The highly anticipated Porcelain album marks the most transformative chapter in Peach PRC’s artistry to date. A body of work that seamlessly bridges the glitter-charged, pink-fairy world of Peach PRC with the raw humanity of Shaylee.

“I’m in the middle of becoming someone else,” Peach says. “The last time I did that was years ago, when I became Peach Porcelain from Shaylee, and entered into the world of stripping and everything that came with that. Now, it feels like I’m in another porcelain stage.”

The result is a glorious excavation of the self, a musical, self-made chrysalis in which Peach PRC falls apart and puts herself back together. She’s stronger and wiser, sure – but forever grateful to everything that came before. Porcelain is an apt title for it; the ceramic might have a reputation for being fragile, but in reality, porcelain is incredibly durable, incredibly strong. The announcement arrives alongside the release of the album’s second single ‘Out Loud’ and news Peach PRC will be performing at ABC’s annual New Year’s Eve concert and fireworks celebration at Sydney Opera House, a sign of the household name status she’s built in her native Australia.

New single, ‘Out Loud’, a shimmering confession wrapped in Peach’s signature pop brilliance, is a yearning anthem about being in a secret relationship and wishing that love could be seen without fear or consequence “If I’m patient… one day she’ll love me out loud.”

Peach PRC says, “everything about the way I wrote ‘Out Loud,’ down to the intonation and the drum pattern, was to make it feel desperate. Sometimes I’m writing from a very naive and human place because I want to remember how it felt. I don’t want to look back on a song about how I know deep down that a closeted relationship can’t last, that I’m accepting that with maturity and moving on, when really I’m holding on, stamping my feet, crying in anguish and refusing to accept that my love could be doomed. I don’t want it to be self-delusion or blind faith; I want to believe that despite thousands of love stories like mine throughout history that all ended the same way, somehow mine is different, because it has to be.”

Katy J Pearson shares new single and music video for ‘Maybe’, four mesmerizing minutes of glorious ultra-melodic pop music. September 20 sees the release of Katy’s third long player on Heavenly Recordings, the outstanding Someday, Now. Talking about ‘Maybe’, Katy said: “I’ve had this song with me for years now — it took a while to get there… When I was in the rehearsal room with Huw Evans [H. Hawkline], a few lyric tweaks happened. The chorus used to be maybe I need your love / to show me that I’m good enough and he was like why are you being like this to yourself? It should be the other way round! And I was like oh, ok, thank you, feminist ally in the room. When a man’s telling me what to do in a studio I can get my back up pretty quickly, so it was brave of him to suggest it, but he was right. When we changed the sentiment of the song [now maybe I don’t need your love / to show me that I’m good enough] my whole feeling about it changed, and it meant that we managed to actually get a handle on what it was meant to be like sonically. It just shows that it’s really important who you choose to have in a room with you…” The track is accompanied by a wonderful video directed by Edie Lawrence and based around an archery competition, a sport widely recognized as pioneering equality for women’s participation. Talking about the video, Edie said: “Katy and I first met on the ‘Alligator’ shoot, the last video I shot for her. Since then we’ve been great friends and excited to collaborate again. We’re both keen to support each other and other women in the creative industry, both being more than aware of the gender inequality in both of our fields of work. The concept for this video is again about female empowerment. Throughout history, archery has had a link to female strength and empowerment. It is known as the sport that pioneered equality for women’s participation, being one of the first sports to include a women’s event in the Olympics in 1904. This video is all about celebrating sisterhood and women working together. With a mostly female crew again, it wouldn’t have been made without the expertise of our extremely talented choreographer Sophie Chinner and costume designer Kiera Saunders. Sexism and misogyny is still rife in this world which is why celebrating and supporting other women is so important.”

