Kay Greyson has released her brand-new single ‘Hollywood’ via Soul Kitchen/EMI North. The track follows ‘On The Table’, her first since linking up with EMI North earlier this year. ‘Hollywood’ aims for the stars. Like previous single ‘On The Table’, it’s music with a global reach. The track stakes out Kay’s dream, her ambition, whilst being aware of the pitfalls that accompany it. Musically the track is a blistering, bold take on classic hip-hop, brought up to date with her own take and a sound that is proudly from the north-east of England. Kay talks about ‘Hollywood’: “‘Hollywood’ is a story of two parts, one side is the money and rock and roll side that we all focus on but the other is the vulnerability that comes with chasing a dream. The song tells the story of where I came from to get to where I wanted to be and how it feels when it’s too late to turn back and be who you were before.”

Rising UK rapper Plain Jane unleashes the visuals to her stellar debut single, ‘6 Shots’ directed by Josh Pear via GRM Daily. The gritty and unfiltered track reflects her experiences growing up in a disadvantaged area. With fierce lyrics and a pounding beat, ‘6 Shots’ introduces Plain Jane as a fearless new voice in UK Rap, delivering her message with unapologetic authenticity. Plain Jane’s sharp delivery and unvarnished storytelling offer a glimpse into her reality, drawing listeners in with her raw energy. The song is accompanied by a powerful music video that intensifies its message, visually capturing the defiance and determination that define her artistry. Through this debut, Plain Jane challenges conventions and sets herself apart as an artist unafraid to speak her truth. Her fearless approach and powerful narrative are sure to resonate with audiences, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting career ahead. Watch the music video below and be sure to add this to your favourite rap playlists.

Toronto-based musical giant, Haviah Mighty independently releases ‘Double The Fun,’ a single that aims to Double The Fun for anyone who listens, with the confident, slick bars you have come to expect from Mighty. Haviah Mighty will never overdo it, even when venturing out to explore new soundscapes and styles. She has an unmatched sense of reserve in the production that keeps things as sharp as a brand knew chef’s knife, and she is cooking gourmet. On ‘Double The Fun’ things are no different, with bass bumping to an easy trap beat, gang vocals and stealthily layered synths adding to builds that make it feel like you’re right there in that ‘Double The Fun’ kitchen with her. Haviah Mighty says that ‘Double The Fun’ is “a theme song for the underdogs. The ones who have to work twice as hard for half the results. Those who find beauty in the journey of challenges, those who never let the naysayers win, those who never let doubts prevail. ‘Double The Fun’ is about MAXIMIZING potential and quite literally doubling up on the things we love. With crazy hard-hitting production and a catchy chorus, this deeper message song could take over nightclubs, strip clubs, cruises, airpods or TikTok!” Along with the track we get a video made in collaboration with FELA, a woman-owned/Black owned creative company whose motto is “Everything we do comes back to our motto: Own Your Culture, Tell Your Stories.” It’s filmed in black and white to emphasize the scenes themselves, which accentuate the mundanity of everyday life – waiting for the bus stop, commuting to work – and juxtaposing them against the exact opposite of that. Haviah wants you to feel the pressure of a challenge, and the expressiveness in overcoming it. ‘Double The Fun’ is about duality… in many ways, it is about the basis of human nature.

The music scene is buzzing as Shaybo, the dynamic artiste known as “The Queen of the South,” drops her latest track, ‘Money’. Produced by the renowned Legendury Beatz, this rap/hip-hop anthem is a celebration of financial success and the confidence it brings. ‘Money’ is a track to celebrate success, an embodiment of the exhilarating feeling of achieving financial milestones. With its infectious beats and empowering lyrics, the track captures the essence of celebration and motivation, making it a perfect anthem for anyone striving for success. [via the Lagos Review]

Tomorrow, Doechii will release her new mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal — hard-ass title, hard-ass cover art. Over the past few weeks, Doechii has caused an internet stir with her Swamp Sessions freestyle series, and some of those tracks — ‘Nissan Altima,’ ‘Bullfrog,’ ‘Catfish’ — are on the new tape. So is ‘Boom Bap,’ the new single that Doechii has released. ‘Boom Bap,’ from its title on down, feels like a joke about the idea that Doechii prefers to rap over fired-up dance beats. The song is only two minutes long, but it goes through a lot of changes. On the intro, Doechii locks into a head-spinning rappity-rap flow while also mocking the idea that that’s what she should be doing: “They want real rap from a bitch like they outrappin’ a bitch.” The production, from Casper and DJ Miss Milan, shifts from New York-style soul-sample rap to something closer to house while Doechii screams that she’s everything. It’s a cool idea executed in a cool way. [via Stereogum]

