The new single ‘Small Flashing Light’ showcases a more stripped back side to their sound. Carried by simple chords and harmonies, the track also features found sounds and field recordings recorded by Morgan to create an ambient soundscape behind Verity’s vocals about platonic love.

Speaking on the track, Verity says: “I wrote it after going through a breakup and realising the beauty of female friendship. When I was with the person this song is about, I had a wonderful feeling of being deeply understood and I wanted to get this into words. As seen in the other songs in Point Nemo, I find it very hard to write happy songs, so this was a big struggle, I think the lyric ‘I know that you fucking hate love songs’ is more of a self-projection. The song makes me feel immense gratitude to this person, and all my friends as a whole- I think it’s a great contrast from the sadder songs in the EP, I write often about feeling like I am in a cycle, this song is breaking that cycle in the EP.”

The new single ‘Zodiac 13’ shows yet another facet of the band’s ever evolving sound combing hazy indie-folk inflected instrumentation with Vertiy’s alt-pop-tinged vocals, before the track explodes into its heavy fuzz driven middle eight section. Thematically, ‘Zodiac 13’ compares the doubts and isolation of a waning friendship to the anticipation of the colder months – resulting in a reflective souvenir of a time.

Speaking on the track, Verity says: “This song is written about the isolation I felt as the winter months started, it is about friendships ending and changing and coming to terms with their being a constant doubt when it comes to people near to you. Lyrically this is the oldest song on the EP, and I was much more unsure of my feelings back then, it’s nice to have something to look back on and see how my writing has changed.”

The first taste of their evolution comes in the form of the new EP’s lead single ‘Song 01’. Characterised by swelling backing vocals and a distinctive melodic bassline, ‘Song 01’ is a meditation on loss inspired by Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, a novel about a man who faces ostracisation after a failed medical experiment. The track is a notable leap forward for the band enhancing and expanding on the woozy, densely layered sound that has earned them so much early critical acclaim.

The single is also accompanied by a stunning and dramatic new video shot in the Lake District with Humble Film Productions.
