For the release of ‘Hit Your Knees,’ paris partnered with co-writer and producer Linda Perry, the co-founder along with Alisha Ballard, of EqualizeHer, an organization working to solve gender inequality in the music industry by taking action to create more opportunities for women. Written, performed, produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by women, ‘Hit Your Knees’ amplifies EqualizeHer’s mission and aims to challenge other artists to support female creatives through collaboration. EqualizeHer was founded to take aggressive action and help solve for the underrepresentation of women in the music business and the problems women face in the industry every day.

After meeting at the EqualizeHer LIVE! Event at The Troubadour in Los Angeles in Oct. 2022, in which paris joined Tinashe, Aimee Mann, and many up and coming female artists on stage, the two decided to team up again to write and produce ‘Hit Your Knees.’ Through EqualizeHer’s support of the production of ‘Hit Your Knees,’ more women are getting a valuable, firsthand experience to further a career in the music industry. The single provides a replicable model for engaging more females within song production. In partnership with EqualizeHer, paris will use this song to challenge other artists to build a female production team for at least one song on their next album. The organization will also facilitate unique, firsthand experiences for young women interested in a music career with opportunities to go behind the scenes on paris jackson’s current tour with Incubus. Those selected will learn about live music operations from many different professionals on tour – giving them priceless educational and inspirational experiences as they pursue their own careers in the music industry.

Of the song, paris says, “this is the type of music i used to dream of making myself when i was 14 discovering nirvana and pixies for the first time. lyrically it’s the most raw and vulnerable i’ve ever been in any of my songs. it’s the first track i’ve truly let loose and yelled on in the studio, which you can hear in the third chorus, and i feel like that’s why it had to be the title track for my next record.”

She continues, “i’m grateful to have also started producing, and simon oscroft has been the perfect partner to do that with after having learned everything i know from andy and rob in the studio previously. i’m also deeply honored by my good friend anthony salazar who, when i said, ‘hit those drums harder than tommy lee on wild side,’ did just that. i hope there are people out there that get from it what i got from albums like “i’m wide awake, it’s morning” by bright eyes, a record that truly made me feel heard and understood from the inside out.”
