Spanish Rock Band Strangers are excited to share their new single ‘Echoes’, out now via Frontiers Music Srl.
Forsaken Rite, the symphonic folk metal warriors from the northern plains of Edmonton, Canada, are thrilled to announce the release of their latest music video ‘Call to War’. This powerful and visually stunning video is the second single from their upcoming EP The Forgotten West, out this coming September 2024. ‘Call to War’ showcases Forsaken Rite’s signature blend of epic storytelling, intricate musicianship, and high-energy performance, as they explain: “‘Call to War’ is the finale of The Forgotten West journey. The war party has made it to their destination… for now. They have found villages and life isn’t so bad, it’s different than before, but yet… oh so familiar. But as if destiny had other plans, peace lasts only so long before history begins to repeat itself as new enemy forces move in to take what little the village has left. Call to War is a battle speech and a rallying cry, because this time, we all stay to fight, unlike so long ago, before the journey of The Forgotten West.” The drums of war are sounding and Forsaken Rite’s final rally cry leads warriors into battle. “Call to War” is a heavy war song led by the power of unclean vocals as clean vocals build the narrative. The song’s bridge is a grand battle speech and a march towards victory climaxing in a multi-layered instrumental and vocal breakdown to round out the EP.

Valkyrie’s Fire are a symphonic power metal band from Nashville, Tennessee, born of true emotional passion that ignites our hearts and unlocks the deepest mysteries of the soul. The band just premiered a new music video titled ‘Warrior of the Night’ which is the first single & music video taken from their upcoming EP album Ascension which will be released on November 8 via Eclipse Records. The album was produced and mixed by Joey Grimaldi, and mastered by Jack Kosto (Firewind, Seven Spires). The music video for ‘Warrior of the Night’ was directed by Austin Dellamano at Weems Creative. “’Warrior of the Night’ is a special song to each of us because of the meaning behind the lyrics”, says bass guitarist Dave Hale. “This song is dedicated to the fans who tirelessly support musicians every night, and also to the musicians around the world who endlessly pour their heart and soul into the music they create. Just like any true warrior, the musicians fight the ongoing battle to bring exposure to their music, and the fans also fight the battle by showing their support for those musicians.” Vocalist Adam Sanders adds, “The album, and this song, is steeped in Norse mythology, and as such, the lyrics also hint at that, while keeping their relevance to the fans and musicians. Each of us fights a battle in the field of music, and each of us must remain strong and give our all for those things we fight so valiantly for.” Vocalist Bettie Floyd concludes, “Our goal with this debut music video is to reach into the hearts and souls of fans worldwide and deliver to each of them the epic power and symphonic metal that we are so proud to have created. We want to show the world that Valkyrie’s Fire is not only just a new band on the scene, but a force to be admired in the music scene among our peers, fellow musicians, and fans around the world. We truly love the music we create, and we are grateful to be doing what we love!”.

SPINEFARM is pleased to announce the signing of GORE. — vocalist Haley Roughton, guitarist Alex Reyes, and bassist Devin Birchfield — to the global roster. The band will release the A Bud That Never Blooms EP on October 24. The EP was produced by Miserable Productions, with Ben McGuiness and Caleb Freihaut serving as co-producers. The EP was mixed by Cody Stewart. Now, the band has also shared the video for ‘Babylon,’ its debut single for its new label home. “‘Babylon’ is about my desire to have a pure, somewhat traditional love,” offers Roughton, laying her emotional cards face up on the table. “The dream of having a strong and loving husband, with children and an unconditionally loving home being the center of my universe (and is what I felt I lacked in my childhood). Through the years, and all of the relationships I have failed to sustain, that dream has yet to come true. This song is the eulogy of that dream. In other words, ‘Babylon’ is the action of putting that dream of being a wife and a mother to rest, for now.” Regarding the accompanying visual, Roughton shares, “The music video uses religious imagery to depict the dream for a pure, unconditional love that is slowly dying. In the video, the pastor can be seen as everything that causes a relationship to fail — ego, external pressure from others, unhealed inner wounds — even the other person in the relationship. The pastor is seen slowly killing the woman with the dream by holding her underwater, while she is seen crying and begging for the life she wants. From the action of killing her emerges a creature that is completely stripped of hope and innocence. The sludgy, disturbing human-like being can be seen as a symbol of cynicism, resentment and vengeance.”

