Cardi B has released a new single, ‘Enough (Miami),’ which follows ‘Like What (Freestyle)’ from a couple weeks ago. North Carolina rapper Rapsody has announced a new album, Please Don’t Cry, due May 17 via We Each Other/Jamla/Roc Nation. The 22-song album features Erykah Badu, Lil Wayne, Baby Tate, Alex Isley, Phylicia Rashad, Keznamdi, and more, and it includes recent single ‘Asteroids’ (ft. Hit-Boy), as well as the just-released ‘Stand Tall.’ “‘Stand Tall’ is the first song I recorded when I started working on this album in 2020,” Rapsody says. “I would say it represents my desire to speak to my humanness in the most free way. It started me on the journey, and it required me to be fearless, which is why I titled it ‘Stand Tall’ – be firm in who you are, legs straight, shoulder back, chest out.” The two-minute song comes with a five-minute video/short film featuring Rapsody in conversation with friend and actress Sanaa Lathan. “Sanaa was one of my guides and supporters on that journey,” Rapsody continues. “She offered so much insight, support, and tools to usher me through; as well as inspiring me with her own vulnerability. Barkaa has shared her latest single ‘We Up’, accompanying the release with an official music video. The single, which was produced by frequent Barkaa collaborator jayteehazard, and sees the rapper deliver a victorious anthem atop thudding bass and piercing strings. Operating at whiplash pace, Barkaa commits to remaining self-assured within relationships, friendships and everything in between. “I wanted to write something that pumped on the stage, that felt good spitting, that uplifted my people and hyped them up,” Barkaa explained in a press statement. “I wanted to create something fun, something cheeky and make a statement on what the concrete jungle raised.” Barkaa said the single is a reminder of her diversity as a rapper, a declaration that tells listeners she “worked my fucking ass off to get me to where I am today.” The accompanying music video was directed by Kieran Satour, and follows Barkaa as she takes a joyride with friends en route to a particularly rowdy night out. Polaris Music Prize-shortlisted rapper DijahSB shares their latest body of work, the much-anticipated Tasty Raps Vol. 2 EP, produced by Clairmont the Second alongside the blistering focus track, ‘I Feel Like Rihanna.’ On Tasty Raps Vol 2, we see a different sonic side to DijahSB, the long-awaited second installment of the EP series with the title aptly inspired by direct praise from Kid Cudi himself – who is also a major influence in Dijah’s work and drive to normalize rapping with honesty and raw emotion. On ‘I Feel Like Rhianna,’ we get glitchy-but-effective percussion on a dreamy, swagger-dappled track. It’s tongue in cheek, as they rap about their experience with success, weighed against their ongoing struggles with mental health. Ever earnest and open about their struggles with depression, mental health, and financial instability, DijahSB balances their candid, frank storytelling with lyricism that’s always playfully dexterous; inspirational but never didactic.

Germany-born, London, UK-based rapper Ivorian Doll returns with ‘Diss To Dillon’ as she sets off her Doll Freestyle Series. The track sees her in her element and showcases her skill as a rapper who can hold her own as a lyricist. Over the barebones menacing soundscape, Ivorian Doll delivers a plethora of verbal darts toward a certain cheating individual, reminding him that he is not up to par. IVD sure knows the assignment and doesn’t hold back with lines like “disrespect to me, I ain’t the one, come again hoe/ finger up your bum, I made you scream, do your friends know?” and I must add that was just a tip of the iceberg. The track comes with a performance shot-themed video directed by Aminould that captures Ivorian Doll in her element doing what she knows best. Last year, the wildly talented Tampa rapper and singer Doechii broke out with her starmaking she / her / black bitch EP and signed with TDE. This year, Doechii has released the Kodak Black collab ‘What It Is (Block Boy)’ and rapped over the UGK/Outkast classic ‘Int’l Players Anthem’ on her own track ‘Universal Swamp Anthem.’ This fall, Doechii will tour arenas as the opening act on the Doja Cat/Ice Spice tour. Now, she’s got a very fun new single called ‘Booty Drop.’ ‘Booty Drop’ samples Jersey club producer Uniiqu3’s 2018 track ‘Bubble Gum.’ Weirdly, though, the track was produced by Stargate, the Norwegian production team who worked on a bunch of Rihanna’s biggest hits. On ‘Booty Drop,’ Doechii adapts beautifully to the sped-up Jersey club style sing-rapping double-time horny strip-club come-ons. Best line: “Eat that ass fast like DoorDash/ I don’t need knee pads, I just need to see that.” The song’s video takes place on a yacht and involves a lot of butts, and it’s filmed on what looks like an early-’90s VHS tape. Sexyy Red and Sukihana have proved that they’ve got what it takes to make things raunchy with the video for their new single, ‘Hood Rats’. Combining a mix of sophisticated and ratchet to create their own “sophisti-ratchet” style, the dynamic duo give a nod and a wink to BAPS, the classic film starring Halle Berry and Natalie Desselle. Red and Suki raise hell and holy water in a country club, slurping down champagne and twerking for a Joe Biden analogue while leaving nothing to the imagination, as Webbie and other celebs like Summer Walker and Saucy Santana make special guest appearances. If it wasn’t clear as to who Sexyy Red and Sukihana are trying to entice using their feminine charms, Sukihana spells it out: “I swallow n-ggas/ I really feel like an elephant/ Tell Joe Biden I wanna suck on the President!” [via Hip Hop DX]

After releasing two new singles last week, ‘Birthday Girl’ and ‘SHOT O’ CLOCK,’ Saweetie has returned with an official music video for the latter song. Featuring production by London on Da Track, the single samples Suzanne Vega’s 1987 original song ‘Tom’s Diner,’ which appeared on her platinum album Solitude Standing. “Tonight we gettin’ white girl wasted / Clique full off baddies, no basics,” Saweetie raps over the beat. “This gon’ be an icy girl favorite / Shots got me leanin’ like The Matrix.” True to its title, the music video, directed by Lauren Dunn, sees Saweetie and her friends take shots in between montages of them dancing to Bollywood-inspired hip-hop choreography. Doja Cat has heard everything that her haters — and her fans — have said about her, and she’s ready to fully accept that she is whatever they say she is with ‘Paint The Town Red.’ The official video features Doja engaging in all the typical “satanic”-type imagery that gets social media speculating about Illuminati and other beings. She dances with the Grim Reaper, rides a goat-like mythosaur, and even poses with chunks of meat meant to look like human flesh. And she seems to also take direct aim at all the recent criticism about her and her life choices when she raps, “Yeah, bitch, I said what I said / I’d rather be famous instead / I let all that get to my head / I don’t care, I paint the town red.” Classic R&B fans, too, will take notice that Doja Cat does this all over a chopped-and-screwed sample of Dionne Warwick‘s ‘Walk On By’. Produced by HitMaka, Nick Papz, and Xander, the beat samples the DMX classic ‘Ruff Ryders’ Anthem’. In between the instantly recognizable Swizz Beatz keyboard riff, Rican rips right through the beat with precise bars only for Lola to counter with an equally punchy cameo. Tributes to hip-hop’s 50th anniversary are far from over. Flo Milli is joining in on the flower giving on her new freestyle, ‘Flo Milli.’ Simply put, the tribute is a lovefest on rap megastar Lil Wayne. From the signature deadlocks to the video’s original concept, Flo Milli aimed to honor the New Orleans native through his 2008 song, ‘A Milli.’ As Flo Milli borrowed the classic rap beat, she also takes some additional creative liberties by flipping several of the Young Money boss’ lyrics, including her stanza, “She’s a beast / She’s a dog / She’s a muthef*ckin’ problem / Claiming she want what but be running like a possum / You can’t stand ’em then you drop ’em / Hoes get messy imma mop ’em / hallucinogenic have ’em rolling when I rock ’em.” The entertainer took to Instagram to share the record’s cover art in which she continued her praise of Lil Wayne, writing, “Lil Wayne is still the GREATEST RAPPER ALIVE,” in the caption. Tkay Maidza has announced a new album, Sweet Justice, coming in November. The follow-up to her 2016 self-titled debut (plus a couple of Last Year Was Weird EPs) features the Flume-produced ‘Silent Assassin,’ which dropped earlier in July, plus additional production from Stint and Kaytranada. Now, Tkay is sharing the new single ‘Ring-A-Ling,’ which also has a video directed by Jocelyn Anquetil. Here’s what Tkay had to say about Sweet Justice, which also has collabs with Lolo Zouaï, Amber Mark, and Duckwrth: “Sweet Justice was a way for me to channel my emotions from what I’ve experienced in the last two years. It’s a diary of things and thoughts I’ve kept to myself.
