If you’re looking for a folk metal song to get stuck deep within the crevaces of your brain today, look no further than Eluveitie‘s new single ‘The Prodigal Ones’. It’s heavy, it’s got a catchy chorus, and it’s actually got a pretty beefy breakdown in the second half. What’s not to love? ‘The Prodigal Ones’ comes from Eluveitie’s upcoming record Ànv, due out March 25.

“Hard to express how excited we are to share this one with you all!” wrote Eluveitie frontman Chrigel Glanzmann. “Musically combining the heavy pounding Elu classics like ‘Luxtos’, ‘Inis Mona’ or even ‘King’ with some new, maybe unexpected ideas, we feel that this song most of all comes like a punch in the face and we hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do! Lyrically it actually opens the big theme of ANV – these ancient words, several thousands of years old, our upcoming album is based on…” [via Metal Injection]

UK metalcore favourites Employed To Serve have unleashed an absolute worldie of a new single, the first from newly announced fifth studio album Fallen Star. The single, titled ‘Atonement,’ continues the ongoing evolution of Woking’s finest, merging chunky metal grooves with scraping hardcore riffs and a big, old school heavy metal guitar solo. It also features a surprising cameo from Lorna Shore frontman Will Ramos, who initially arrives on the scene to dish out some of his trademark, gnarled growling vocals before making a shocking about-turn by actually singing the track’s super-catchy chorus.

“’Atonement’ takes aim at those who try to lord their power over you. The only way to defeat these people is by rising above their behaviour and pushing forward on your own path,” explains guitarist Sammy Urwin. “We wanted to lead with this single because it is the track that encompasses the ethos of Employed to Serve as a whole. We’re strong believers of working hard and not letting life and the negative people in it affect your goals and aspirations.”

The video for ‘Atonement’ pays tribute to the (inferior but still very good, let’s be honest) US version of The Office, having actually been filmed in the sitcom’s home of Scranton, PA. “The studio was a shrine to the show, and Dwight, which was fun to explore in between filming!” says Employed To Serve vocalist Justine Jones. “We wanted to portray someone in power/authority trying to wear down their captive through aggression. I found it very hard to keep a straight face while choking out Sammy; by take fifteen or so I got more into it as the jetlag and hot weather made me feel more unhinged.” [via Louder]

Pop metal band Memoremains turns their eyes towards the next full-length album! The album, which will be released later this year, is the band’s third album, and the singles ‘Fighter,’ ‘Stuck’ and ‘Toxic Girl’ have already been released. According to the band, ‘Stand Up’, out now, is a full-fledged party song.

“With this song, we really applied for this year’s UMK – as well as with the previously released song ‘Fighter’. This was our number one choice. UMK will have great artists again this year, and cheers to them for this year’s show! We have fun and cheer in the homestand. UMK is a really cool competition anyway. In recent years, they have produced high-quality video productions and invested in the storytelling of the competition. It’s appealing – it’s interesting to follow more than just music,” says Memoremains.

The song’s lyricist, singer Johanna Ahonen, hints that the ‘Stand Up’ single is perfect for weekend getaways, for example. “As a composition, I think ‘Stand Up’ is a full-blooded party song, and I wanted to bring a positive, uplifting feeling to the lyrics as well. The atmosphere is playful and even a bit mischievous, just like the guy who forces you to dance just when you wouldn’t dare to leave. Everyone needs a little break from time to time, and Stand Up on a turntable offers a great opportunity for that!” [via Grimm Gent]

Mexican-American alt-rock singer-songwriter VIOLENT VIRA returns with a new song ‘Saccharine’. The song is her first music in two years since the 2023 single ‘Blood on the Sheets’. The track will appear on he upcoming debut album. Also, it is the first release under her new label Mom+Pop.

The track was written by Amy J Gonzalez, Anthony Brown, Matthew Bolling, Nathan Veldman, and Jennifer Decilveo who also produced it. The accompanying music video was directed by Dylan Cole.