Massive Scar Era, the visionary Egyptian/Canadian metal project led by Cherine Amr, is thrilled to announce the release of their new single ‘School Girls | بنات المدرسة’. This track, featuring the dynamic vocals of Chaney Crabb from Entheos, is the lead single from their upcoming EP, Assyad, set to drop in October 2024. With ‘School Girls’, Massive Scar Era breaks genre boundaries again, blending progressive rock, post-grunge, Egyptian music, and metal into a captivating sound that resonates deeply with fans worldwide. Amr comments on the unique track: “‘School Girls’ represents a dialogue between the Mu’allima (teacher) spirit, brought to life by Chaney’s voice, and the outside world. The chorus is adapted from the traditional Zar song “Banat el Madrassa,” reflecting a significant era in Egyptian society and feminism. It highlights the pursuit of higher education by middle and upper-class women in the 1950s, symbolizing their aspirations and empowerment. The Mu’allima serves as both a guide within the female Zar realm and a social archetype.”

Texan prog metal quintet Oceans Of Slumber will release their sixth studio album Where Gods Fear To Speak through Season Of Mist Records on September 13. It’s the band’s first for their new label and they have just shared their latest single from the upcoming album, The Given Dream, which you can listen to below. The song features a powerhouse of a vocal performance from singer Cammie Beverly. “This is one of the most tiring songs to sing on the album”, Beverly explains. “I’m belting from the beginning. Going from a belt to soprano back to a belt is not a break. Singing soprano takes more breath than singing mid-range or alto. You have to hold your vocal cords tight.” “We’re pre-programmed with this dream of how our lives are supposed to turn out”, Dobber Beverly, band leader, drummer and Cammie’s husband says of the new single. “The white picket fence. A career at the tech company down the road. Two and a half kids to go along with the ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ poster on your wall”. “Buying into that idea will make you feel like you’re on the right track,” adds Cammie. “When really, we’re just blinded. That dream doesn’t exist”. [via Louder]

EPICA singer Simone Simons has shared the music video for the song ‘Cradle To The Grave’ from her just-released debut solo album. Vermillion, which was made available on August 23 via Nuclear Blast Records, is a collaboration with Simone’s longtime musical partner Arjen Lucassen (AYREON). The music video for ‘Cradle To The Grave’ features a guest appearance by ARCH ENEMY’s Alissa White-Gluz and can be seen below. Simons and Lucassen comment: “‘Cradle To The Grave’ is about the universal experience of navigating life’s ups and downs and the quest for meaning and purpose. It views the human condition as one of struggle and resilience, where despite efforts to build and achieve, there’s an underlying acceptance that life is brief, finite and often cruel.” [via Blabbermouth]

ENEMY INSIDE have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘Sayonara,’ is the brand new single from the German alternative/symphonic metal band and follows on from their previous single, ‘What We Used To Be,’ which was released last month. Speaking about the new song and its accompanying music video, the band shares, “’Sayonara’ is a real power track. Not only its title spreads Japanese vibes, the video is also heavily inspired by the anime style. The message of the song gets clear really quick: Don’t let the haters get you down. If they’re talking about you, you’ve done everything right. I am who I am and if you don’t like it, SAYONARA!” [via Distorted Sound]

Speaking about the new single, the band says, “’Luminate’ is a song written about finding light in the darkest places. Having those moments of clarity, understanding you don’t have to struggle through adversity alone. It’s about realising your true worth and being able to find strength when you need it most.” [via Distorted Sound]

Ice cold Finnish modern metal band, Arctis, have announced their self-titled debut album, set for release via Napalm Records on November 1. Drawing inspiration from the mythical winters and mystical summers of the North, the Finnish metal minds of talented misfits Arctis fearlessly navigate their futuristic battleship through a treacherous ocean where ferocious waves of metal clash against reefs of rock and pop, birthing a sonic assault of epic proportions. To celebrate the announcement of their debut album, the first single ‘I’ll Give You Hell’ and their first official music video ever, has been released. The song explores the complexities of romance with their catchy anthem. Arctis comment on their new single: “We’re excited to drop our debut track and music video, ‘I’ll Give You Hell,’ a powerful anthem that was one of the first songs we ever wrote. This release marks the start of something big, and we can’t wait to share more of what we’ve been working on. Stay tuned—this is just the beginning.” [via Brave Words]

