Gentle acoustic guitar and delicate Americana twangs create a beautifully understated backdrop, with subtle electric guitar and soft drums adding warmth without overwhelming the vocals. Pien’s delivery is wonderfully raw, moving between fragility, wistfulness and quiet hope. There’s a particularly breathtaking moment where the instrumentation almost disappears, leaving her ethereal, reverb-drenched voice suspended in the air. Despite its intimate arrangement, the track retains a sweeping Americana quality that gives its reflective sentiment room to breathe.

The accompanying visualiser features what appears to be childhood home-video footage of Pien, adding another poignant dimension to the song’s nostalgic atmosphere. Tender and slightly melancholic, ‘Younger Self’ captures the complicated relationship between our past ambitions and present realities with touching sincerity.
