Lake Malice unleash their “dark pop-metal takedown of vanity and nepotism in the music scene”. Already a live favourite, ‘Nobody Wants To Be You’ embraces vocalist Alice Guala’s sassy Italian flair, calling out the superficial, nepotistic and self-obsessed. In a system where meritocracy feels absent, Lake Malice channel their frustrations through industrial rhythms and choruses exploding with energy. ‘Nobody Wants To Be You’ is a metal-core weapon, serving as a cathartic scream against industry fakery. The track exemplifies Guala’s vocal prowess, as she seamlessly shifts between pure, soaring melody and guttural aggression. ‘Nobody Wants To Be You’ was produced by Lake Malice guitarist extraordinaire Blake Cornwall, alongside Jon Cass, mixed by Carl Bown and mastered by Ste Kerry. The accompanying music video, directed by Zak Pinchin, is a dark and highly stylised affair, complete with the backup dancers who we’ve seen grace the stage with Malice this summer.

Canadian metal outfit Juliet Ruin has dropped their electrifying second single and music video ‘Reactance Theory,’ off their upcoming EP Regime, set to release November 7. Known for their genre-fluid blend of chunky riffs, soaring melodies, and emotionally raw lyricism, Juliet Ruin is back with what may be their most collaborative and high-energy track to date.

‘Reactance Theory’ explores the psychological concept coined by Jack Brehm, which explains why people resist threats to their personal freedom. The song dives into the dopamine-fueled impulses that drive rebellion, wrapped in a belted, catchy vocal performance that came together in a moment of serendipity. Vocalist Jess Fleming mistook the verses for the chorus during the writing process, resulting in a track that’s relentlessly energetic from start to finish.

“This song came together with a lot of input from each member. Wes brought in the initial hook guitar lead, and we built it piece by piece. It’s probably one of the most collaboratively written songs we’ve ever done,” says the band.

The accompanying music video amplifies the song’s themes with visceral visuals and dynamic performance shots, capturing the band’s signature live energy and studio-tight execution.

EVA UNDER FIRE return with the riveting and demon-conquering ‘Awakening.’ Out now, it’s the first taste of new music in two years from the Detroit, MI quintet, signaling perhaps that this could be the start of a new album campaign.

‘Awakening’ is a blistering and inspirational anthem from Amanda Lyberg (vocals), Rob Lyberg (lead guitar), Chris Slapnik (rhythm guitar), Ed Gawlik (bass), and Dave Miller II (drums). “The guys and I are stoked about the upcoming album,” proclaims Amanda, whose gutsy vocals spectacularly cut through the raging guitars. “These songs are everything we wanted to write. We made sure it was the most honest version of our story. ‘Awakening’ is an anthem about conquering personal demons. The rest of the album is what it took to get there. It’s also a story packaged in the heaviest riffs we’ve ever played so I think listeners will be pleasantly surprised. Cheers to the new era!”

IVY CROWN have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘This Delusion,’ is the brand new single from the Danish metalcore band and marks their first new music since 2019’s Echo.

The new single was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen [VOLBEAT, AMARANTHE, EPICA] at Hansen Studios. It features a collaboration with Helle Bohdanova, vocalist of the Ukrainian metal band IGNEA, and marks a new era for the band with Maja Shining [FOREVER STILL, MYRKUR] joining as the band’s new vocalist.

Speaking about the new single, vocalist Maja Shining from the band shares, “Helle has been a good friend over the years, so when we had the conversation about features for the album, I immediately knew that she was the right choice. I could already hear her powerful growls when I wrote the vocal parts for ‘This Delusion’.”

Finnish heavy metal sensation BATTLE BEAST proudly release their seventh studio album, Steelbound — an electrifying and highly anticipated record that marks a bold new chapter for the band.

To mark the release, BATTLE BEAST have also unveiled a brand-new music video for ‘Twilight Cabaret’, offering fans another glimpse into the vibrant world of Steelbound.

Daedric are getting closer to the Light. The Texas metalcore adventurists are about to release their sophomore LP, As the Light Left, and the band teamed with Revolver to premiere the collection’s fearless first track, ‘The Other Terror,’ along with its striking music video.

The new song follows recent singles ‘Sand Tiger’ and ‘Undone,’ and while some of the album previews thus far have taken on turntable-twisting flavors of early nu-metal, ‘The Other Terror’ contorts itself through a concussively modern arrangement.

Above the world-imploding drum kicks and darkly detuned riffage, vocalist Kristyn Hope weaponizes melodic rasps and monstrous bleghs as dangerous as the “blades” in her mouth — and certainly the big straight sword she’s brandishing in the video (“I think I’ve killed now”).

THE PRETTY WILD have released a brand-new single. The new track, titled ‘AFTERLIFE,’ features MAGNOLIA PARK and is taken from the band’s upcoming debut album zero.point.genesis, which is scheduled to be released on November 21 via Sumerian Records.