Newcomer Southwest London rapper Ellie Saprano introduces herself to the music scene with her debut single ‘Southside Bad Bitch’, showcasing her nostalgic, yet modern flair as she comes in the game with lyrics full of confidence, style and uniqueness. ‘Bad Bitch’ showcases Ellie Saprano’s stylistic flow over a beat produced by Blueee. The video encapsulates the ‘bad bitch’ vibes full of drip, cars and more females. Ellie Saprano is the newest signing to UK rap veteran Corleone’s GB Records – tying her to a tight knit musical family (TeeZandos, ISong) resonating with themes of strength and unity. Corleone, a significant influence in Ellie’s journey, recognised her potential early on and provided unwavering support. “One of the most exciting moments for me so far has been the process of creating the track and filming the music video for my debut single, ‘Southside Bad B*tch’. This experience has not only boosted my confidence, but also reinforced my belief that I am on the right track and following the correct path in my musical journey”.

On the fast track towards a major breakthrough, genre-bending hip-hop phenomenon TiaCorine unleashes the slick and scorching new music video for ‘Shamone’ out now via Interscope Records. It graces the tracklisting of her tastemaker-approved new Almost There EP—out now. A two-minute burst of braggadocios bravado, ‘Shamone’ spotlights TiaCorine’s bulletproof bars and fiery flow front-and-center. 808s rattle through shaky synths, and she warns, “I’m still never gonna pick up.” In the accompanying Moshpxt directed visual, she descends upon the desert. Letters spell out “The End of the World” in the sand, and this hip-hop femme fatale proceeds to body the beat with the force of an apocalyptic event. An outfit change and a smoke break gives way to a final scene of TiaCorine against the backdrop of a setting sun, donning fur, rapping unapologetically with confidence.

South London force Shaybo returns with new single ‘Get It’. Out now, the single finds Shaybo reclaiming her throne – yep, the Queen of the South is back. Switching it up once more, she’s recruited new production talent, pushing herself harder in the booth than ever before. As a result, the Nigerian born, Lewisham raised magnet is on top form with this new track. Legendury Beatz take control of the sonic palette – the duo behind seminal afrobeats hits ‘Ojuelegba’ and ‘Essence’ by Wizkid – but there’s a UK twist in there, too. Shaybo shows her finesse with each bar, the regal South London talent going hard from the off. As ever, there’s a dose of femme energy, with ‘Get It’ presenting the balance between confronting expectations and producing something true to herself. [via Clash]

With Atlanta, Georgia being one of the hubs for hip-hop, you already know that there is going to be an abundance of varying talent and styles. Anycia is someone who does not exactly fit into one specific lane. That is apparent through her casual mic presence and lyricism. It has quickly become an easily recognizable sound and it is why she will be cementing her star status very shortly when she releases her debut album. ‘BAD WEATHER’ from Anycia is now most likely the third single from the LP. Born from her lived experiences of racism and witnessing the countless events of social injustice around the world, ‘say shit!’ is a courageous showcase of not only her pioneering sound, but her energy to work towards a better world. Explaining further, Dirtsa shared: “This song was inspired by my will to explore and stretch my sound further. I wanted to explore my sound but also black music in general and channel all this in a different way. In situations of injustices, I don’t think we should stay silent. When people are trying to share things with us that matters to them I don’t think we should stay silent. This song particularly deals with that and resilience to that.”

Shaybo is back with new single ‘Crocs’, which marks her first new material of 2022. ‘Crocs’ is Shaybo’s first new single since joining forces with NSG on ‘Don’t Play Me’ in November last year, and lands with a Kevin Hudson-directed video.
Erica Banks hasn’t let her foot off the pedal since she emerged with ‘Buss It.’ The song became an instant smash on TikTok, propelling her career from buzzing Internet phenom into a star in her own right. Although it’s been roughly two years since she released her self-titled project, fans are eagerly awaiting to hear what she has coming. This week, she slid through with her new single, ‘Throw Some Mo (Do It).’ The strip club-ready record is produced by K Major and ItzDoeDoeBih, who flip Khia’s ‘My Neck, My Back’ into a bass-heavy trunk-rattling Texas banger. Erica Banks delivers with ferocity on the sex-posi record. Hopefully, it’s a sign that her new project will be arriving sometime this summer. [via HNHH]

Rico Nasty has been sporadically dropping singles over the past year — most recently was ‘Vaderz’ last month, and then the Flo Milli-featuring ‘Money’ a few months before that. Now, she’s back with another new track, the distortion-heavy ‘Intrusive.’ “This song tells the story of intrusive thoughts with some industrial elements,” Rico Nasty said in a statement. “The song is a true free style for me and takes you for a ride through my mind.” This track and ‘Vaderz’ are supposed to be featured on what is described in a press release as a “very personal upcoming project.” Rico’s last project was 2020’s Nightmare Vacation, her studio debut.