The Brazilian rising force in Melodic Death Metal, Erudica, have just released their highly anticipated second single, ‘Echoes Of Desolation’, which is now available on all major digital platforms. Following the success of their debut single and music video ‘Gaia’, the band returns with an even more ferocious and impactful sound. Formed in 2020, Erudica is the brainchild of captivating vocalist Caroline Ferreira and skilled guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Patrik Correa. Drawing inspiration from heavyweights such as Arch Enemy and The Agonist, the duo has taken a brave step on their latest release, digging deeper into more classic melodic death/thrash metal. With ‘Echoes Of Desolation’, they move away from the orchestral and symphonic elements of their previous release, opting instead for a raw, aggressive approach marked by crushing, melodic and brutally powerful guitar riffs. Caroline Ferreira‘s vocal prowess shines through on ‘Echoes Of Desolation’ where she unleashes a torrent of rage through her ferocious growls, tackling profound themes that reflect humanity’s final reckoning – a requiem for a world suffering due to the greed of those who are supposed to protect and lead. “Greed! We reap what we sow, in this case our total destruction and annihilation by our own actions”, Caroline comments. [via Metalheads Forever]

Off the back of the success of her previous two releases this year enters ‘MEOW’, an exciting concoction of alternative and progressive metal which laments the everyday life of AILSHA‘s beloved- but annoying- pet cat, Nugget. Boasting three legs, a pretty face and serving a tonne of attitude, ‘MEOW’ describes Nugget’s demands for constant admiration and her persistent pursuit of endless attention. Forever looking down upon everybody else around her with lyrics like “give me a reason why I should come down to Earth, if you won’t look at me when you’re my universe”. In the ‘sparklecore’ artist’s own words; “‘MEOW’ was a fun song to create and was inspired by my cat Nugget’s constant demands for attention. I wanted to write the song from her perspective which I feel applies to most pets- they’re only here for a short time, but a good time, and within that short time we become their whole world. I wanted to sing/scream the lyrics in a way I imagine she would if she could and I tried things with my vocals that I hadn’t tried in a track before. It’s definitely the heaviest song yet and already a hit at my live shows- I can’t wait for people to hear this one.”

Hailing from Brazil, symphonic metal sensation Revengin is thrilled to announce their signing with Wormholedeath Records for the release of their highly anticipated new album, Dark Dogma Embrace, set to drop in early 2025. Formed in 2008 by a collective of seasoned musicians hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Revengin is here to melt your face with their brand of symphonic brutality. To celebrate this monumental signing, the band unleashes their first single, ‘Circle of Mistakes,’ a sonic masterpiece that serves as a powerful introduction to the forthcoming album. ‘Circle of Mistakes’ explores the duality we all carry within ourselves, the denial of our flaws that keeps us trapped in a self-perpetuating cycle of negativity. ‘Circle of Mistakes’ is an anthem for self-awareness. Heavy, pummeling verses lay the foundation for a soaring, powerful chorus that lays bare the complexities of human nature. The song is a call to confront our weaknesses, for it’s only through acceptance that we can truly break free. The track’s closing section beautifully reflects this liberation, a soul unburdened from the shackles that held it back, ready to embrace its full potential. The song’s emotional depth is further amplified by the stunning music video for ‘Circle of Mistakes.’ Scripted by Bruna Rocha and brought to life by director Felipe Borges, the video utilizes a striking color scheme of cyan and amber to symbolize human duality. Shadows and smoke weave a tapestry of emotional intensity, perfectly complementing the song’s lyrical themes. The band’s passionate performance further elevates the viewing experience.

Australian cinemetal outfit Ammify pulls back the curtain on societal greed with the captivating music video for their track ‘Fluffy Little Rats,’ featured on their acclaimed album Lost, Not Hiding, released via Wormholedeath Records. ‘Fluffy Little Rats’ is a tale of greed, control, the pursuit of money and power – this rat race that leads us to a false paradise. There are clowns around to make you feel happy to be alive. Are you a performer in this crazy, creepy circus? Or are you paying the fee to keep the circus going? Directed and produced by Peter Renzullo, the music video for ‘Fluffy Little Rats’ is a visually stunning exploration of the song’s themes.
Norwegian gothic doom metal sensations Evig Natt are thrilled to announce their signing with WormHoleDeath Records for the release of their upcoming album, Vaketimen. This exciting collaboration marks a significant milestone in the band’s journey, promising a new chapter of powerful music and captivating performances. To celebrate their signing with WormHoleDeath, Evig Natt unveils their first single and a stunning accompanying video: ‘Når Lyset Svikte’. Translated as “When the Light Fails,” the track delves into the depths of despair, exploring the emotions of surrendering to darkness when the will to fight fades. The song is sung in Evig Natt’s native Norwegian dialect, specifically on their home island of Karmøy. Vocalist Kirsten Jørgensen feels a deep connection to her lyrics in this dialect, making them more direct and emotionally potent. The video for “Når Lyset Svikte” depicts the terrifying experience of sleep paralysis, where the sufferer may experience hallucinations upon waking or falling asleep. The visuals capture the sheer terror of this phenomenon. The concept was brought to life by the immensely talented filmmaker Thomas Mortveit (Shady Shades) and his incredible crew, with support from Filmkraft AS.