VIOLENT VIRA said of the song, “’Saccharine’ is the sickening torment inside of the mind of those who are too sweet along with the never-ending need for validation, a lack of boundaries, the despair for approval. It’s an internal war with a pervasive feeling of inadequacy. Fawning with sugar-coated sweetness, meant to cover the decay from within.” [via pm studio]

Finnish melodic metal band Unén share their new single ‘In My Bones’ via Frontiers Music Srl. Singer Stina Girs describes the new single, by saying: “’In My Bones’ tells what it feels like to be in a relationship with a narcissistic manipulator. When you love someone who exploits your love and trust, does terrible things, and even turns you against other people you care about. All of this leaves scars that linger beneath the surface for years, and the anger from it feels deep in your bones.”

Brighton-based metal four-piece KNIFE BRIDE have released a killer new single ‘TERRITORY’, as they gear up to head off on tour around the UK with Defects and Profiler later this month. Influenced by the likes of Bring Me The Horizon, Spiritbox and Evanescence, ‘TERRITORY’ brings frontwoman Mollie Clack’s impassioned and compelling vocal to the fore. Mollie says “’Territory’ is a love song, believe it or not. It was written after a hostile exchange and I see it as a kind of diary entry, I guess. It’s very dramatic and purging and really highlights how crazy love can make you.”

Jinjer have announced their upcoming fifth album, Duél, and offered up a new song, the haunting ‘Kafka.’ In contrast to preceding singles ‘Rogue’ and ‘Someone’s Daughter,’ which lean into the Ukrainian band’s heavier, djent-ier inclinations, the latest cut is a slower-burning power ballad — though it does ultimately erupt into crushing riffery and roaring vocals, the latter of courtesy of powerhouse vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk. The song arrived along with a striking video featuring artwork and animation by Oleksii Zatserkovnyi. Shmayluk commented of ‘Kafka’: “Being an artist is sometimes beautiful but most of the time it’s brutal… as our art is dissected word for word and ripped apart note by note, we‘re expected to be on point all-the-time … and when we aren’t, we are scandalized. A true artist is vulnerable but the crowd is most often plagued with vultures who pick at every single move you make. It’s a slippery slope when music means the world to us but how quickly praise turns into prosecution… We are all Kings and Queens for a day but most of the time it feels like a Kafka novel for a lifetime. It‘s exciting but surreal and absurd at the same time.” [via Revolver]

LEAGUE OF DISTORTION have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Crucify Me’, is taken from the German modern metal band’s new album, Galvanize, which is out now via Napalm Records. Speaking about the new song, the band shares, “’Crucify Me’ deals with the rise of artificial intelligence, written from the perspective of an AI that has outgrown its creators. It reflects humanity’s helplessness and inevitable inferiority in the face of this rapidly evolving force. The song is a bold statement on a pressing issue, exploring the unsettling realization that what we create might one day surpass and dominate us or maybe it has already.” [via Distorted Sound]

Melodic extreme-metal band Vintersea has revealed their first single, ‘Celestial Abscission,’ with newly announced singer Kayla Dixon (Witch Mountain, Dress The Dead). The fiery new track ushers in a new chapter for the band as they continue their quest of global domination. Commenting on the new single Dixon says: “Abscission means to detach. Romain Rolland, in his letter to good friend Sigmund Freud, described a new discovery of his via his recent meditations-‘A feeling as of something limitless, unbounded, as it were-oceanic’. This quote felt perfect to include as in interlude before the song kicks in hard. The purpose of this song is to bring the topic of spiritual narcissism up for discussion. Recurring themes of ego and ego death (or abscission) have been ever present in my life. My aim with these lyrics is to expose and discuss the misuse of the word “ego” and to shed light on how easily this word can be thrown around and used to infiltrate the minds of the already humble, stripping away what little self-esteem they had left. Does carrying an oceanic feeling of detachment from day to day life and an awareness of our ultimate mortality advance us as individuals and as a society at large? Or is this one cause of the apathy we see in the world? …and what does your ego-self have to say about it?” [via Brave New Words]

