyrics to ‘I’m Bitter!’ was an extremely freeing experience. Plus I’ll take any chance I can to feel like Cher from Clueless.”

Kit Major shares the story behind the song: “I wanted to make a cinematic breakup song hitting romcom visuals like burning pictures, forgotten t-shirts, and flowers. But the more I wrote the more I realized I was self-editing to protect myself from feeling pain and disappointment, which of course, made me want to keep going to break through that! I’m a writer because I can only get through this world through music and my imagination. I’m a romantic (and a nervous one), but with these last couple of years, especially with the pandemic, I’ve felt that I’ve been at risk of losing my own magic. I’ve noticed when you get older, it’s so much easier to get absorbed in your day-to-day existence. I don’t ever want to lose my imagination. I don’t want to stop wishing and hoping, and I don’t want to stop loving because I have so much love to give. This is a song for the inner romantics. I hope “I’m Bitter!” can make you feel like the main character you deserve to be in your own life. “I’m Bitter!” Is the start of my EP journey, you can expect more songs like this. I would say the EP is nice mix of garage, pop, and rock. It kind of reminds me of the feeling you get watching TV wide awake at 3am.”