The latest track from Pearly Drops, the Finnish duo composed of Sandra Tervonen and Juuso Malin, might give the careful listener déjà vu. Their new single, ‘Lost In The Dark,’ is a haunting reimagining of their song ‘Breathless,’ previously released in 2020. But that doesn’t mean that the music is stale– Tervonen and Malin instead show off their growth, further establishing themselves as a force within synth-pop that cannot be ignored. Pearly Drops are unique in their ability to draw inspiration from their own earlier work. Compared to ‘Breathless,’ the lyrics to ‘Lost In The Dark’ still draw on the same themes of dissociation and dismalness. In a distorted voice, Tervonen sings, “All that’s sweet / And prime in me / Hides somewhere inside so deep / Hibernating / I’m hibernating.” The chorus solidifies this feeling of stuckness and remove, with the deceptively sweet vocals continuing, “Lost n the dark / I couldn’t breathe.” Against a background of bouncing synths, the bleak lyrics feel like an invitation to dance away (or perhaps toward) the darkness. ‘Lost In The Dark’ shows proof of development from the group– While ‘Breathless’ was catchy and cute, this new track contains a depth that is perhaps less apparent in earlier releases. ‘Lost In The Dark’ comes with a short film directed by Joonas Lind. The video is creepy, strange, and absolutely stunning, with Andrea Villarreal confidently leading the macabre ordeal in her role as The Bride. The film depicts a dangerous and devilish relationship between a bride and her groom, with Villarreal dancing and writhing beside a deliciously menacing Sebastian Freiberg as The Man. Lind‘s direction brings a creative edge that amplifies and adds onto the otherworldly texture of Tervonen and Malin‘s work. In a music landscape that is increasingly focused on short form video content and clickable short clips, it’s refreshing to see artists create a more involved narrative that will really engage the audience. In 2022, Fievel Is Glauque released their debut album Flaming Swords. Now, the enigmatic duo is announcing its follow-up, Rong Weicknes, and sharing the mystical lead single ‘As Above So Below.’ About ‘As Above So Below,’ Zach Phillips said: “This phrase comes from the Emerald Tablet, a 9th century hermetic text foundational for alchemy and later occultist movements; it refers to the reciprocality between heaven and earth, the knowable and unknowable, the here and the hereafter. Sounds heady, right? But as usual, the title came out of nowhere, gleaned from phonetic murmurings during the writing process, and Ma and I laughed a lot making this one… Normally we write linearly, improvising bit by bit using only piano and voice, but we ended up constructing As Above out of scattered song sections we’d recorded with my laptop mic in free software over a loop from a ‘70s drum sampling record, which drummer Gaspard Sicx and percussionist Daniel Rossi reinterpreted in the studio. After writing upwards of 35 songs over the course of a couple 2023 writing trips, we were surprised to knock out probably our most conventional tune yet. The lyrics could be said to both troll and co-sign typical pop lyricism. Thom Gill’s blazing guitar solo gets me every time… When [music video director] Joey Agresta asked what I was imagining visually, all I could muster was, “The Sound Of Music, Ma spinning in a field, ‘90s ‘positivity,’ Dido… Phillips and Ma Clément recruited a crew of collaborators for the LP: Thom Gill on guitar, Logan Kane on bass, Daniel Rossi on percussion, André Sacalxot on saxophone and flute, Gaspard Sicx on drums, and Chris Weisman on guitar and electric sitar. They all convened at a farm and music studio in upstate New York called the Outlier Inn with recording, mixing, and mastering engineer Steve Vealey.” [via Stereogum]

Earlier this year, Okay Kaya returned with ‘The Groke,’ her first new music since 2022. Now, the Norwegian-American alt-pop musician is announcing her fourth album Oh My God – That’s So Me and releasing the radiant single ‘Check Your Face.’ “Clive James said, ‘Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing,’” Kaya Wilkins explained in a statement. She continued: “Wrote this slacker disco song About wanting to be, if not a not a brightsider, then at least a belly laugher Sometimes tricky to access just that bliss but if you’re happy and you know it, check your face! The breakthrough Australian singer, songwriter, and pop sensation reveals new single entitled ‘Time Of My Life’ out now, following the announcement of Peach PRC’s return to the UK headlining the icon Brixton Electric in London on the 4th of October. The official music video for ‘Time Of My Life’ is directed by Josh Harris, the director behind Peach PRC’s breakthrough singles, ‘Josh’ and ‘Like A Girl Does.’ With three alternative character endings, Peach PRC wrote the treatment, made the outfits and designed every intricate detail of ‘Time Of My Life’, collaborating with Josh to bring her vision to life. The music video director, Josh Harris, comments, “This is my third time collaborating with Peach, and her unique vision never fails to inspire. The initial idea was to blend the visual aesthetic of a gritty women’s prison with Peach’s own unique style. ‘Time of My Life’ is about reflecting on a chaotic past with a sense of fondness or nostalgia, and Peach’s performance, staying lost in her own world while everything erupts around her, reflects this. I’m really proud of the cast and crew who worked on this project – they really poured their hearts into it – and their creativity and hard work has brought it to life”.