Speaking about the new single, the band says, “’AFTERLIFE’ circles the idea of star-crossed souls bound by something ancient and unbreakable. Conceptually it’s plucked from the kind of love you find in mythology and old tragedies, where you have this obsessive devotion and destruction. It isn’t perfect, but it’s dark, beautiful, and eternal.”

Adding to this, Jyl shares, “’AFTERLIFE’ explores the idea that love dynamics are rooted in codependent magnetism and resonance patterns. It asks, what happens when obsession doesn’t end with death, but carries your soul into magnetising eternal dynamics? The result is kinda tragic and romantically glitchy. It’s basically a pop-metal requiem.”

AD INFINITUM have released a brand new music video. The Swiss/German modern metal unit have unveiled ‘Regicide,’ a new single released just ahead of their very first European headline tour.

Speaking about the new single, the band says, “as we prepare to kick off our first European headline tour, we’re thrilled to surprise our fans with a brand new song. One they’ll already be able to experience live in just a few days. ‘Regicide’ blends the dark soundscapes of Abyss with a bolder, more rebellious energy.”

ENTHEOS have released a brand new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Empty On The Inside,’ is a standalone single from the American progressive death metal band and is their first new music since their latest EP, An End To Everything, which was released in October last year, via Metal Blade Records. The new music video was directed by Malcolm Pugh.

Speaking about the new song, vocalist Chaney Crabb says, “’Empty On The Inside’ is a raw, cathartic song about pouring your entire soul into something that you thought would bring fulfillment to your life, but it only makes you feel empty in return. It is ENTHEOS in our purest form, expanding on our grunge and alternative metal sound. This track truly marks the beginning of a new era for our band.”

UK metal band, Cage Fight – Rachel Aspe (vocals), James Monteith (guitar), Nick Plews (drums) and Will Horsman (bass) – have released new single, ‘PIG.’

On ‘Pig’, Rachel calls out the creepy men who send women unsolicited messages online. The video includes real messages sent directly to Rachel and to other women that volunteered the inclusion of their experiences.

Vocalist Rachel Aspe commented: “’PIG’ is the expression of my disgust of men sending unsolicited intimate pictures, messages, crossing boundaries and harassing women digitally. I’ve had hundreds over the years, and it’s crazy to think that everyday women regularly get these messages. I just wanted to scream my hatred to them, raise awareness of the issue and show solidarity to other women who experience this abuse.”

Electro-emo angst-pop trio AIR DRAWN DAGGER have released new track ‘Sanctifound’. It’s the third track from their upcoming debut album A Guide For Apparitions, set for release on April 4 via Long Branch Records. The accompanying music video was directed by Aaran McKenzie (While She Sleeps).

“Keeping the acoustic guitar for the intro riff (inspired by Lamb of God) catapults us into a realm which is intense, rainy and unsettling. We are introduced to the album’s protagonists ‘The Martyrs’ and welcomed with open arms, we are indoctrinated into the fold, warned against evil in the lake and thrust into the mosh pits as the synths and riffs hit hard,” says the band on the new track.

Running the gamut between the heaviest and poppiest of genres, Brighton duo Lake Malice’s new single ‘Scatterbrain’, released with illustrative music video, is as mind-melting as it sounds. Alice Guala and Blake Cornwall, who self-produced the track, have drawn influences from forward-thinking artists as diverse as Enter Shikari, Loathe, Charli XCX, Grimes and Bring Me The Horizon to explosive effect.

Blake says “’Scatterbrain’ is about feeling disillusioned and overwhelmed in modern day society. The repeating chant: “Spin, wash, repeat, mind, soul, body, neat” is a metaphor for struggling to keep up in a chronically online, superficial and capitalistic society, leaving little time to take care of yourself and make meaningful social connections.

“The line “I can’t trust my bank, I’ve no five year plan, but I’m so good at dreaming” is a commentary on the unrealistic expectations to achieve the same prospects and goals of older generations. Despite having constant access to each other’s lives through social media, we have never felt more disconnected from the world around us and anxious to leave our homes.

“The themes of desperation and frustration are reflected musically by glitchy, hyper-pop-inspired rhythms, in contrast with an anthemic rock chorus and anger-fuelled, modern metalcore guitar riffs.”

Formed in Minsk, Belarus, two previous album releases by alternative metal group Mission Jupiter have hinted at their potential to be one of the few acts from that territory to achieve lift-off worldwide. Having recruited powerhouse singer Kate Varsak prior to writing and recording their upcoming third album, Aftermath, the result is a set of dramatic, epic songs with thoroughly modern production values that should see them soar.

‘Self-Destruction’ has been released as the latest single to be teased from the record. The heaviest and punchiest song by Mission Jupiter to date, the band explain that the story behind it is deeply personal and refers to a battle with mental disorder. “When you’re feeling down, it feels like the parasite living inside you has won, and you’re stuck in mental and physical discomfort forever. The only way to survive is to take a pill to ease the pain. We hope this song will resonate with our listeners on a profound level.”