SIMONE SIMONS has released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘R.E.D.’, is taken from the EPICA vocalist’s upcoming debut album, Vermillion, which is scheduled to be released in August this year, via Nuclear Blast Records. Speaking about the new song, Simons shares, “’R.E.D.’ deals with the rise of artificial intelligence, imagining a future where the creation begins to outpace the creator. It reflects on the AI’s growing self-awareness and its unfulfilled desire to experience emotions, something that its synthetic nature makes impossible to ever realize. The song also looks at the double-edged nature of technological advancements and the profound existential questions that are becoming ever more important to address.” [via Distorted Sound]

Wargasm have unleashed the new single ‘70% Dead’ featuring Slipknot singer Corey Taylor. It’s the latest high-profile collab for the UK electro-punk duo, who have released past tracks with Fred Durst, Bad Omens, and Ho99o9, among others. Last year, Wargasm — comprised of Milkie Way and Sam Matlock — supported Taylor on his US solo tour, leading to the collaboration on ‘70% Dead.’ “We were on the road in the USA with Corey,” stated Wargasm. “Sam ended up jumping on a mic with him during his set and we just felt like the voices sounded right together. It totally made sense to do something fresh with the three of us and well… you don’t ask, you don’t get.” The duo continued, “Some OG fans might recognize the lyrics. This has been a long time coming. ‘70% Dead’ is a cry-out at a world gone mad; war, disease, inequality. It feels like something is brewing.” In a social media tease earlier this week, Wargasm posted a phone conversation between Way and Matlock, in which Matlock complains that the band hasn’t released any new music this year thus far. Way tells Matlock, “Why don’t you call that guy you really like, the shouty guy?” The shouty guy, aka Taylor, contributes his instantly recognizable guttural vocals to the uptempo track, blending flawlessly with the clean singing of the two Wargasm members.
Living Dead Girl — the pop-metal project helmed by powerhouse vocalist-bandleader Molly Rennick — are about to kick off a big North American tour, and on the eve of the first date, they teamed with Revolver to premiere the new video for their biting March single ‘Ugly.’ Rennick previously described Living Dead Girl as representing the two sides of her split personality — “one wears baby pink and Hello Kitty and listens to pop music, and the other a goth girl in fishnet stockings” — and the ‘Ugly’ video follows suit. It’s at once silly and violent, cutesy and incisive, delivering its social commentary in a fun, splatstick package. “‘Ugly’ is a song I wrote from a place of frustration, knowing many fellow women could relate,” Rennick tells Revolver. “It’s about wanting to be taken seriously for your contributions and skills without being objectified or undermined in any profession or passion. When it came to making a music video, we wanted to bring that idea to life, but in true Living Dead Girl form, it still needed to have an element of fun and humor. Even with a serious message, we still are a band that likes to have fun in everything we do. I paid some subtle homage to The Powerpuff Girls and their message of girl power and empowerment, while playing into the aesthetic of a campy horror movie. All while tying it into a gym setting: the place in which every woman just wants to be left alone!” [via Revolver]

New England extreme-metal faction Escuela Grind have officially confirmed a full-length is likewise hitting us later this fall. The band’s Dreams on Algorithms is due out October 18, but they’re previewing it ahead of time with a fittingly disorienting single called ‘Turbulence.’ ‘Turbulence’ shakes things up a bit for Escuela Grind, marking the first time Economou has brought clean singing into the band’s discography. Then again, after a brief bit of Alice in Chains-esque doom-grungin’, the song incorporates a more shrieked and grind-blitzed pace. “It will be immediately obvious when you first hear this song that it is a departure for us,” the vocalist added. “We wanted to take a risk with ‘Turbulence,’ and after performing so many live shows over the last year we were ready to compile all that influence. The clean singing may take some people off-guard coming from a grind/hardcore band, but after touring with Napalm Death, we realized we wanted to incorporate that aspect into our music in a similar way. We definitely wanted a grungy, catchy chorus to sing at all of our upcoming festival appearances, and I hope the fans like the song as much as we do.” [via Revolver]

