Wallice has announced her highly anticipated debut album The Jester (Dirty Hit) out November 15. The LA native has come out swinging, with a double single singles ‘Heaven Has To Happen’ & ‘The Opener.’ ‘Heaven Has to Happen,’ is a confession about suffering from imposter syndrome even while you’re living your dream. “How many more jokes can I make before the wool gets pulled out from over my eyes?” Wallice sings just before a brief, mid-song outburst of distorted bass. Los Angeles-based electro-pop duo Magdalena Bay (aka Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin) have released a new album, Imaginal Disk, via Mom + Pop. Now they have shared its fourth single, ‘That’s My Floor,’ via a trippy music video. Amanda Kramer directed the video, which continues the narrative from the other videos for the album. Back in May, Amyl And The Sniffers shared a pair of singles called ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ and ‘Facts.’ Now, they’ve announced a new album called Cartoon Darkness, the follow-up to 2021’s Comfort To Me. Out in October, it’ll include ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ as well as the latest single ‘Chewing Gum.’ Amyl And The Sniffers recorded Cartoon Darkness with producer Nick Launay (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) at Foo Fighters’ 606 Studios in Los Angeles earlier this year. ‘Chewing Gum’ has a great, mid-tempo guitar groove, though the band’s punk roots come through in vocalist Amy Taylor’s delivery. “Life is short, life is fun, and I’m young and so dumb/ I’m stuck on you just like a chewing gum,” she snarls. She explains: “The adversity of life is desire never fulfilled. Doing the dishes cleaning, but never the one eating the meal, so close but it’s never enough, and trying to celebrate the ignorance of youth despite it being robbed away, so choosing ignorance, choosing to be dumb and choosing love, despite everything, choosing bad decisions for love, for life, because it is short, or is it long? Surrendering to joy, surrendering to being a vision, in your own power, because making decisions based on emotion rather than logic is liberating, and despite the external inferno, you walk away unscathed, through flames, burnt but only superficially, unstopped, unaffected, unhuman. Du Blonde has announced the release of her fourth LP Sniff More Gritty, alongside a new single ‘TV Star’ and an upcoming UK tour. The artist’s fourth LP Sniff More Gritty sees Du Blonde take the role of producer and engineer while enlisting an eclectic list of collaborators, with features from Skunk Anansie’s Skin, Against Me!‘s Laura Jane Grace, Maximo Park’s Paul Smith and The Futureheads’ Ross Millard. Alongside the announcement, Du Blonde has released a new single ‘TV Star’ — a grunge-pop exploration of the toxicity of succumbing to fame, and how people can change with mass attention. “Congratulations, you’re a TV star,” they begin in a monotone drawl over the strum of an acoustic guitar. “Hit the bigtime, bought a brand new car / Was it worth it, do you know who you are? “It’s the story of who somebody was before and after fame, and the sadness of losing the good person they used to be,” Du Blonde says of the raucous track. The accompanying music video stars actor and musician Pete Chekvala, and cuts between new footage and 10-year-old clips of Du Blonde and Chekvala to “depict the purity and innocence of the early years,” the artist explains. “Although I’m acting in the early clips, I can see even now how much softer I was and how much I still believed in the magic of people,” they say of the video that was a decade in the making. “I feel like a lot of the new album swings between characters and mindsets and being able to play with the more unhinged sides of my personality both lyrically and aesthetically has been really freeing and fun.” Sniff More Gritty will see Du Blonde take aim at past loves and record industry execs through a soundscape of glam-rock, punk and pop. Glasser, the elevated electronic project from Cameron Mesirow, has announced the expanded version of her third album crux. crux deluxe includes seven previously unheard tracks and is released by One Little Independent Records on September 27. Glasser uses entrancing and dreamy experimental pop to explore themes of personal identity, emotional vulnerability, and the human experience. crux deluxe collects exclusive material written alongside the sessions for crux as well as complete pieces that had been gestating prior to the album’s release. It also features a slower, early version of her single ‘Drift’, which highlights a darker side to the composition. Of ‘Drift Slow’, she says; “I made like 40 versions of that song. And I still can’t listen to it. It’s been my obsession for the last, I don’t even know how long. That lyric is just something that came out of me like “What a good life / Except for all those times / When you want to die” It was kind of meant to be a joke but sounds quite serious in the context of the entire record. But also, like, jokes are serious sometimes too. It’s good to joke about serious things, for me at least. I made so many versions. And I really wanted the final version to have sort of a dance vibe to it because dancing about death is better than weeping. They’re both good, but I wanted to dance about that.”

Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega fight to the near-death over a shared lover in the singer’s gory new music video for ‘Taste,’ the opening track on her sixth album, Short n’ Sweet, out now. After a warning advising viewers that the following contains “explicit content and depicts graphic violence,” the music video sees the two former Disney Channel stars alternate strangling, axing and shooting each other. The video is inspired by Death Becomes Her, a 1992 film starring Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn. With the lyrics, “Oh, I leave quite an impression / Five feet to be exact / You’re wonderin’ why half his clothes went missin’ / My body’s where they’re at / Now I’m gone, but you’re still layin’ / Next to me, one degree of separation,” Carpenter, 25, sings about finding out her ex (played by Halloween actor Rohan Campbell) is back together with his former partner (Ortega). “I heard you’re back together and if that’s true / You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you / If you want forever, I bet you do / Just know you’ll taste me too,” she sings. Just before the video ends, Ortega is seen kissing her boyfriend, who, mid-kiss, turns into Carpenter. When Ortega opens her eyes and sees Carpenter, she grabs a chainsaw and pierces the singer in the abdomen. However, after Carpenter’s bloodied body falls into the pool, she turns back into Ortega’s boyfriend. The final scene shows the two bonding at the boyfriend’s funeral as they walk away hilariously comparing notes on him. “I don’t know how you put with [him],” Ortega questions recalling that he was “very insecure.” Carpenter adds: “Very clingy, lots of trauma.” [via The Independent]

Nemahsis has announced her highly anticipated debut LP, previewed by the new single ‘coloured concrete.’ Verbathim will be released independently on September 13. It follows the 2022 EP eleven achers as well as the career-shifting debacle the singer-songwriter born Nemah Hasan faced last October when she was dropped by her record label over her pro-Palestine activism. ‘coloured concrete’ arrives alongside a music video directed by Hasan’s frequent collaborators Norman Wong and Amy Gardner. With a steady pulse that crescendoes in the chorus as the artist sings hooky vocables and lyrics reflecting on dreaming of a certain unattainable lifestyle growing up, it’s a prime example of Nemahsis’s poised, thought-provoking and effortlessly catchy alt-pop approach. Goat Girl have released a new single, ‘words fell out’. The trio’s third record, Below The Waste is set for release on June 7 via Rough Trade Records, and has already been teased by early singles ‘ride around’ and ‘motorway’. Singer/guitarist Lottie Pendlebury wrote the track while watching drummer Rosy Jones struggle with addiction, she explains: “The song is about the helplessness felt amongst our friends as we attempted to nurture Rosy, a time that felt really hard to find words for. “I wrote it to sort through the emotions that are pushed aside in the midst of dealing with a crisis. The opening line ‘I only want the best for you’ is the central theme, not only of the song but also our friendship.” [via Dork]

Canadian singer/songwriter Goldie Boutilier has released ‘The Actress’, the first track from her upcoming EP of the same name for release later this year via ONErpm. It features Goldie exuding her unique cinematic quality and exploration of tragic romance, glamour and melancholia. ATARASHII GAKKO! dropped its new music video accompanying ‘Fly High,’ a track off the four-member group’s first full album in five years entitled AG! Calling. The first song on the group’s third full-length project, ‘Fly High’ is being featured as the opening theme song of the recently released animated Netflix movie Hanma Baki VS Kengan Ashura. The four women perform their latest dance moves in a boxing ring in this new video, and hyper-muscular versions of the members transformed through hard training in the gym also appear. French pop and nu-disco group L’Impératrice have released their new album Pulsar and also sharednew video ‘Any Way,’ a collaboration with Maggie Rogers. “L’Impératrice has been one of my favorite bands for a few years now, so when we started talking about working together on some music, I jumped at the opportunity to travel to Paris and create with them,” Rogers said in a statement. “The song came together really naturally and effortlessly in one afternoon and I really think it represents this perfect hybrid of what we both do. I’m so happy it’s out in the world.” “The French way is that we are pretty slow people,” the band’s founder, Charles de Boisseguin, added. “We really take time to make things good. Picture Parlour are back with news of a new EP. The London-based foursome will release Face In The Picture next week, on June 14, teased by the title-track and accompanied by an intimate release party at London’s Third Man Records on June 18. Of the release – which will follow their early singles ‘Norwegian Wood’ and ‘Judgement Day’ – singer and guitarist Katherine Parlour says: “The face in the picture represents the haunting of the past. The song confronts turbulent relationships with the things we have seen or experienced. Our track is a portal to remind the listener that the faces, feelings, and wounds which fade as time progresses never truly leave us.” [via Dork]

Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan hard launched their relationship at this year’s Met Gala and now they’re following in the time-honored Hollywood couple tradition of making a music video together. Keoghan starred as the bad boy to Carpenter’s (semi) good girl in the video for her new Jack Antonoff-produced single, ‘Please Please Please.’ The four-minute video begins with a nod to Carpenter’s currently inescapable hit, ‘Espresso’. The video for that earworm ends with her being arrested, and ‘Please, Please, Please’ picks up with Carpenter and Keoghan meeting in jail. Carpenter, rocking her signature fluffy curtain bangs, gets out, but returns to visit Keoghan in a Bonnie and Clyde-era Faye Dunaway look by way of 2024. Later, she greets him outside the jail yard atop a vintage car in a luxe pink fur coat, where they embrace. Things quickly go awry, though, as Keoghan’s character fails to get on the straight and narrow. As the song, which has a Kacey Musgraves twang to it, continues, Carpenter begs her love to “please, please, please” not embarrass her. “Heartbreak is one thing, my ego’s another,” she croons, voicing the concerns of any woman who’s ever bragged about a man only to be thoroughly humiliated by him. Ariana Grande has released a new music video for her Eternal Sunshine cut ‘The Boy Is Mine.’ Directed by Christian Breslauer, the clip shows Grande tuning in for a TV press conference from the city’s mayor, played by Gossip Girl and You actor Penn Badgley, and concocting a love potion in her kitchen to win his heart. Jockstrap have shared a fun new video for their song ‘Greatest Hits.’ In the video a celebrity trial between two pop stars plays out in full, from being caught by paparazzi as they enter to the drama unfolding inside the court. Cameos in the video include Jamie xx, Don Letts, John Foley, and Princess Julia. Director Aidan Zamiri, a regular collaborator of FKA twigs, says: “I think Jockstrap are one of the most exciting bands in the world and I’m stoked we were able to make this video together. We wanted this to have a bit of a reflection on the time we live in now, whilst still having a sense of humour about it. Georgia and Taylor are geniuses, and I was so grateful to explore this mad story with them. We did our best to make it as legally accurate as possible (with a few artistic liberties) and this was possible thanks to Jean Lee, our barrister consultant who also played the judge.” [via The FADER]

Black Honey are back with news of their third album A Fistful of Peaches, and have shared new single ‘Heavy’ to accompany the announcement. ‘Heavy’ is teamed with a video directed by and starring Drag Race UK’s Dakota Schiffer, and will appear on Black Honey’s forthcoming album with last month’s ‘Out of My Mind’ single and August’s ‘Charlie Bronson’. Lead vocalist Izzy Phillips says of the single, “We wrote this song the day I found out the founder of our fan club passed away from Covid-19. We were talking about the weight of grief and the way it holds you down, about the parallels between grief and depression. The weight of mental illness and how it brings you a deeper understanding of grief. There’s always a glimmer of light though and I love how Heavy has that kind glitter darkness. It’s in my nature to become co-dependant and I think in this song I’m reaching for someone to help me climb back out. I talk a bit about the never-ending story as it was my first dialog with death and depression as a child. When she’s not co-fronting Nice Biscuit, you can catch Grace Cuell making some cool sounds as Baby Cool, who returns with new single and music video ‘Poison’ ahead of her debut album Earthling on the Road to Self Love, set for a February 2023 release. A breezy slice of indie-pop meets psych-folk with just a dash of alt-country, ‘Poison’ takes the listener on an effortless, floating journey through it’s guitar twangs, relaxed rhythm section and Cuell’s smokey, entrancing vocals. Explaining the inspiration behind the song, Cuell says “I wrote this song as a playful way to move through the feelings of rejection that can surface after a break up. The meaning has morphed into different things over time. Mostly it’s about expelling bad energy from your soul so that you can move through life a little lighter. yunè pinku is 19-year-old Irish Malaysian-Londoner Asha Yunè, who debuted earlier this year with Bluff, an EP that bent the past three decades of rave culture to her own will. Now, she returns with a new song called ‘Fai Fighter,’ which digs deeper into her feelings and comes out howling. ‘Fai Fighter’ begins with a synth riff worthy of any ’80s pop hit and marries it to a four-on-the-floor beat that stays stomping throughout. Yunè’s vocals are chopped up and scattered across the chorus, leaving her to get her message across in the verses. Her lyrics mix the macabre with the every day to amusing effect. “My head just severed,” she sings at one point before undercutting the drama with a well timed, “Oh babe, whatever.” The song comes with a video that — and you may detect a theme here — features the producer and artist wielding a sword as she poses for the camera. There’s a chaotic nature to the visual that feels in tune with the song, featuring nods to her Irish heritage and Celtic witches. “’Fai Fighter’ is a sort of homage to the chaos of vulnerability,” yunè tells The FADER. “I imagined it existing in a metaverse arena or a futuristic realm of some sorts. I think for me I struggle to articulate the meaning of this track because it’s much more of a feeling than a specific word. Creating tracks that feel both catchy and feeling honest and vulnerable seems to be second nature for Madisyn Gifford, an artist who’s lush pop sound continues to earn her plaudits both for its creative potency and her unerring level of consistency. The latest release from the artist is her new single ‘Hospital Beds’, a track that sees the artist aiming criticism at herself for her tendency to sabotage things and then mope around in the aftermath. HALFLIVES have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘sorry mom x,’ is the brand new single from the French melodic alternative rock band and follows on from their last single, ‘Dynamite,’ which was released back in April. Speaking about the new single, vocalist Linda Battilani says, “the writing of sorry mom was incredibly natural and fast. I started singing on a guitar riff and the lyrics were somehow immediately right. I was particularly inspired by how I was feeling on the moment and it quickly became a stream of consciousness.