Canadian dark pop act The Birthday Massacre have released a new single entitled ‘Sleep Tonight’, the first to be issued from their upcoming album Pathways, which is set for release on April 11 via Metropolis Records.

“’Sleep Tonight’ is a song about being haunted by our own ghosts,” the band explain. “Memories and regrets follow us as we try to find comfort. Even the most familiar and safe places can feel sinister as we wrestle with these feelings that we often bury deep within ourselves.”

Sleep Tonight by The Birthday Massacre

Bleeth, the Cuban-American trio from Miami, emerges once again with their crushing blend of stoner metal and sludge metal , unveiling their latest single, ‘Monarchs’. This track serves as the first glimpse into their upcoming album Marionette, a visceral exploration of control, fear, and resilience, set for release in April/May.

‘Monarchs’ takes inspiration from the awe-inspiring Sequoia trees , often called the “Kings of the Forest.” The track serves as both a tribute to nature’s power and a warning against human negligence. Vocalist Lauren Palma recalls the devastating 2021 Sequoia National Park fires , reflecting on the destruction of these ancient giants. The song draws parallels between the collapse of monarchies —brought down by arrogance and short-sightedness—and the ongoing environmental crises caused by greed and recklessness. Just as unchecked power leads to downfall, unchecked human activity threatens to consume the very world we inhabit.

With the recent fires in Los Angeles serving as yet another grim reminder, ‘Monarchs’ feels more urgent than ever. Bleeth invites listeners to immerse themselves in the track’s crushing weight and contemplate the fragility of both nature and civilization.

Canadian heavy rock force THE FIXER has unleashed the official music video for ‘Tongue’s Bleeding,’ taken from their debut full-length album Your Lie (Wormholedeath Records). Filmed during their massive 40-date ‘Love and Misfortune’ Tour across Canada, the video captures the band’s electrifying live energy and unfiltered intensity.

Last fall, DJERV released the song ‘Rebel Heart’ as part of the official soundtrack for Season Two of the critically acclaimed Netflix series Arcane. What happens when Norwegian hard rock collides with one of the world’s most iconic series? The answer is ‘Rebel Heart’ – a track that created magic in a pivotal and emotional scene in Arcane, topping global charts and captivating millions.

Now the long-awaited music video, produced by Helmet, is finally here. Erlend Gjerde shares details about the filming process: “The video was shot in an equestrian hall in Trondheim. It was two long and insanely cold days, especially for Agnete, who was covered in wet clay for most of the shoot. Helmet arranged for heating tents and everything, but it was still cold AS F%#.”

The video’s setting is a dark and dusty landscape, which eventually erupts into intense flashes of red and green lights. The typography and architecture are inspired by Arcane, with multiple nods to the universe.

Vocalist Agnete Kjølsrud has also been inspired by creating music for the game, the series and not least the character Jinx. She says: “It’s wonderful to feel the presence of Jinx again! I feel like I’m holding her hand in ‘Rebel Heart’. A hidden part of me is totally uncompromising, and in this song I feel a kind of freedom, even though the sadness is imminent.”

Erlend continues: “We wanted to convey a lot of energy and intensity while reflecting ‘Arcane’ and the League of Legends universe that the song is tied to. It feels great to finally release a proper video, even though the single came out a little while ago. A single release doesn’t feel truly complete until the music video is out as well, so we’re excited to share it with the world!”

EMPLOYED TO SERVE have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Fallen Star’, is the title track UK metal band’s upcoming new album which is scheduled to be released in April this year, via Spinefarm Records.

Speaking about the new song, and its accompanying music video, vocalist Justine Jones shares, “’Fallen Star’ is about enduring the burn out of someone close to us. It can be devastating to look on helplessly as someone you care for continues to fly too close to the sun and not learn from it. Sometimes you need to just distance yourself and love them from afar. We felt it should be the title track as it thematically centers around the lyrics of the new record. Breaking bad habits and overcoming the challenges life throws our way. The music video for this song displays the space and isolation felt whilst writing the lyrics for this song. As the title track of the album we wanted to make the video look as expansive and ethereal as the song.”

FORLORN have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Keeper Of The Well’, is taken from the UK folk horror metal band’s upcoming debut album, Aether, which is scheduled to be released in March this year, via Church Road Records.

“Water is a vital part of human existence,” shares vocalist Megan Jenkins about the new single. “With the power to heal, renew and nourish, yet we curse ourselves and the creatures within by not respecting it. We must do more to honour and care for our sacred wells, rivers, lakes and oceans.”

DYING WISH have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘I Brought You My Soul (Your World Brought Me Despair)’, and marks their first new music since their latest studio album, Symptoms Of Survival, which was released back in October 2023, via SharpTone Records. The new single was produced by Will Putney.

Speaking about the new single, vocalist Emma Boster shares, “’I Brought You My Soul…’ is written about being one of many affected by the state of the world we are living in. Constantly witnessing the brutality and injustices has taken a toll on our collective mental health. [The lyric] ‘I am miserable yet I am sane’ references that being impacted by these tragedies happening in Gaza and on our own American soil in fact makes us normal. I fear that one day we will become numb to the events as they become more violent because we are so conditioned to living with it every day.

