Direct and emotionally unguarded, ‘Mother’s Arms’ examines identity, generational trauma and the complicated inheritance passed between mothers and daughters. The track superbly focuses on that safety and restraint found in maternal love.

“There is love and safety in being held in your mother’s arms,” Maxine says. “When I was a child, my mum would hold me tightly until I stopped crying and caught my breath. That feeling stayed with me.”

Award-winning Liverpool-based neo-jazz artist Ni Maxine releases her latest single, ‘Not For Me’, out now via Ripe Records, alongside the announcement of her debut EP Mother’s Arms, out March 4, 2026.

‘Not For Me’ is a soul-soaked reflection that moves through chaos. Anchored by a walking double-bass and a loose, soulful groove, the track balances ache and grace in equal measure. Maxine’s vocals navigate the space between the drunken glow of an afterparty and the hazy, sometimes messy, reality of coming back to earth. Sitting between the sensibilities of Yazmin Lacey and BINA, ‘Not For Me’ is a striking meditation on self-discovery and liberation.

“’Not For Me’ captures that moment when the party fades and clarity cuts through the noise,” Maxine explains. “It’s about listening to yourself, honouring your boundaries, and knowing that letting go can be an act of self-love.”

Award-winning Liverpool-based neo-jazz star Ni Maxine drops her latest single, ‘Time’ via Ripe Records. Fresh from being crowned Breakthrough Act of the Year at the Jazz FM Awards 2025 alongside pioneers Ezra Collective, Jalen N’Gonda and corto.alto, Maxine continues to establish herself as “a Black woman at the forefront of the UK scene” (Black Ballad), with music that is both soul-stirring and socially charged.

‘Time’ is an emotional unravelling after a heavy period of suppression. It’s a bold exploration of how society’s fixation on productivity and survival can strip us of our humanity. For Ni Maxine, the track began as a confrontation with the “Strong Black Woman” archetype and expanded into a wider reflection on capitalism and collective exhaustion.

“I hope this song will spark a movement,” Maxine explains. “It asks us to pause, to focus on our human needs, our feelings, our dreams. For me, it’s an act of defiance … an invitation to take back our time and reclaim our narratives.”

Acclaimed Glasgow-based singer-songwriter kitti has shared the second single from her highly-anticipated forthcoming debut album Somethin’ In The Water, which is set for release on November 15 via Rebecca’s Records.

Out today, honey-tinged track ‘Everything You Wanted’ provides one of the standout moments on the album, and boasts an arresting combination of dreamy strings, heavenly backing vocals and sublime keys, alongside kitti’s captivating vocal improvisations which centre stage and grab the listener’s attention.

Written when she was just 14-years-old on an upright piano gifted from her Nonna and Papa, ‘Everything You Wanted’ is one of kitti’s oldest compositions – and its beautiful songwriting and arrangement showcases why she has come to be considered one of Scotland’s most exciting jazz artists. Alongside drums, guitars, keyboards and piano, the sensational song also features flute, tenor saxophone, trombone, trumpet, violin, viola and cello for a dynamic and uplifting sound.
