Blending an Italo Disco pulse with homespun tape echoes, synth FX, a bubbling baseline, flute, and additional vocals from May Rio (Dots Per Inch), ‘Renaissance Affair’ is an ode to the mythmaking and roleplaying in New York’s downtown nightlife.

Shallowhalo’s Allyson Camitta shares, “‘Renaissance Affair’ was written over this past summer. I was going out regularly to a friend’s weekly DJ gig at Home Sweet Home in the Lower East Side and then took a picturesque trip upstate to the Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo, New York where we dressed up in medieval outfits and took a bunch of mushrooms. The song is a mashup of the pageantry and escapism of dressing up and going out in the city – the fantasy of it all.”

Alongside the new single is a video clip filmed by Jackie Young (Catcher), who is known for documenting the New York indie scene on their video camera. Starring Allyson Camitta and May Rio (who sings backing vocals on The Dare’s song ‘Girls’ alongside Camitta, and also features on this track), the video was filmed in the Lower East Side of New York City, and follows the single’s theme of roleplaying and mythmaking, with the duo dressed in theatrical costumes.

Jackie shares, “I incorporated footage from the times over the last few months I’ve seen Allyson and May play around New York. Each time, I’ve re-recorded over existing footage on the same worn-down Mini DV Tape, creating an analog glitching collage which felt fitting for how the New York music scene can feel like a fast-paced blur.”