“This is the first step in the direction of our third LP and the goal from this album is to challenge ourselves to create something different from the first two releases. Throughout the last four years of those records we have dialed in our sound and ethos as a band. We hope that the artwork direction proves as an example that we’re innovating our style to become the most authentic version of DYING WISH.”

Deathless Legacy has released a video for ‘Sanctified’, the third single taken from the new concept album Damnatio Aeterna to be released on March 7 by Scarlet Records.

‘Sanctified’ is about trauma processing and the scars it leaves behind. A transformation of pain into strength, of wounds into perseverance. It speaks of faith shattered, silence endured, and the slow, sacred process of reclaiming oneself through the very marks left by suffering.

Directed by Frater Orion, the video for ‘Sanctified’ conjures a ritualistic portrayal of suffering embraced as a passage to something greater. Through eerie aesthetics and visceral storytelling, it unveils a journey where torment is no longer a weight to bear, but a path to inner awakening. [via Grimm Gent]

German’s Enemy Inside want you to get caught up in the web of metalcore and nu-rock sounds they’ve spun throughout their just-released album, Venom. Coincidentally, the band are preying upon each other like a bunch of headbanging arachnids in the new creature-featuring video for the record’s title track.

The body horror-esque video, which is being premiered through Revolver, was produced by Jonas Sommer and conceived by Enemy Inside vocalist Nastassja Giulia. As the song bounds through a series of compound djent sections and anthemic, Aughts-era nu-metal hooks, Giulia whispers, growls and croons of escaping the grasp of a false friend, and growing into a bold new person.

As that’s all going on, we see various members of Enemy Inside banging through the track in a dank room, though they eventually get tangled up in an overwhelming amount of cobwebs. Then, as if she just found another vial of spider serum hanging around Gremlins 2’s Clamp Center, Giulia starts prowling around the joint as a menacing, multi-legged monster.

“The title track is about toxic people—those who manipulate, mistreat, and drag you down,” the vocalist explained in a statement. “It’s about breaking free, reclaiming your power, and shifting from prey to predator. Every encounter leaves a mark, but instead of letting their ‘venom’ weaken you, it fuels your strength.” [via Revolver]

Huge Hot Milk news! The band have announced their second album Corporation P.O.P, and dropped a brand-new single entitled ’90 Seconds To Midnight’.

The band will be releasing the follow-up to their breakout debut A CALL TO THE VOID on June 27 via Music For Nations, with Jim Shaw describing the record as “a flurry of thoughts, feelings, ramblings from the afters and questions about where we’re at right now in England, the further western world and emotionally.

Get your first taste of all of that with ’90 Seconds To Midnight’, with an accompanying video starring none other than Frank Skinner.

“The Doomsday Clock is nearing midnight and this frantic song sets the mood for the oncoming nuclear winter,” explains Han. “We wanted to punch you proper in the face with this, this balls-to-the-wall little riffy boy comes bounding at you relentlessly.

“Lyrically we took inspiration from 17th century philosopher Rousseau and the poet John Betjemen with his poem Slough. Rousseau set out that humanity would never be free as we create our own shackles. In this case, we’ve created our own demise. Whereas Betjemen’s poem takes this notion of demise and laughs at it, inviting the nukes in ‘come friendly bombs’… Let’s set the gaff on fire and start again.” [via Kerrang!]

South-west UK based alternative outfit ANIIMALIA today announced their new EP CAROUSEL, set for release on April 4 via Marshall Records, and sees the band teaming up once again with renowned producer-engineer Romesh Dodangoda (Bring Me The Horizon, Funeral For A Friend, Nova Twins, Twin Atlantic). The announcement is accompanied by the release of their latest single, ‘PUPPETEER’. “‘Puppeteer’ stands tall as an anthem, resonating with those who have endured the weight of being pushed to their limits,” declares the frontwoman, Kira Beckett. The vocalist candidly unravels the darker threads of the human psyche, spotlighting the haunting thoughts that can accompany prolonged mistreatment. “It explores untethered anger after being walked over for too long, and the dark thoughts that can come with that…” The band sought to craft a dense tapestry of vivid imagery, offering a stark portrayal of the chaos wrought by pent-up anger. ‘Puppeteer’ becomes a chilling reminder that when individuals find themselves pushed beyond their breaking points, they are susceptible to losing grip on reality and spiralling until they snap.

Forward-thinking duo Lake Malice have revealed their reflective new track ‘Eternal December’, which is about profound emotions of homesickness and seasonal depression. It’s inspired by vocalist Alice Guala’s experience of moving countries and having to rebuild meaningful connections in a place which can sometimes feel like an “Eternal December”. Guala and guitarist/co-instigator Blake Cornwall say: “We wrote this song in the wintery months when the rain never stopped and we barely saw the sun. It feels like something everyone can relate to on some level. Our aim has always been to avoid limitations on where we take our music and we’re extremely proud of this multilayered composition which incorporates elements of EDM, hyperpop and metalcore.”

