Rather than relying on one standout element, ‘SUCKERPUNCH’ works because everything slots neatly together. Mid-tempo guitars bring shades of The 1975 and Pale Waves alongside a nostalgic nod to 2000s pop-rock and pop-punk, while the band’s male and female vocals prove particularly well matched. Their contrasting styles weave naturally around one another, adding personality to a catchy, polished arrangement that already feels remarkably assured for a first release.

As Hay puts it: “‘It’s All Good’ is something we say all the time without meaning it, especially when we’re trying to spare someone else’s feelings, or our own. This song is about the three little words that lie between the three big ones: ‘I love you’, disguised by a nonchalant ‘It’s all good’.”

Sonically, the track marks a step forward for Hay–a guitar and drums-driven pop-rock sound that carries the energy of the early-to-mid 2000s without simply revisiting it.