Floridian melodic metalcore band Not Enough Space have signed with Thriller Records. The below music video for their newest single ‘Primitive’ is the first offering via this new partnership, with the band commenting: “We are excited to announce that we are dropping our newest single ‘Primitive’! We have worked so hard on this song and hope that you all enjoy it! This is our first single in a year and we have a lot of amazing things coming behind the scenes that we can’t wait to share with you!! Thank you all so much for the love and support!! See you soon!!” Co-vocalist Lizzie Raatma added: “‘Primitive‘ is about feeling trapped in a toxic relationship with a significant other. Both parties feel that they cannot leave because they’re holding onto memories and their false sense of hope that maybe one day things will get better.” [via the PRP]

ENTHEOS have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Return To Me’, is taken from the American progressive death metal band’s new EP, An End To Everything, which was released on Friday, via Metal Blade Records. Speaking about the new song, vocalist Chaney Crabb says, “lyrically,’Return To Me’ is a song about the anxiety of watching someone that you love throw their life away while also gaining the perspective that no matter how our lives are lived, we will all inevitably face death. Musically, the simple melodic idea in the intro is what spawned this entire song. We really wanted this song to have a dark, almost black metal vibe while still maintaining our own heavy and progressive spin.” [via Distorted Sound]

ENEMY INSIDE have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Fuck That Party’, is the brand new single from the German alternative/symphonic metal band and follows on from their previous single, ‘Should Have Known Better’, which was released last month. The new single was once again mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek of ANNISOKAY (Sawdust Recordings) and its accompanying music video was produced by the group’s loyal companion Jonas Sommer. It’s based on a concept and story written by creative frontwoman Nastassja Giulia, and takes fans to the band’s own chamber of horrors. Speaking about the new song and its accompanying music video, the band shares, “’Fuck That Party’ featuring Zak Tell from CLAWFINGER brings nu and modern metal together. The Halloween themed party song comes with a fun video but a deep meaning. It’s about growing old and looking back nostalgically at the times gone by. It’s a reminder that life is short, so enjoy every moment of your life no matter what others think and fill it with things that make you happy!” [via Distorted Sound]

RedHook have given fans another glimpse of their upcoming new album with the snarling ‘Bomb.com’. With Mutation set for release on November 22, the track arrives ahead of their swiftly approaching UK dates with Dream State. Speaking on ‘Bomb.com’, vocalist Emmy Mack has shared: “‘Bomb.com’ is basically just a big fun diss track about an egomaniacal dude in the music industry who likes to talk a lot of shit, particularly about female-fronted bands. Lame AF behaviour that we felt compelled to take the living piss out of. Craig also added these really sick synths for extra hype that were inspired by that song ‘Like A G6’. This one’s gonna be so much fun to play live!” [via Rock Sound]

Finnish band Memoremains drop a new song on the airwaves. The five-piece has already released the singles ‘Toxic Girl’ and ‘Stuck’ earlier this year, but the recently released ‘Fighter’ is a bit different. “Compared to previous singles, ‘Fighter’ is a bit deeper and more atmospheric. As for the vocals, we also searched for new sounds to emphasize the nuances of the composition. In the lyrics, I wanted to deal with friendship and a situation where a loved one is in a challenging place in their life and needs support in making difficult choices. If only the song would bring a touch of hope to the gloom of autumn for the listeners as well !” singer Johanna Ahonen states. The song was also made into a music video with the help of a well-known author. “Aarni Visuals made a music video for us from our 2022 Nummirock show recording for the single ‘Empire’ from the album Pop Metal, and we remembered how efficient he worked and how good the result was. We asked him about his interest in making the music video for ‘Fighter’, and luckily he agreed to cooperate. In our opinion, the musicvideo conveys the new visual look of the band and the atmosphere of the song, which is sensitive and dramatic at the same time.” [via The Offering Webzine]