On Friday, Melbourne-based dark folk/blackgaze project SULDUSK celebrated the release of their much-awaited, sophomore studio album, Anthesis, out via Napalm Records. In support of SULDUSK’s critically-acclaimed new album, the Australian act is premiering a music video for their latest haunting single, ‘Mythical Creatures’. Band mastermind Emily Highfield comments: “We are so pleased to finally release Anthesis! This album extends the path laid down by Lunar Falls, but having a full band beside me now emboldened me to be braver in the musical and emotional terrain we explored.” [via Outburn]

Death Dealer Union drops empowering anthem ‘Beyond Heaven’. “Imagine a life where you are shining bright” is the opening lyric on this opus. The video and track feels like the final journey DDU has in store for us.This is the last video in a series of four videos from the debut record Initiation. ‘Beyond Heaven’ is a six minute opus about finding the best version of yourself. It is the last song on the record and it is also the guiding theme throughout the whole album. You’ll notice that the opening track ‘Initiation’ is the piano melody on the beginning of ‘Beyond Heaven.’ CC McKenna says, “The song ‘Beyond Heaven’ is one of my favorites on the record. It was written by myself and two gentlemen named Mark Wenzel, and Keith Wolter along with Lena Scissorhands, and Doug Weiand. The song is really about shedding the darkness that might hold you back or probably better said is that it’s about confronting the darkness within yourself; that you may acknowledge its beauty and move on to the highest version of yourself. All we have to do is collectively believe!… We present to you our final video and single for our first album Initiation.” [via Outburn]

ANA are a suspenseful, mysterious, and soulful symphonic metal band from Melbourne. The band just premiered a new music video and single entitled ‘Ouroboros’. This is the second single and music video taken from their upcoming EP album The Art of Letting Go which is scheduled to be released on March 29 via Eclipse Records. The album was produced by Josh Mak & Anna Khristenko, recorded and mixed by Chris Themelco (Eye of the Enemy, Colour & Shade, Naberus) at Monolith Studios, and mastered by Thomas ‘Plec’ Johansson (Groove Armada, Soilwork, Mayhem) at The Panic Room Studio, and the music video was directed by Aaron Mak. “We wanted the music video for ‘Ouroboros’ to be a statement on our emergence into the music scene as a novel yet experienced and dedicated group of musicians by placing our best foot forward and showing a glimpse of where we plan to go” says lead vocalist Anna Khristenko.
In case you haven’t picked up a copy of Black Metal Rainbows yet, the titular genre has officially moved firmly enough past its homicidal roots in misogyny and transphobia that the current generation of artists feels comfortable leaning into the sounds of its second wave to reclaim them as their own. As one figure in this movement, Erin Dawson has prescribed the term “TWBM”—trans woman black metal—to the music she makes as Genital Shame in response to the long history of acronyms incorporating “national socialist” and other unsavory classifiers. Dawson’s new album Chronic Illness Wish even sees her leaning into the tinny sounds of the genre’s early-’90s era with lead single ‘Schooled in Every Grace’ establishing this sonic palette early on the record before veering into experimental ambiance on the instrumental ‘Hermaphroditic Image’ and hitting the LP’s transcendental peak of ‘Taste Rot’ shortly after (and shouting out Drag Race season 14 contestant Kerri Colby shortly after that). “‘Schooled in Every Grace’ captures the feeling of being pursued by unreasonable, constant guilt from differing sources—a voyeuristic/surveilling presence, god—ultimately leading to something like a conviction in the song’s final moments,” she shares of the track. With the album arriving last Friday via metal newcomers The Garrote, we’re getting an ethereal visual for the track that sees Dawson shredding through the single in front of misty hills before vanishing completely in the clip’s final moments. Check out the video directed by Aziel Mal below. [via FLOOD]

One of the UK heavy music scene’s most exciting prospects – Lake Malice – will release their debut EP Post-Genesis on October 27 via SO Recordings (Enter Shikari / Placebo / Deaf Havana). Alice Guala (vocals) and Blake Cornwall (guitar / production) explain of the EP’s lead single: “‘Mitsuko’ is a deeply personal and intense torrent of ‘full-on rage’, dealing with the complexities of family values, and raw emotions of a fragmented childhood. The title takes inspiration from the original ‘Battle Royale’ manga, where the character Mitsuko shares a similar struggle of family heartbreak and abandonment.”

