Toronto powerhouse rapper Haviah Mighty joins forces with rising R&B sensation Shantel May on her latest release, ‘Lucky,’ a bold collaboration between two of the city’s most compelling voices. Opening with intricate keys and a laid-back groove, ‘Lucky’ sets the tone with funky bass lines and Haviah’s effortless, distinctive delivery. Produced by John Fellner, KTOE, and Haviah Mighty, the track marks the third installment in Haviah’s V2 Healing Era.

Following ‘Double the Fun’ and ‘OK!’, she teams up with Shantel May to blend luscious, soulful vocals a la Whitney Houston or Beyoncé, with confident bars, creating a rich contrast. Rooted in classic boom bap and live instrumentation, ‘Lucky’ explores mutual appreciation in a relationship where both partners know they’re fortunate to have each other, but question whether that gratitude is truly seen. While continuing to echo themes of self-love and inner worth, the song also leans into the longing for care and validation from others.

Talking on the track, Haviah tells us: “When this combination is right… any connection feels magical. Lucky, even.”

Genre-bending North Carolina rapper TiaCorine drops ‘Fall In Love,’ a ride-or-die anthem set to her signature blend of hard bars, snapping drums, and kaleidoscopic melodies.

‘Fall In Love’ may be a love song, but fans know better than to expect the softer side of TiaCorine. She comes at romance with the same intent and intensity that she brings to past verses. Over a warped funk-soul sample and crystalized synth lines, she makes her intent known: “I’m really her, the way I pulled up to your avenue / Change your latitude, might fly you out and buy you tennis shoes, baby boo.”

With ‘Boffum,’ Saweetie delivered a quintessential Saweetie track — but also a stunning video. On Friday, as she released EP Hella Pressure, the rap queen shared the visual for her Young Buck-sampling single.

“The duality of Saweetie is ‘Boffum.’ I’m this and I’m that,” Saweetie tells Rolling Stone of the track. “There’s just always such a discourse online of people wondering where I’m from, what do I really act like… this and that. But it’s just like what you see is really what you get.”

She adds: “I’m a very complex individual, and it’s because I’ve lived so many lives. So, because I’ve been placed in so many environments, it’s produced a woman who can do a lot of things organically, naturally.”

‘Boffum’ is featured on her new EP, Hella Pressure, which includes songs such as ‘Twinzz,’ the opening track ‘Pressure,’ and ‘Superstars,’ alongside K-pop group Twice.

Emerging rapper Tspokes shows love to her home state on her latest release, ‘Westcoast Matters.’ The young lyricist serves tight bars over a smooth tempo, showing appreciation for her Southern California roots. With each verse, the rapper invokes a subtle head nod to the bass. ‘Westcoast Matters’ has a mellow hip-hop beat equipped with snares and keys. The bass is subtle yet prominent, hovering in the background. The rapper delivers fast-paced bars with an effortless bravado, each a different brag about the Golden State. Her timing is calculated as her voice takes a stylized inflection reminiscent of West Coast rap. She spits the chorus, “Say it loud, I’m from the West and I’m proud,” before giving a shoutout to Kobe Bryant, Nipsey Hussle, and Drakeo The Ruler. [via Earmilk]

Kenyan rapper Elsy Wameyo goes hard on new single ‘Umva’. The multi-faceted artist is breaking out, fresh from a cavalcade of red-hot performances in Brighton over the weekend. Debut album Saint Sinner lands on July 29, and each single seems to arrive as a ready-made anthem. With co-signs from Masego and Lady Leshurr, it’s clear that Elsy Wameyo has huge breadth to her sound. New single ‘Umva’ is a case in point – the shuddering beat points to Stateside hip-hop reverberations, but the icy atmosphere is sheer grime. There’s something else, though, something harder to pin down – Elsy’s flows aim to disrupt, and she’s constantly seeking out new modes of expression. ‘Umva’ startles with its originality, relishing the shock factor while also impressing with the sheer force of character at the centre of it all. Elsy Wameyo comments… “It came from a place where I was writing and I didn’t exactly know where it was leading. I had to say certain things and this was one of those verses, where it was my body – whether I liked it or not – saying, “We have to get this out, because it’s the only way we’re going to heal. ‘Umva’ means “listen”. My photographer at the time, at the camp, he’s from Burundi. When Wuod had done the track, we were jumping around and listening to it and he said the word “umva”. I thought it was really cool, and he told me it means “listen”. I ran with that so hard. It was perfect. It was exactly the energy I wanted: when I speak, you’d better sit down and listen. When I enter a room, you stand up and you must salute. Respect.” [via Clash]