For AUDREY NUNA, every track lends itself to its own audiovisual world. The one she’s created for her latest single ‘Suckin Up’ draws from worlds very familiar – her hometown ‘hood of downtown New York City – and worlds apart in galaxies far, far away. This juxtaposition is emblematic of NUNA’s artistry as well, which is particularly evident on the just-over two-minute track which sees the musician address her thoughts on the superficiality of modern society. “Yeah, I talk, talk pretty, and I stink, and I’m smelly, if you / If you’re super jelly, don’t say sh*t about my belly,” she sings on the first verse before hitting the chorus. “Restart, don’t need puppy lovin’, cut the leash off / Tryna profit off me, I’m like Mona Lisa.” The track comes accompanied by a striking music video, which finds NUNA galivanting across the Lower Manhattan Chinatown streets – as well as fitted in another futuristic “fashion-as-a-weapon”-inspired outfit in a dreamscape universe. “Thankful for every drop of blood, sweat, tears, [and] urine that went into the audio-visual experience,” she shared on Instagram of the single. “Creating this video in New York/New Jersey made me feel young and naive again, and for that I am very grateful.” [via Hypebeast]

Critically acclaimed, rebellious political-punk act Lesibu Grand (pronounced Le-SEE-boo) has released their debut album Triggered via Kill Rock Stars. They’re thrilled to share the Blondie-influenced final album cut ‘Oh Erica…’, a song of conflict between supportive love and the worry of being left behind, written for a fearless and adventurous friend of the band. The band worked with Liliana Penagos (Mastodon, Cardi B, Lizzo) for the accompanying animated official video also released.

Pale Waves have shared new single ‘Gravity’. The Manchester goth-pop group are back, with new album Smitten set to land on September 27 via Dirty Hit. Heather Baron-Gracie is driving their maturity forwards, the lyrics show a broadening sense of self. New single ‘Gravity’ displays her exacting sense of creativity, a song that took Pale Waves months to bring to completion. Lyrically, it deals with the push-and-pull of a blossoming relationship, with the object of Heather’s affections torn between her feelings, and her religion. She sings: “She’s pulling me like gravity everywhere she goes / Am I in too deep, or out of my reach? Little does she know…” Speaking about the track, Heather comments: “’Gravity’ is about a woman who chose Jesus over me. It took the longest of all of the songs on the album to finish, I think we must have rewritten it millions of times to get it to where it is now.” [via Clash]

Greywind‘s ‘Antidote’ is an unforgiving blast of anthemic emotion; a biting dose of catharsis using the familiar lure of revenge as creative fuel. The track delves into the band’s darkest conflicting thoughts whilst also delivering their largest pop-driven chorus to date. Jointly produced by Sam Guaiana (Neck Deep, Silverstein, Like Pacific) and The Wonder Years guitarist Casey Cavaliere and mastered by Mike Kalajian (Saosin, New Found Glory, Circa Survive), it is but a taste of what’s to come from Greywind. “‘Antidote’ is full of all our rage,” says vocalist Steph. “We’ve always treated everyone with respect and kindness, but we saw so little of that in return. Really, these songs are a reminder to ourselves and to people listening that only you can save yourself. You can be in a dark place, and you can have all the support in the world—and I did, from Paul—but [sometimes] you’re the only one that can get yourself out of a toxic feedback loop.”