Hearts & Hand Grenades are an explosive American hard rock group from Buffalo, NY, bursting with an edgy sound for all generations of true rock addicts, and they just premiered a new music video and single entitled ‘Burn (By My Fire)’. The music video was directed by Nick Sonricker. “With our first single off the new album being such a powerful track, we wanted the video to make an impact” says lead vocalist and bassist Stephanie Wlosinski, “so we felt what better way to launch our third full length album than arriving back on the scene with raging fire, which also symbolizes that the band is here to stay!” Guitarist Mike Bress continues, “This was a challenging shoot for us because we never shot a music video synced with another video on a giant screen before. It was a very interesting process of bringing it to life, and our director Nick Sonricker was fantastic to work with. He came up with some great ideas to make the video pop? We did the shoot at The Palace Theater in Hamburg, NY but we had numerous technical difficulties playing along with the video on the big screen. It was dark in the room, and we almost fell off the stage a couple of times. The stage lights were also very difficult to work with because they were so bright that they were blinding. This also caused the temperature in the room to increase drastically. We lost a few pounds of water weight during the shoot as a result, but Nick took extra measures to keep us safe, and despite the dangers he was able to make sure the end result was all worth it!”

Massive Scar Era, the brainchild of visionary artist Cherine Amr, is proud to announce the upcoming release of their highly anticipated seventh release, an EP, Metal Goes Egyptian, which is coming out in November. Known for pushing the boundaries of music and blending genres, Massive Scar Era is set to captivate audiences once again with its unique fusion of progressive rock, post-grunge, Egyptian music, and metal. The second single is ‘Between Waves’, which Amr comments on: “’Between the Waves’ was the first song that we worked on. It’s one of the oldest songs for MSE that wasn’t released digitally. In this song’s intro, a heavy riff is playing in the background, consisting of just two notes. Weka was free to incorporate the Hijaz scale without constraints, and he used maqam kord as a secondary “gens,” a modern approach to this maqam. That’s how the song began. As the song progresses, it transitions into a new section with modulation on the G note, leading into maqam Rust. Finally, the ending of the intro (“Taslim” in Arabic) concludes with a return to the Hijaz scale, creating a glamorous ending. I wrote this song when I was very young. It was even before I moved to Cairo in 2009. I was still in the process of discovering myself as a person before a lyricist and a songwriter. While I don’t resonate with the lyrics anymore, singing this song again reminded me of an entire lifetime.”

With all guns loaded, the fierce ladies fire their first shot today with the release of the single, ‘S.E.X.’, centered around lead singer Kristina Vega’s skillful, powerful sky-high vocals climaxing in a stunning guitar solo by guitar hero Sonia Anubis. Cobra Spell on ‘S.E.X.’: “We are excited to share with you the sleaziest track of our upcoming album 666.
Swedish six-piece, Amaranthe, reach for the stars and launch their art even higher – into space, to be precise – with the release of the new single, ‘Insatiable’. Delivering an extraterrestrial late summer banger, Amaranthe once again demonstrates their versatility, and the six-piece succeeds in keeping the world on their toes with their ongoing, high-quality output. Amaranthe’s Olof Mörck states: “As the release of The Catalyst draws ever nearer, we are now very proud and super excited to unveil the second single from the album – ‘Insatiable’! Contrasts collide like a cataclysm in this ultra-heavy, yet outstandingly catchy groove-monster, which bears all the hallmarks of a classic Amaranthe hit, and then some! We once again teamed up with long-time collaborator and director extraordinaire Patric Ullaeus, for an all-out, take-no-prisoners video to go along with the song. Beyond that, this is a song you will NEED to hear live on our upcoming tour with our friends in DragonForce in the USA, so remember to practice those lyrics! And see you all soon!”. ‘Insatiable’ is the second single from Amaranthe’s forthcoming album The Catalyst, that will see the light of the day on February 23 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Leeds outfit Artio are on typically incendiary form on their latest single ‘Wallflower’, bringing their explosive cocktail of noise from the offset on their latest creative and energetic new release. The band have made these feats of creativity and sheer energy feel somewhat pedestrian as of late, thanks to the sheer consistency and strength of their output, making a claim the title of the most exciting emerging band in the UK right now. ‘Wallflower’ explores the theme of protecting yourself from toxic relationships and the harm that people try to cause you, and the sheer force and power of the sound does a great job of reinforcing this sense of defiance and refusal to be manipulated. The way that Artio continue to feel both so experimental and unique while having such an intoxicatingly catchy, powerful feel is admirable to say the least, this new release just feels like another brick on the band’s path to huge, insurmountable heights.
NERVOSA have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Elements Of Sin’, is taken from the death/thrash metal band’s new album, Jailbreak, which is out now. Speaking about the new song, vocalist/guitarist Prika Amaral says, “’Elements Of Sin’ was one of the first songs that me and Helena composed together. I remember when the riff from the chorus came at the end of 2021 and the lyrics of the chorus came together. We were so excited with this song that we also composed a few parts of the drums at that time. The process of composing of this album was very fun.” [via Metal Planet]

Dying Wish have released the latest track from their excellent forthcoming Symptoms Of Survival album, ‘Path To Your Grave’. The song finds the U.S. hardcore heavyists revisiting the themes of 2021’s Fragments Of A Bitter Memory, and looking at the personal journey along the hurt at the centre of the two songs. “‘Path To Your Grave’ was written in mind as Fragments… Part Two,” says singer Emma Boster. “Fragments was written about the struggle of my relationship with my stepfather, who was manipulative, controlling, and abusive towards me. That mistreatment has resulted in a lot of unhealthy habits and patterns in my life that I have struggled to move on from. Fragments… was me talking about my experience publicly for the first time,” she continues. “After expressing my grief, the song concludes with ‘I would bury you if I could.’ This song also concludes with the same seven words but has a different outlook. Since releasing Fragments, I have grown to a new level of acceptance with my trauma, and this song is about that acceptance. The anger and the hurt is still there, but now, it just stings a little less. It has a much more triumphant expression.” [via Kerrang!]

