‘All I Can Do’ follows the success of the band’s debut single ‘5 Pieces’. The track is a nostalgic reflection on the memories we collect, and the people who were once a part of them, but may have passed away, or passed out of our lives. There’s a deep sense of longing and innocence and a real Fleetwood Mac feel here, playing into the theme of nostalgia with 70s-inspired vocal harmonies, bluesy guitar patterns and a huge singalong chorus. The duo share:

“There’s an innocence to the song, where we begin as children riding in the car, wide eyed and ready for a day that feels like it will never end. It talks about nostalgically dreaming back times you had with someone with a bigger than life personality, the places you went together and how they made you feel anything was possible – but, they’re no longer here. This type of story and feeling was present for both of us when writing, and the chorus is about the way we carry these people with us and hold on to the parts of them which then become a part of us.”

‘5 Pieces’ is the first song that emerged from the band’s creative partnership, and is a tongue-in-cheek take on a period of emotional turmoil at the end of a relationship. The track draws lyrical inspiration from astrology and symbolism, referencing the effect of the moon on our mood, as well as the book Turning: Lessons From Swimming In Berlins Lakes – a true story about a woman who decides to swim in a different lake each week as part of her breakup healing process. The song’s atypical structure mirrors the upside-down world of loss in all forms, however the instrumental is bright, with Tal’s bopping acoustic guitar patterns punctuated by playful synths and string section flourishes. On the track, the band share:

“Reflecting on Turning: Lessons From Swimming In Berlins Lakes, We spoke about the meditative nature of cold-water swimming and how it can take your mind away from loss, even if only momentarily. We ran with the idea of using cold-therapy as a cure for heartache and we thought about the idea of throwing away 5 mementos into a lake as a symbol of letting go / moving on from a relationship.”
