Paycheque share 80’s inspired guitar-driven single ‘Heatwave’

Rising from the Los Angeles scene, Paycheque offer a glamorous interpretation of ’80s pop. This Friday, June 12, the duo of Alison Goldfarb and Jackson MacIntosh (TOPS, Drugdealer) will release their full-length debut, Paycheque, via Mansions and Millions. Now, they share the final single ‘Heatwave,’ which is accompanied by a music video directed by Ian Svenonius. It centers on Roland TR-505 drum machine and jagged guitar riffs, offering a firm glimpse at the dreamy record.

On the single, Paycheque share: “Before Paycheque really started, Jackson bought Allison a TR-505 drum machine for her birthday, and we initially used it on all of our songs, but it was eventually replaced on every song except for this one, which is a takedown of the greasy charmers of the world. Not to brag, but the guitar solo was recorded in a single take. This one was inspired by the likes of Saada Bonaire and Gina X Performance – the tough Germanic hotties of the ’80s.”

Paycheque share new single on impermanence ‘Temporary Love’

Materializing in the Los Angeles indie rock scene, Paycheque imbue the glamor of ’80s pop with modern themes. On June 12, the duo of Alison Goldfarb and Jackson MacIntosh (TOPS, Drugdealer) will release their full-length debut, Paycheque, via Mansions And Millions. Now, they share the second single ‘Temporary Love,’ which nods to city pop. Goldfarb ponders impermanence over jangly riffs and blocky rhythms. It is retro and ruminative.

On the single, Paycheque share: “This was one of the first songs we ever started writing together, and it was the last one we finished for the record. Jane Penny from TOPS came over to our house and graciously contributed some flute and background vocals to this song, and that really helped tie it together. This song is about embracing impermanence. We think this song has a bit of a city pop flavor in terms of the arrangement and nods heavily to YMO with the vocoder backing vocals on the chorus.”