Saweetie has debuted the sunny, catchy single ‘Nani,’ which she’s been teasing for weeks. “‘Nani’ isn’t just a track; it’s the soundtrack to a good time,” Saweetie said in a press release. “This track gives main character energy! This single has been a labor of love, and it’s just the beginning. I’ve been working on this new music for a while, and I’m excited to share more of this journey with you.” The video captures the musician combing her hair before a pool party, twerking in a pull, and doing choreo to her radio-ready track at a badie-filled party. In the lyrics, Saweetie celebrates her glamorous lifestyle.“Plane. Sprinter. Glam. To the club backdoor. Section. Shots. Another club,” she raps referencing that one viral Lady Gaga interview. “Two shows. One night. What’s that? A hunnid plus. Whole room full of bad bitches, it’s a lot of us.” [via Rolling Stone]

Detroit hip-hop queen Kash Doll has dropped a new single and accompanying video called ‘Kash Kommandments,’ which sees her laying out some life lessons. The video sees Kash entering what looks like a formal business environment, looking executive-elegant, and then imparting her wisdom on a group of similarly-attired women. The lessons are pretty straightforward: don’t get fucked over more than once, get the money that you’re owed, and so on. Fair enough. “The video, directed by Diego, showcases ‘Professor Kash’ imparting invaluable lessons on being an empowered boss,” reads the press release. “Since its release via MNRK Music Group, Kash Doll has ignited the streets with ‘Kash Kommandments,’ garnering fans to jump on board, taking flight on social media, and creating over 12k videos within days of the song’s release.” [via Music Connection]

Lifesize Teddy, the newest signing to Africa’s No.1 record label Mavin Records has released her self-titled debut EP alongside a visual for its lead track ‘Hypnotic’. A self-assured and boldly audacious declaration of Lifesize Teddy’s talent and artistic vision, her debut EP is a project that sees the 23-year old rapper, singer/songwriter and poet announce herself as a complex and layered young woman with various multitudes and a penchant for clairvoyance. The project’s first single ‘Hypnotic’ is a decadent and fearlessly expressive club track about being the life of the party and reveling in the freedom that comes with feeling comfortable in one’s body and sexuality. Produced by Andre Vibez (Rema, Ayra Starr, Omah Lay), the track’s off-kilter production is a melting point of Afro-inspired Hip-Hop swaggering. Underpinned by dancehall-infused rhythms that are tightly peppered with arabic and middle eastern sensibilities. Speaking on the track, Lifesize Teddy said: “Writing this record was a thrill. I want whoever listens to feel the rush and embody being THE MOMENT. Being the driver of your own vibe and staying turnt. Hypnotic is all about freedom in the utmost way”. Directed by Jyde Ajala (Asake, CKay, Don Toliver), the accompanying visual brings to life the song’s hedonistic and pleasure-seeking aura. The concept’s narrative centers around Teddy as she leads the crashing of a lackluster school party with her crew of outcasts. Upon her arrival, Teddy’s boisterous and rebellious attitude gives way to the party transforming into an energetic and bustling occasion. The video experiments with supernatural and spooky undertones that at once is an homage to her hometown of Port Harcourt, while also presenting Teddy as a confident, fashion-forward and futuristic artist.

After releasing two new singles last week, ‘Birthday Girl’ and ‘SHOT O’ CLOCK,’ Saweetie has returned with an official music video for the latter song. Featuring production by London on Da Track, the single samples Suzanne Vega’s 1987 original song ‘Tom’s Diner,’ which appeared on her platinum album Solitude Standing. “Tonight we gettin’ white girl wasted / Clique full off baddies, no basics,” Saweetie raps over the beat. “This gon’ be an icy girl favorite / Shots got me leanin’ like The Matrix.” True to its title, the music video, directed by Lauren Dunn, sees Saweetie and her friends take shots in between montages of them dancing to Bollywood-inspired hip-hop choreography.
Doja Cat has heard everything that her haters — and her fans — have said about her, and she’s ready to fully accept that she is whatever they say she is with ‘Paint The Town Red.’ The official video features Doja engaging in all the typical “satanic”-type imagery that gets social media speculating about Illuminati and other beings. She dances with the Grim Reaper, rides a goat-like mythosaur, and even poses with chunks of meat meant to look like human flesh. And she seems to also take direct aim at all the recent criticism about her and her life choices when she raps, “Yeah, bitch, I said what I said / I’d rather be famous instead / I let all that get to my head / I don’t care, I paint the town red.” Classic R&B fans, too, will take notice that Doja Cat does this all over a chopped-and-screwed sample of Dionne Warwick‘s ‘Walk On By’. [via HipHopDX]

Sexyy Red has had a great year as one of rap’s newest breakout stars. Now, in her latest video, ‘I’m The Sht,’ Red is looking back on her epic summer, reflecting on her year as one of the most exciting newcomers. The video for ‘I’m The Sht’ kicks off with Redd opening up various online news headlines (including one from Uproxx), her Instagram followers growing, and a bunch of concert and festival performances. Juxtaposed with the montage is Red twerking inside her home, with stacks of cash in hand. [via Uproxx]