As vocalist Sharon den Adel explains. “It’s a fun track about seduction, about the lady taking power in a male dominated world and taking her own initiative.” The song is inspired by the iconic Quentin Tarantino movie From Dusk Til Dawn, about a seemingly normal road trip turning into a vampire slayer party.
Rock band New Years Day has shared their new single, ‘Vampyre.’ A ferocious and haunting track – just in time for the scariest time of the year – ‘Vampyre’ serves as a follow up to last year’s ‘Hurts Like Hell.’ On the new single, vocalist Ash Costello shares: “‘Vampyre’ is a song for anyone who has battled or is battling a malignant narcissist, which, essentially, is a certain kind of person who tries to suck the life out of you. Since I have personally experienced living with this type of monster, I wanted to write a song specifically for anyone else going thru something similar in hopes it may help them discover some strength or help give them power to overcome it. So this is a song for anyone who has dealt with this type of person. It insists, ‘You’re not going to drain the life from me.’” [via Outburn]

Beside gothic beauty and metallic darkness there is much more to explore on this fantastic album. This and so much more for you to discover on ‘A Dark Euphony’. We’ve had the pleasure of working with producer and musical genius Joost van den Broek, and we gave it our all to write this record and feel that this is our most complete, personal, and mature album to date.” Watch a video for new single ‘Spirit Of Forgetfulness’ below.
Conquer Divide have just announced their new album. Slow Burn will arrive September 8 via Mascot Records. The band — vocalist Kiarely Taylor, bassist/vocalist Janel Duarte, guitarist Isabel Johnson, drummer Samantha Landa, and guitarist Kristen Sturgis— has also shared the video for new single ‘welcome2paradise.’ And it lets out a thunderous roar. “This song is special to all of us for a lot of reasons,” says Sturgis. “We really wanted to stretch our musical muscles and play around with time signatures. We recorded some of the production ourselves, including drilling sounds you’ll hear sprinkled throughout the song. Artistically, we really stepped out of our comfort zone, and we ended up with something really special.” The song also takes a close look at a very important topical issue. “It’s sad that humans don’t care about our environment,” Sturgis continues. “I was especially inspired by a situation close to my heart. I live on the Great Lakes, which contain 20% of the earth’s freshwater. There is a 70-year-old pipeline called Line 5 that is in very rough shape and runs through the water where Lake Huron and Lake Michigan meet. The current is especially turbulent there. The pipeline keeps getting hit by boat anchors. I am not here to preach anti-fossil fuels, as electric vehicles come with their own environmental tolls, and touring bands have to drive gas-guzzling vehicles to play for our fans. But if a spill happened in that spot, it’s in the worst possible place, due to the strong currents. A Great Lakes spill could affect major cities like Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Windsor, Toronto, and Rochester, NY. Tourism, fishing industries, and boating would all be affected. And with all of the droughts happening around the U.S., it’s going to be everyone’s problem soon. Right now, there’s just one small local organization trying to draw attention to it, but If I can do anything with this song release, it would be to shine a spotlight on something I care so much about.”

Belle Morte’s newest single called ‘Blame Me’ is a unique blend of symphonic metal, Armenian duduk, and blues influences. It develops the band’s international collaborative series even further, becoming the fourth song with guest musicians. With ‘Blame Me,’ the band explores the concept of intense emotions and feelings of guilt. The mournful notes of the Armenian duduk, played by Lernik Khachatrian, evoke the sense of emptiness and longing that can be found in the barren deserts.

Lake Malice continue their streak of innovatively heavy alt-anthems with new single ‘Bloodbath’ which is self-released by the Brighton-based duo. ‘Bloodbath’ is lyrically descriptive of abusive and controlling relationships, acting as a rallying cry against being stuck in that spiral of abuse. Vocalist Alice Guala says “’Bloodbath’ carries a potent message about the perils of abusive relationships and explores the painful and all too common experience of feeling trapped with a controlling partner. This song is an anthem for anyone who has ever felt trapped and alone.” Alice shifts seamlessly between pure soaring melodies and guttural screams as she flexes her vocal prowess throughout ‘Bloodbath’. This duality is mirrored in the music video which glitches between two different Alices and takes inspiration from cyberpunk classics like ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘The Fifth Element’.

