Following up on the widely acclaimed release of ‘Comfort Zone’, the brand-new single by the Danish-Corsican singer is out today. It was as if ‘Small Talk’ existed beforehand. It was an atmosphere that immediately arose and bloomed, like infatuation and fascination can do between people. That is why MALU has left the song as pure as its starting point, wrapped in fragile, airy choir voices and evoking strings, but honest, as it was created by the piano.

“It was a gray, rainy and windy day in Copenhagen. Me and my good friend Mads Bramstoft (producer) were sitting in his flat having a deep talk about how relationships come and go in life. As we sat down by the piano, Mads began jamming a few chords and when I started humming, it was like the song just happened out of nowhere,” MALU says and continues:

“‘Small Talk’ is about the heartbreakingly familiar aftermath of a relationship, and the realization that the people we once held close can become distant and unfamiliar to us when a relationship comes to an end. It’s a story that resonates with anyone who has experienced heartbreak, and I hope listeners will find solace in the shared experience.”

As MALU explains, ”Life is unpredictable. It’s full of surprises, people, experiences and moments that you never saw coming. The uncertainty about what’s to come can be frightening or even make you anxious and to some it helps to know what tomorrow or next week brings or even just what is going to happen in the movie you’re watching on Netflix. I’ve lived like that for years –safe and in control -but looking back, I never gave myself a chance to grow or develop, always living in my comfort zone.”

Like most of us, MALU has never been a big fan of change. However, it got to a point where the singer realized that a life of predictability would be the end of her – and so, MALU’s relationship of more than 7 years ended and she dropped her full-time studies to pursue music and be her true self.

”Since I was a little girl, even the most insignificant bumps on the road havefelt like standing at a crossroads. I’ve always wanted life to follow this straight path,when actually it’s all the detours, twists and turns that make it fun and spontaneous. I bloom through music; it givesme the strength to sing my way out ofmyidentity crisisand develop as a singer but also as a human being.‘Comfort Zone’ tells my story –but I know it reflects a story of many,”MALU tells.