Astonishing singer-songwriter CHARLOTTE WESSELS (ex-DELAIN) has joined forces with Simone Simons of Epica for her mesmerizing new single entitled ‘Dopamine.’ This track is part of Wessels’ first traditional full-length, full-band solo album, The Obsession, set to be released on September 20 via Napalm Records. Promising a deeply immersive and evocative experience, the two Dutch symphonic metal legends guide listeners through the emotional landscape of SSRI-induced numbness. The Obsession showcases WESSELS’ most mature work to date, blending progressive and heavier soundscapes with catchy elements. CHARLOTTE WESSELS on ‘Dopamine’: “Lyrically, ´Dopamine´ deals with SSRI induced numbness that I experienced a few years ago when I was on Sertraline, a type of antidepressant. While the medication was really helpful, there were so many side effects that I’d never heard of. This song deals with some of them, and while it feels vulnerable to expose the experience, I hope it helps in breaking down the shame and taboo around the topic. Simone reached out to me as I was first opening up about this in an interview, and when the first version of ´Dopamine´ dropped on Patreon (because of course we’re each other’s patrons) she texted how much she liked the song. So when we were working on the album version it only made sense to ask if she’d sing along on the track. I am so happy she agreed and after all of the shared introspection, it was great fun to let loose wearing pink wigs in ball pits and marshmallow pools for the video recordings. Musically, out of the entire new album, ´Dopamine´ went through the biggest transformation. What started out as an EDM demo for a collaboration with a dance duo that never happened, became an acoustic Song Of The Month on Patreon, which then had a massive overhaul when rearranging it with Timo. The new band version is an absolute banger, and the beautiful guest vocals by Simone complete the song.” [via Outburn]

ENEMY INSIDE have released a new music video. The new music video, for the track ‘What We Used To Be’, is the brand new single from the German alternative/symphonic metal band and marks their first new music since 2021’s Seven. Speaking about the new song, vocalist Nastassja Giulia says, “’What We Used To Be’ deals with the topic of a relationship growing apart: whether it’s a romantic relationship, a friendship, or the relationship with yourself. It’s about realising and accepting that situations and people, even yourself, change, and there is no other way than to move on.” Filmed by Jonas Sommer, the music video’s script and story was written by the front-woman herself. She adds, “we were aiming for a cinematic look. We wanted a video that looked more like a movie than a music video and we are really proud how the song and the video turned out.” [via Distorted Sound]

Without Warning, a promising modern metal act from Finland has unleashed their new single ‘Pulse’ with an additional music video. The new single is infused with inspiration from the German underground rave scene, immersing the listener with a sonic landscape filled with industrial sounds and heavy rave elements. ‘Pulse’ vibrates with intensity and infectious rhythms that are a core element in the German rave scenes. The song blends the ferocity of modern metal with the hypnotic allure of underground rave culture. Without Warning invites listeners to immerse themselves in a world where man and machine collide. “The song instantly made me think of an underground rave. An experience where you fully emerge yourself in the rhythm and it becomes synchronized with your pulse, which inspired the song name. With each song we really drive into the surrounding, the emotion and story. ‘Pulse’ showcases Without Warning as a whole, who we are and what our identity is about. It is no coincidence that we wanted to include inspiration from Germany particularly. Germans have a really talented and amazing metal scene, and they have always supported Finnish metal. We’re excited to build a stronger bond with them.” Says vocalist Michaela “Micha” Tuomenoksa. At its core, ‘Pulse’ explores the enigmatic relationship between humanity and technology. Reflecting the interesting and futuristic lore Without Warning has created. ‘Pulse’ is blurring the boundaries between organic and artificial life. With the song, Without Warning aims to capture the essence of the rave experience with a cacophony of sound and intense emotion. “I had a vision about a techno infused song with an intense beat, electronic soundscape and of course a signature touch representing our style. A lot of things happen through the song and it took a while to find the balance. But with efficient teamwork among the band we produced the song as visioned and hope to see ‘Pulse’ make a strong impact on listeners.” Says guitarist and producer Juuso Javanainen.
Four-piece Bristolian alt-metal act MALLAVORA unleashes their destructive new single, ‘SKIN,’ and signs to Marshall Records as they gear up for their debut at this year’s Download festival. As winners of Kerrang! Radio’s THE DEAL competition, the band recorded at The Marshall Studio, produced by the infamous Mikey Demus of Skindred, the band’s latest offering, delves deep into the theme of individuality and defiance against societal norms. ‘Skin’ takes inspiration from Jessica Douek’s personal journey and the challenges of navigating a world that often expects conformity. “It’s about feeling different and being utterly defiant about it,” says Douek. “I have always felt different. I have struggled to understand people and the world around me, and I feel there are unspoken rules I’m unaware of. As a result, I have felt alienated.” Guitarist Larry Sobieraj adds, “The initial idea for the track came during a time where I was feeling utterly frustrated, confused and exhausted by a lifetime of feeling different. We all connected with this topic as a band, and the song evolved from there. I think the result is a true reflection of the feelings we wanted to impart, and Mikey did a great job of helping us craft the emotion into the song.”