St. Louis rapper and singer Big Boss Vette unveils a stunning music video for her new single ‘Get It.’ The track stands out as a fan favorite from her debut EP, RESILIENCE, available now via Beatstaz/Amigo Records/Republic Records. In the video directed by SPUDDSMCKENZIE, she turns up at a roller rink surrounded by friends, dripping in seventies-style fits with shimmering jewelry. It channels a nostalgic vibe with its throwback aesthetic and impressive roller skating choreography. It perfectly matches the song’s distinct party-ready bounce.

Alabama’s very own princess of rap Flo Milli announces her second studio album, Fine Ho, Stay set for release via RCA Records later this summer. To coincide with the announcement, she shares the album’s first single and visual for ‘Fruit Loop.’ The hard-hitting track, produced by YoungFyre (who is known for producing her hit ‘Conceited’) exudes the unrelenting confidence that has become a Flo Milli signature. The boisterous visual is directed by Chandler Lass (Latto, Ari Lennox).

In anticipation of the kick off of her August ‘Talk To Me Nice’ tour, Sa-Roc has today shared her song of the same name and the first single from her forthcoming album. ‘Talk To Me Nice,’ continues the tradition of Sa-Roc sharing a deep connection with her audience, with poise, tenacity and masterful skill. The new single, produced by Sol Messiah, takes a more assertive tone, as she focuses on challenging the industry while demanding respect from it. The sparse, yet menacing track centers Sa-Roc’s voice, showcasing her dextrous wordplay, natural wit and agility. Sa-Roc has also shared the official video for ‘Talk To Me Nice,’ with the visuals engaging with light and shadow in stark contrasts to symbolize the decentering and marginalization she and many others have experienced in life. The video, directed by David Maxwell, features guest appearances from dancer Storyboard P and members of the art collective Art Comes First, and notably incorporates Afro-punk aesthetics as well the jewelry and motifs of many Black, African and Indigenous cultures, as a symbolic nod to those cultures that have long countered the prevailing social narrative.
Buzzing Brooklyn rapper and co-founder of rapidly rising hip-hop collective 41, Jenn Carter, unleashes a new single and music video entitled ‘Reverse’ featuring 2Rare via RiteOrWrongKVH Entertainment/Republic Records. Switching gears sonically, the track layers an ethereal loop above drill-style 808s before the momentum gives way to a bumping Jersey Club-style rhythm. Against this backdrop, Jenn’s punchy flow and braggadocious bars instantly make a mark. Philadelphia phenomenon 2Rare pulls up with a scorching verse of his own as the song culminates on a chantable hook. The visual matches this energy as Jenn and 2Rare turn up surrounded by friends and no shortage of drip.

Lola Brooke’s 2023 is off to a seriously impressive start. She began by collaborating with Maiya The Don on the remix of Flo Milli’s ‘Conceited,’ which came shortly before a solo effort called ‘So DISRESPECTFUL.’ For her latest release, Brooke shared ‘Just Relax’, much to her fan’s pleasure. As REVOLT notes, the Reefa and Teddy Da Don-produced beat samples Black Sheep’s ‘The Choice Is Yours,’ taking us back in time. To match those vibes, the New Yorker filmed a throwback-inspired video, directed by Shanghaii, which sees her letting loose at a house party with plenty of friends. [via HNHH]

With a distinct style that blends hip-hop and dancehall in a seamless manner, Leicester rap artist Trillary Banks returns to the forefront with her new single ‘Bruce Lee’. As the title suggests, it is a pure showcase of bravado, encased with Trillary’s unique patois-infected flow and unapologetic lyrics. Once again, she teams up with longtime collaborator Maschine man Tim who cooks up this gritty flute-laden bass-heavy drill soundscape that is tailor-made for Trillary’s energetic performance. The accompanying visuals also accentuate the track with its blend of performance shots of Trillary with her squad running the streets and also capturing some shots in the gym. We see Trillary in both streetwear and a karate gi as she exudes an unfiltered demeanour while fully expressing herself. [via Earmilk]

Baby Tate and Saweetie team up in the colorful video for the remix of Tate’s 2016 single ‘Hey, Mickey!’ The original found Tate lamenting a love interest’s noncommital ways with a twist on Toni Basil’s 1981 hit. After the original went viral on TikTok, Tate tapped Saweetie to add her own flippant verse. Meanwhile, the video, which appears to be set in a Polly Pocket-like miniature universe, sees the two rappers clubbing and taking a plush road trip in the back of a pickup truck. [via Uproxx]
