‘You Have a Way’ explores Megan’s bitterness that has developed from choosing not to come out. The track explores a toxic dynamic between two people who know they deserve better and is influenced by Fleetwood Mac, Simon and Garfunkel, and Mazzy Star.

Set in the mid-70’s, ‘You Have a Way’ is the follow up to the lead single, ‘Clementine’ of Black’s upcoming album – the track captures Megan’s life where being authentic didn’t feel like an option. The marriage is between Megan and the character of her ‘husband’ – performed by Shaz of Edinburgh’s very own Thundermoon. ‘You Have a Way’ captures Megan at her current age of 26 – living married life in the 70’s and showcases the bitter resentment and longing for something different.

Reflecting on the songwriting process, the Edinburgh-based performer says: “We’re taught from a very young age that women should compete with one another – you have to be prettier, smarter, funnier, more talented. I wanted to use this song to spread the message that we don’t need to fight against each other. The women in my life bring me more strength, wisdom, and love than I could ever begin to describe. There is so much power in us coming together.”

She adds: “This song is for everyone who has experienced this in any way. You don’t have to identify as a woman to know the power of womanhood and feel part of it. This is not an attack, it’s a wake-up call”.

Furthermore, Megan has taken a collaborative approach to ‘MOTHER. SISTER. LOVER.’ By inviting women and people who resonate with the lyrics to showcase their voices on the track, this new single emphasizes the power that can be harnessed when voices unite to challenge societal norms and inspire positive change.

Produced by Mark Morrow (Vistas, swim school, Wrest), ‘Just For Fun’ showcases Megan’s ability to expertly weave her own experiences of sexuality and mental health through a beguiling culmination of rock, blues and jazz, resulting in a remarkably rich and assured sound.

“I find comfort in my own pain, and freedom in the mess I’ve made,” Megan sings, pitting punchy instrumentation and infectious melodies against disarmingly honest lyricism as she explores the ways in which we can become accustomed to living with pain inflicted by trauma.

Speaking on the single, Megan said: “The song is about being comfortable with trauma. Most of mine comes from things that people consider ‘fun’ such as sex and relationships. ‘Just For Fun’ is about how we can become so used to pain that we begin to live in a cycle of being self-destructive.”
