Brooklyn rapper Lola Brooke has released a new single titled ‘No One Else’, featuring R&B artist Jeremih. The track, released via Team Eighty Productions/Arista Records, follows Brooke’s ‘Dennis Daughter (Deluxe)’ project, which was released in April. Brooke comments on the new release, saying: “With ‘No One Else’, you hear more of Lola, the lover girl. We all have feelings, and your girl is in a soft girl mood that you will hear more about with this track and maybe a few more. Going into making this track, I wanted to create something timeless with feel-good energy based on the music I listen to. I’m a rapper who loves R&B, especially the sound from the 90’s. DAYSH has yearned for deeper connection on her latest single, ‘IDK’. The bouncy trap-pop cut sees the London-born musician wax poetic on wanting more from her relationships, as soundtracked by propulsive snare drums and dynamic rap flows. The sound of the song itself is compelling enough, but DAYSH tops it all off with some mesmeric delivery and razor-sharp lyrical observations. 21-year-old singer and rapper Shan.X has released a new genre-bending single ‘Mr.Know’. The pop and rap-influenced R&B track dives into Shan.X’s complex past relationships and reflects on how her most recent relationship ended. X wrote this song very shortly after her last relationship came to an end, around a similar time that she wrote ‘Wish IGAF’. Shan’s ex left without communicating upfront about what was going on, and this song is a reflection on the whole situation and the end of their relationship. When asked about the song, Shan.X said she was speaking on lots of things that were happening “right before he left because those were the things that were standing out to me the most in that time”. This single seems to blend Shan.X’s R&B influences with her more alternative and rap influences. On ‘Mr. Know’, X attacks the beat with a strong vocal presence and catchy melodies, combined with raspy rhythmic adlibs. ‘Mr. Know’ reveals the depth of Shan.X’s unique artistry encapsulating the many stylistic talents that she has, and draws listeners in connecting with them and sharing her vulnerabilities. Sampa The Great has released the single ‘Never Forget.’ It’s a collaboration with two of Sampa’s relatives, sister Mwanjé and cousin Tio Nason, as well as the Zambian rapper Chef 187. In a video statement, Sampa says that “Never Forget is “an ode to Zamrock music,” the fusion of African music and psychedelic rock that came out of Zambia in the ’70s. She notes that Zamrock is known around the world but not necessarily in Zambia itself, and that she has that in common with it: “I started my professional career outside of Zambia, and bringing it back home has been a huge thing for my journey. And so I’d like to pay homage to those who came before me, who paved the way for me and who don’t necessarily get to see their flowers now.” The song has a striking, richly styled video that credits three different auteurs — director Imraan Christian, creative director Rharha Nembhard, and on-set director Furmaan Ahmed. LUCI has signed to Don’t Sleep Records and unveiled her debut single, ‘Ash & Dust,’ a wildly original statement that points towards the future of hip-hop. The track opens with waves of dark synths before stripping back to layers of skittering percussion. Her words are about transformation, but her delivery is somewhere between a rap and a howl, with occasional yips and warbles that suggest being demolished and reborn is even less pleasant than you might imagine. “Wakin up from ash and dust,” she spits, “They ain’t neva met a bitch like me/ Assassinate the character/ You gone have to come fight me/ I am only passenger/ Pray the lord don’t strike me/ Pray the lord don’t strike me.” “The truth is I have never been anything less than genuine,” LUCI said in a statement. “My great grandmother would always say, ‘from dirt we come to dirt we go.’ Apparently Adam and Eve rose with human complexes, while being told they were perfect.