Rising phenom Amira Elfeky has a gravely booming nu-gaze single to get us through the spooky season. Filled with a mix of goth-romantic bleakness, detuned guitar melancholy and heavy existential dread, her latest track is fittingly titled ‘Will You Love Me When I’m Dead.’ The single marks Elfeky’s first release since last June’s ‘Remains of Us’ collaboration with Scarlet House. This time around, the Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter teamed-up with producers/musicians Zakk Cervini and Andrew Goldstein to drill into this dark-edged, but dreamy piece. ‘Will You Love Me When I’m Dead’ bounces between a driving, early Deftones-like groove, some lightly twitching electronica, and a gravesite disturbing breakdown finale. Lyrically, Elfeky whispers and soars through emotions-draining relationship drama (“You tasted like honey / So sweet when you stung me”), the frustration of putting in more than you’re getting back (“Every bone I break for you…will never be enough”) and more.
The new year introduced a new era for RinRin, and ‘FCKNRUN’ is the third offering in the new narrative, and the third in a string of fantasy-fuelled releases. Previous singles ‘im sad lol’ and ‘PRN’ explored the dystopian and fictional story of Rin, based on real life – a multiverse where ‘variants’ of RinRin reside in alternate worlds, leading different lives that reflect true feelings. The latest offering, ‘FCKNRUN,’ represents a version of RinRin that sees her take on the role of serial casanova, where attachment is her greatest enemy. The song oozes confidence, traversing through self assured verses with driving undertones before a vulnerable and emotive outro pairs lyrically with traces of guilt. [via Heavy]

Naarm/Melbourne’s The Last Martyr have just dropped EP Requiem, packed with soaring, soul-stirring metal. Mixed by Chris Lalic (Windwaker, Days Like These), it’s an explosive collection, an apocalyptic exploration of what happens when we disrespect and disregard Mother Nature. Frontwoman Monica Strut explains: “The Requiem EP is about the human species’ journey towards, throughout and after the apocalypse. It touches on themes of denial, destruction, control, fear, love and more. Each song stands alone with its own story but is brought together by this overarching theme.” ‘Critical Mass’ is described by Strut as the crossroads before the end of the world. Listen below. The band’s highly anticipated album, Veni Vidi Delevi, is set to obliterate the senses on September 20. Check out the video for ‘My Only Solace’ below.

Rockshots Records and Lay Of The Autumn are excited to announce the release of their second single, ‘Flowing Tears’ from their highly anticipated album Of Love And Sorrow due out on October 25. Lay Of The Autumn is a new Symphonic Power Metal band led by Davide Scuteri (Ravenword, Choirs Of Veritas) featuring Iryna Boyarkina (ERIA, Mysterya), Michele Olmi (Chronosfear, Embrace Of Souls), Cesare Ferrari and Davide Lovecchio. Their debut album, featuring 10 emotionally charged tracks, merges the intensity of Power Metal with the grandeur of Symphonic Metal creating a deeply evocative listening experience. ‘Flowing Tears’ is a standout piece that encapsulates the full spectrum of the band’s sound, blending sorrow with beauty in a way that is uniquely Lay Of The Autumn.

Two years since the release of their last studio album Black & Gold, the Swedish quartet Thundermother reveal the first details surrounding their upcoming new studio album titled, Dirty & Divine. It is slated for release on February 7, 2025 via AFM Records. A blistering onslaught of loud, proud and gritty hard rock, Dirty & Divine marks the start of a new era for Thundermother. This album showcases the Thundermother recording debut for both frontwoman Linnea Vikström Egg and for drummer Joan Massing. Dirty & Divine also welcomes bassist Majsan Lindberg back into the fold. Bigger, bolder and more dynamic than ever before, the Swedes return as an upgraded and remotivated force! Now the rock goddesses unleash a new music video for their latest single, the anthemic album opener: ‘So Close.’ Guitarist and founding member Filippa Nässil reveals: “‘So Close’ was so close to not being included on the album. But when we recorded it live in the studio after all the other songs were done, it turned out so well that it made it across the finish line. It seems we might have stumbled upon a hit.”