Unapologetic rising artist CHINCHILLA has released the official video for her most recent single ‘Cut You Off’. Released last month, ‘Cut You Off’ is a power anthem loaded with feminine rage that explores the difficult emotional experience of finally cutting ties with a toxic person, representing the empowerment and freedom that comes with putting yourself first. Co-directed by the hotly tipped Harv Frost and Dora Paphides of Kode Media (The Last Dinner Party – ‘My Lady of Mercy’), the new video sees CHINCHILLA take a mind-bending journey through her brain and emotions, represented by different rooms as she moves from scene to scene. Commenting on the new video, CHINCHILLA says: “While writing ‘Cut You Off’, I was quite literally writing up the music video at the same time. I wanted the main idea of the video to emulate a dream world cult-like girly sleepover with your ‘girls’; the ceremony of blocking someone’s number. Each scene steps into different cutting-off worlds; an Edward Scissorhands hairdressers, a post-apocalyptic butchers, and a medieval blocking-their-number ritual… but make it all fashun.”

Breakthrough Australian singer songwriter Peach PRC takes you on an intergalactic trip aboard of her pink spaceship for the official music video for ‘Like A Girl Does,’ out now via Republic Records and Island Records Australia. In the music video, Peach PRC blasts off in a pink spaceship outfitted with four different “pleasure” rooms. Fittingly tongue-in-cheek, the visuals reflects the clever spirit of the lyrics and finds her on another level altogether.

Foremost professional whistler Molly Lewis has announced her debut album, On The Lips, alongside the brand new single, ‘Lounge Lizard’. Over the past year, Lewis has soundtracked one of the most emotional scenes in the Barbie movie alongside Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, lent her singular talents to fashion houses like Chanel, Gucci, and Hermes, and supported Weyes Blood on tour. The brand new single, ‘Lounge Lizard’ comes accompanied with a music video directed by Ambar Navarro and conceptualised by Molly Lewis, inspired by Julie London’s apparition in 1956’s The Girl Can’t Help It. “Wherever you happen to be, I’d like you to let this song soundtrack the next few minutes of your life. Biig Piig has shared new single ‘Watch Me’. The R&B voyager shared her excellent Bubblegum mixtape earlier this year, but the creativity hasn’t stopped. Moving between London and Paris, she draws on the energy of both cities for her latest single release. Out now ‘Watch Me’ was constructed alongside Zach Nahome (PinkPantheress, Teezo Touchdown) and Maverick Sabre, and it contains the energy of her zesty live shows. A song about empowerment, ‘Watch Me’ reaches towards new-found confidence, with Biig Piig commenting: “’Watch Me’ is a track about empowerment. I found confidence in pushing new limits with it. It’s a song to feel yourself unapologetically and to strut to. Telling the world, I am that bitch, watch me.” In a neat twist Biig Piig takes the reins for the video, her directorial debut, no less. Co-directing alongside NWSPK, she adds: “I had a really clear vision of what I wanted the video to be, even when writing the track. I wanted to build a surreal world of strength through movement. New Orleans-based chanteuse Anna Moss has announced her debut solo LP, Amnesty, set for release on March 22, 2024. On November 4, Moss released album track ‘Gravy,’ and now, she has released the song’s surrealistic video. Directed by New Orleans-based director Sasha Solodukhina in collaboration with production designer and painter, Sarah VanDerMeer, the video features Moss in an underwater scene – like a painting come to life, a singular world imagined through several mediums. ‘Gravy’ came to life in the wee hours of the morning as Moss was playing upright bass in her kitchen. “The wood floors make the bass sound amazing, and I was sinking into that sound,” she says. “I was thinking about the idea of falling in love and how people are often so ready and willing to abandon the labels and confinements they had built for themselves. Falling in love is like shedding a skin and becoming a new person. I was fixated on that feeling….losing all senses and truly being lost in the sauce,” she adds. “The urge to merge is powerful enough to sway any pre-existing concrete beliefs and thoughts. Love moves us like nothing else.” ‘Gravy’ also features New Orleans legend, Ashlin Parker (Dumpstaphunk, Trumpet Mafia), on trumpet.

