With the EP announcement comes the release of new single ‘Poison Berry’ and a one-take video directed by Jay Bartlett depicting a relationship deadlock.

‘Poison Berry’ provides the new EP’s second taste, following 2025 single ‘Submarine’. Built around a hypnotic rhythmic pulse, Night Swimming lean into a gauzy dream-pop palette, turning the lens inward on recurring relational dynamics.

Speaking on the release of new single ‘Poison Berry’, vocalist and lyricist Meg Jones said: “‘Poison Berry’ is an amalgamation of my experiences with men and how they have made me feel in relationships, but it is also a reflection of my own responsibility for the kinds of dynamics I can be drawn to. There is a dryness of tone to this song that I haven’t explored before in lyrics, and a numbness. ‘Poison Berry’ details the state of being acutely aware of your partner’s emotions, although they seem distant, and the loneliness (or bitterness) of feeling like that isn’t reciprocated.”

On the song’s accompanying video, Meg added: “We wanted the music video for ‘Poison Berry’ to present as a satirical caricature showing the pain and futility of trying to make relationships work with people who can’t be who they want to be. We worked with Jay Bartlett for this, who suggested the use of a continuous track camera technique to pan across different scenarios in a confined space. The video swings between expressions of despondency, anger and exasperation to highlight the characters’ repressed emotions and lack of communication.”

Continuing their swift ascent to becoming one of the UK’s most talked about new bands, ‘Five-Year Plan’ moves with a rare serenity; a wall of sound built from rich electronic string arrangements, haunting guitars – and vocalist Meg Jones’ soul-stirring vocals and lyrics pouring out impulsively, reflecting unfiltered pain following the sudden, unexplained loss of a close relationship.

Speaking more on the inspiration behind new single ‘Five-Year Plan’, Meg Jones said: “‘Five-Year Plan’ is about the feeling of being dropped suddenly, without much explanation, by someone you were really close to. The words were written quickly and without a lot of conscious thought, compared with our other songs. I think this captured the honesty of the difficult emotions I was experiencing at the time.

“Like all of the tracks on the EP, Five-Year Plan was recorded as a live performance to analogue tape. We recorded the songs this way to give them their own energy and movement akin to our live shows. There were minimal overdubs on ‘Five-Year Plan’, however we did experiment with layers such as double tracked vocals/harmonies, a synth bass and even some acoustic guitar to thicken the mix. In terms of the writing process, the track was started by Jesse bringing an arpeggio melody to rehearsal that he’d be working on, and it was fleshed out by the rest of the band to create the wall of sound that is heard in the recording. A few of us were coincidentally experiencing similar life events at the same time, in the middle of winter, which definitely impacted the writing process. The song switches metre from 7/8 to 4/4 which we felt provided a cathartic release to end the song.”

Taken under the wing of British producer Peter Miles (FIZZ, Orla Gartland), the band decamped the south west for Middle Farm Studios in Devon in 2023 to record debut EP No Place To Land. Recorded live to tape, industrial rhythms are set against a colourful, atmospheric soundscape, with the band noting the influence of Beach House and Slowdive’s live shows for their “combination of sensory elements” and the resulting “deepening of emotional response”.

Exploring themes of perfectionism and obsessive thoughts, new single ‘Let That Be Enough’ swells with a cacophony of reverberating percussion and ominous guitars; rich and striking instrumentation matched to vocalist and lyricist Meg Jones’ bewitching musings on self-improvement and preservation.

Speaking more on the inspiration behind new single ‘Let That Be Enough’, Meg Jones said: “‘Let That Be Enough’ is about moving on from past experiences, as well as learning to trust yourself and accepting the choices that you’ve made.”
