Samantha has also released a music video for ‘B-Attitudes’ filmed within her home of Oklahoma; from the streets of downtown Shawnee to the town’s neighboring rural highlands. The fuzzy VHS-esque visual marks her latest collaboration with Dylan Friese-Greene, who directed videos for several of Gumshoe’s previously released singles ‘Dart,’ ‘Ridin’ Out The Storm,’ and ‘Dragonfly.’

“In Oklahoma, where I live, there are open spaces, empty fields, huge areas of untouched land everywhere, yet almost none of it is accessible or available to walk on or explore,” says Samantha about the inspiration behind ‘B-Attitudes.’ “It’s all private property. As someone whose biggest monetary asset is a Martin guitar, I don’t have much sense of ownership of things or places. But when I see how much of the space that surrounds me is completely off limits to me and out of my reach, I can’t help but want a piece of that. That’s what B-Attitudes is about. I would rather it all be open to everyone, but if not that, I want my own little bit of earth to form a bond with, to care for, to exist on.”

“I was watching this TV show called “The Great” one night and this one line caught me,” says Samantha about the new track. “I’m sure it is based on some older, canonical text but, basically, it was this: “Let it go. It is a storm. They will never stop coming, but pass through and away. They always will.” To me, that seemed like the best way I could sum up the gist of living and I wanted to write an expansive song about how that has played out in my life.”

‘Dragonfly’ is a comeback track with a punchy slacker vibe; confident and carefree like the enigmatic creature in flight as it cruises along with the elements surrounding it. “I only wanna be free at last // live to see where I arrive at,” Samantha declares in the song’s opening moments as she opens the door to life’s mercurial nature and welcomes it in. ‘Dragonfly’ arrives with a music video directed by Dylan Friese-Greene; a visual cloaked with the warp of an old VHS tape that aptly mirrors the track’s lushly fuzzed guitars and echoes of feedback that shimmer like a prism in the sunlight.

“Dragonflies are an amazing insect,” adds Samantha about the inspiration behind the song. “They can fly in all six directions with great efficiency. They have iridescence, which allows them to appear differently depending on the light and polarization around them. They live most of their lives as nymphs, immature, not flying at all, but preparing for the coming moment of flight. They can see 360 degrees around themselves because of their compound eyes. To me, a dragonfly symbolizes the type of creature I aim to be: flexible and resilient in this ever-changing world that I have no control over, living moment to moment and moving towards potential moments of wisdom and lift–observant in my mind and seeing beyond the limitations of the physical self. This song is an ode to the simple sophistication of the dragonfly and how it mirrors the self-actualization that I have been searching for my whole life.”