Irish alt/rock band NewDad have shared their latest track ‘Nightmares’ – the third to be released from their upcoming album, MADRA. Speaking of the new single, vocalist/guitarist Julie Dawson says: “’Nightmares’ is about longing for something or someone, even though you shouldn’t, for whatever reason. It’s about not wanting to fall for someone because you know it’d never work. Basically, just wishing you despised them instead of adoring them.” The official video was directed by Zack Arlo with co-direction by Oliver Day. In their words, “The Irish word for Nightmares is tromluí, meaning trom (heavy; burden; oppression) + luí (lying down; state of rest). We took this as inspiration for the concept of the “Nightmares” video, given how much the Irish language has inspired the band. The Byron region artist GIMMY’s new single, ‘Tell Me I’m Your Girl’, is out now via Third Eye Stimuli Records. In a statement, GIMMY’s Gemma Owens described ‘Tell Me I’m Your Girl’ as a tacky love song. “I love romance, all the chaos and honesty of it, not just the shining stuff but all the grit as well,” she said. ‘Tell Me I’m Your Girl’ offers a sly challenge to the heteronormative status quo. “Being queer, it feels important to me to reinvent and challenge gender roles,” said GIMMY. GIMMY directed the ‘Tell Me I’m Your Girl’ music video, with Dom Sullivan handling the camera work. The video – which features Owens and GIMMY band members Samson (guitar), Kyle (bass) and Barclay (drums) – supplements the song’s interrogation of gender roles. “I came up with the storyline and concept of challenging gender roles,” GIMMY said, “with Samson dressed as a woman, myself dressed as a man and Kyle and Barclay dressed as neutral, furniture-like objects to represent gender neutrality, in the respect that women can also portray a masculine quality of being chivalrous as well as men.” [via Music Feeds]

Gossip have announced Real Power, their first new album in 11 years. The new album was produced by Rick Rubin, who previously worked with Beth Ditto and the band on 2009’s Music for Men. The follow-up to 2012’s A Joyful Noise is out on March 22 via Columbia. He creates calm, positive, open spaces—emotional space and the actual physical vibe of his studio—that make you free to experiment.” “We felt genuinely cared about and supported,” Gossip continued. “We’re both such maniacs, he’s amazing at helping us focus the chaos. We were writing like crazy, there are probably 30-40 songs and bits of things that came out of it, just throwing everything against the wall and having the best time! In a deft indie-rock bop, Lucy McWilliams breaks down the intricacies of building a fake persona that is more lovable than what she thinks her true self is. ‘Plastic’ tugs at the heart strings of anyone who’s felt the need to put on a front for others. We’ve got a few distinct sections here in this song and each of them serve a different aspect of this narrative. The broken down verse sections utilize playful but somber guitar riffs, wandering baselines, and a minimalist kick and snare pattern to set the scene. The chorus comes in with a fully Weezer’d fuzz guitar tone after a moment of instrumental break. Chugging quarter notes fill the space. There’s a small jam as well that leans on guitar harmonies that are reminiscent of 90s power pop. All of it captures that 90s vibe, but McWilliams’ delivery keeps things contemporary and interesting. Regarding the song Peach PRC comments, “‘Forever Drunk’ looks back at my first heartbreak, when at that time I thought this teenage relationship was all I had in my life, I had no family, I hated school, I didn’t think I was smart or talented. So once I lost this person, I went into full on teenage melodramatic devastation, groveling on my hands and knees begging to be taken back. I thought I would NEVER get over it at the time.”

Peach PRC continues speaking to the collaboration with Bonnie McKee, “Originally ‘Forever Drunk’ was a much sadder song, but Bonnie and I turned it into an anthemic “dance while you cry” bop, which is what I wanted the song to blossom into anyway. Bonnie’s like a big sister to me, we talk all the time with each other, sharing our little DIY creative endeavors and random ideas at ridiculous hours of the night. We’ve had such similar lives and have so much in common, not just in our bubblegum pop music but with our personal journeys too.”