Delain have just released a new single and video, ‘Dance With The Devil,’ following last year’s Dark Waters album. The song is the title-track from an upcoming EP – due out on November 8 via Napalm – which also includes two more new songs, two ‘newly-presented favourites’ with their latest band line-up, nine live tracks and two instrumentals. “We’re thrilled to have brand new material ready to be released!” enthuses Martijn Westerholt. “In addition to the new songs, it was fantastic to have captured some magical live moments of our European tour earlier this year as live tracks for the EP. We’re definitely very excited for this release and are really looking forward to bringing the new music to the stage!” Martijn also shares of their newest single: “We’re really excited and eager to share this new Delain song with the world. It captures the recognisable and signature sound of Delain but with a fresh and modern touch.” [via Kerrang!]

ENTHEOS have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘A Thousand Days,’ is taken from the American progressive death metal band’s upcoming new EP, An End To Everything, which is scheduled to be released in October this year, via Metal Blade Records. Speaking about the new single, vocalist Chaney Crabb says, “lyrically, ‘A Thousand Days’ is a song about feeling as if you‘re on the edge of life and death. In writing ‘A Thousand Days’, we wanted to focus on a more ‘mellow’ death metal vibe and simultaneously incorporate some elements of grunge and pitched screaming in the chorus.” [via Distorted Sound]

Beyond the Pale, the death/thrash metal outfit from the Netherlands with a pinch of black, and brimmed with soul-purging riffs, is unstoppable. The band just dropped a new music video, this time filled with feisty pirates for the track ‘Walk the Plank’. Following ‘The Age of the Pariah,’ ‘Storm en Drift’ and the remix for ‘Facts and Figures’ by acclaimed Japanese musician Frost (Gods of Decay; Godfrost), ‘Walk the Plank’ is the fourth single released by Beyond The Pale from their debut EP Monument in Time. ‘Walk the Plank’ depicts a narrative of rebellion and resistance against a corrupt and oppressive authority, particularly targeting women. The lyrics describe the struggles of those trapped in a system dominated by unfair and unjust individuals. ‘Walk the Plank’ is a powerful call for resistance and (female) empowerment, with individuals standing up to their oppressors. The pirates symbolize their fighting spirit and determination to reclaim control of their own destiny. [via Click Roll Boom]

After teasing the single for a little while now, Hot Milk have just shared their vulnerable, standalone new song and video, ‘Where Does The Light Get In?’. The track is the band’s first new music since last year’s A CALL TO THE VOID, with Han Mee describing it as “its own beast that came from a place of great torment and suffering. Matters of the heart are rarely touched by our band but after the last year put me into a place I never wish to return I couldn’t not write this song. It was a necessity.” “Sadness doesn’t last forever, but when it consumes you it feels like it’s there for eternity,” adds Jim Shaw. “Essentially this song is a cry out for a change in circumstances. It’s hard seeing someone close to you in pain and feeling powerless to change it. I wanted to exacerbate the vulnerability of this song so I began as stripped back as I could, me and a piano, and played what you can hear as soon as the song starts. We wanted the lyrics to come across almost like a prayer so we brought in the girls in Espera to record a choir and act as the response in the chorus.” [via Kerrang!]

Following some online teasing, Spiritbox have just shared their first new music of 2024 Entitled ‘Soft Spine,’ this genuinely crushing new track from the Canadian metalcore crew follows last year’s The Fear Of Fear EP – and is potentially a very exciting hint at their long-awaited second album… Who knows?
Memoremains releases new music. In the spring, the single ‘Toxic Girl’ opened a new era for Memoremains which continues now with a new release, the tight pop metal song ‘Stuck’. “The song, as its name suggests, is about being stuck. Society offers us a lot of expectations about how and in what order things should be done in life, but they don’t always feel like our own or essential. While others are moving forward in their lives, it may sometimes feel like they themselves are stuck. I hope the song provides peer support for those who are frustrated by the expectations of others and to act as an encouragement to make their own choices,” says Johanna Ahonen.