MODERN MIMES, the alternative heavy rock outfit from South Florida have just unleashed their new single ‘Heavy Heart’. Following their latest single ‘Down and Dead’, ‘Heavy Heart’ ventures into darker realms. Heavy distortion, dynamic electronics and stunning vocals combine to create a thrilling and powerful offering. The band say: “We aren’t saints. We aren’t prophets. We are simply emphatic people with an ear to the whispers of the future. When the waves of messages come, we put it into songs and let the spirits guide us. We stand for strength, grounding, magic, becoming, expansion; opening the doors to your own portals. We are MODERN MIMES”.

UK mathcore trio Pupil Slicer have leveled up big time on their sophomore album, Blossom, expanding on the head-spinning sound of their 2021 debut, Mirrors, with elements of grunge, shoegaze, electronic music and more. So far, fans have gotten to hear the LP’s alt-rock-inflected title track, the much heavier rager ‘No Temple’ and the fiery, dynamic new single ‘Momentary Actuality.’ The song arrived accompanied by a cinematic music video that continues Blossom’s cosmic horror rock opera storyline. Watch and listen above. Pupil Slicer commented in a joint statement: “‘Momentary Actuality’ serves as the starting point for the story of Blossom and also encapsulates a musical mission statement for the album, the song encompasses a broad range of styles that are found on the rest of Blossom. This song really showcases our progression as musicians on a technical as well as compositional level, with a lot of care taken to craft a very satisfying structure to the over-the-top riffs and breakdowns we’ve come to be known for.” [via Revolver]

All the world’s a stage, and Melbourne chaotic metalcore outfit The Last Martyr take their place atop theirs with new single ‘Comedy/Tragedy’. ‘Comedy/Tragedy’ is a bold, sassy new offering that mixes fierce electronic elements with heavy foundations and pop flare, produced by Chris Lalic (Windwaker). The track is about faking happiness while you’re fully aware that everything around you is burning. “So many of us wear a mask or play a character in our everyday lives and in a lot of ways, it helps us,” explains vocalist Monica Strut. “But there comes a point where being incongruent with your true self, or ignoring certain negative aspects of our lives starts to take a huge toll. The song is written from the perspective of being aware that something is wrong but not wanting to admit it yet. It’s sarcastic, angry and just a little unhinged.” The song moves through theatrical moments that contrast the manic highs with the diving lows, showcasing Struts lacerating screams. The swirling instrumentals compliment the sentiments of the lyrics, echoing the metaphor of the carousel spinning around in a cycle of denial. [via Everblack]

Montreal, QC’s Sanguine Glacialis (ft. members of Valfreya, the Growlers Choir, The Monster Factory) have revealed the first single ‘Welcome’ from their forthcoming album Maladaptive Daydreaming planned for release later this year to follow the band’s 2018 record Hadopelagic. Influenced by a vast array of musical styles such as jazz, classical, folk, symphonic, death, and black metal, the new full-length is a concept record about mental illness and an imaginary world that lives in the head of its main character, a subject that opens the door to many, many different ideas on the album. ‘Welcome’ is a track with many different surprises and invited guests. It sets the world in which the concept record takes place. It’s the perfect representation of what’s to come from their new album Maladaptive Daydreaming. The single starts with a clean intro with the violin, then switches to a catchy gang vocals chorus. There’s a saxophone and a guitar solo, and it ends with a brutal breakdown. “‘Welcome ‘ is about the imaginary world calling for the lead character, but that world is not as fun and fulfilling as it may seem,” says Maude Théberge (Vocals, Keyboard & Violin).

Newfoundland, Canada’s CATEGORY VI will be releasing their new album Firecry toward the end of March via Moribund Records, and in lead up to it earworming its way to fans along with celebrating International Women’s Day that passed earlier this week, the quartet is sharing their next single ‘Valkyries’. “This song is about sexism and misogyny and my own personal experiences with this. Being told to shut up my whole life backfired.
LAKE MALICE have released a new music video. The new music video, for the tack ‘Stop The Party’, is the brand new single from the alt metal duo and follows on from their previous single, ‘Black Turbine’, which was released in November last year. The new song was produced and mixed by Grammy Award-nominated producer Romesh Dodangoda [BRING ME THE HORIZON, NOVA TWINS, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE]. The new single intends to reflect vocalist Alice Guala’s experience dealing with social anxiety and depression in a post-pandemic world. “When things went back to normal, I felt like there was a veiled expectation for people to catch-up on social events – from birthday parties to gigs and festivals,” she explains. “As a person who suffered with anxiety and depression most of her adult life, it was extremely difficult to switch my social skills back on, and that’s when my depression reached its lowest points (hence wanting to “stop the party”, where the party represents life).” The zombie-riddled music video which accompanies the track was inspired by The Last Of Us, as the series started airing when the band were putting together the storyboard for the clip. Guala says, “we knew we wanted the video to be a party, but then we added the zombie element to represent that feeling of unease and anxiety you can easily get, being in a social setting. So yeah, it turned out to be a zombie party.” [via Distorted Sound]