Creative powerhouse and genre-collision experimenteer BEX is back with a new single ‘Fight’. ‘Fight’ is a rallying cry in the wake of a relationship breakdown with BEX’ signature scuzzed-up, grumbling basslines propelling a proper punchy chant. The combative track arrives as she looks towards a number of festival performances this summer, as well as a newly-announced headline date at London’s Omeara on 1st November. As BEX says, “’Fight’ is not a love song, it’s the opposite. It’s an acceptance of embarrassment. Loving someone to then have it thrown in your face is embarrassing, when you try your hardest, never fight, and you’re getting along so well, it can be so confusing to find out they were never loyal. Fight is about how blind sighted I was, for so long and the way the whole situation made me feel in the end. Truth is, you never know another person, and trust should never come easy, that’s what I have learnt – you have to let people EARN your trust. Don’t just give it away.”

Heriot have announced their debut album, Devoured by the Mouth of Hell, due September 27 via Century Media. It was recorded with Will Putney (of END, Fit For An Autopsy, Better Lovers) and Josh Middleton (Sylosis, ex-Architects), and it features recent single ‘Siege Lord’ as well as the just-released ‘Foul Void,’ which opens the album. Like the last single, it offers up a futuristic blend of metalcore, death metal, industrial, and more, and the band says it “delves into the inner struggle of an individual facing uncertainties about their faith.” [via Brooklyn Vegan]

Poppy has released an absolutely banging new single, ‘New Way Out’. The musician has followed up last year’s 4/5-rated Zig album – plus mind-blowing 2024 collabs with Bad Omens and Knocked Loose – with a brilliant new tune that leans towards the heavier end of what she’s done across her genre-defying career so far. Bonus: it also features the production work of Jordan Fish, who, since departing Bring Me The Horizon in December, has been busy in the studio with everyone from Architects to Spiritbox – and now Poppy!
EPICA singer Simone Simons has released the official music video for her second solo single, ‘In Love We Rust’. The track is taken from her debut solo album, Vermillion, which will be made available on August 23 via Nuclear Blast Records. Simone, who has been a pioneering force within the world of metal for over two decades as part of EPICA, worked on Vermillion with her musical partner and longtime collaborator Arjen Lucassen (AYREON). Arjen is no stranger to Simone’s soaring operatic voice, one that can stir even a gargoyle’s stone heart to tears. Together they have crafted a sonic universe that befits the influential figure she is. Vermillion emerges as a gargantuan goose-bump generator, a universally touching, stellar tour de force. Simone and Arjen state about ‘In Love We Rust’: “The video was filmed in just one take to keep it as pure and raw as possible. We opted to keep it in black and white so as not to distract from the song or the performance. ‘In Love We Rust’ is quite different from our first single ‘Aeterna’, which shows how diverse this album is. This is one of our favorite songs. We hope you love this as much as we do.” [via Blabbermouth]

European quintet ANKOR have signed to UNFD, and released their first single for the independent heavy label. The band – fronted by Bristol vocalist Jessie Williams, and completed by guitarists David Romeu and Fito Martinez, and bassist Julio López, all from Spain, and drummer Eleni Nota from Athens – have joined forces with UNFD to help propel their next era, having already been building up a dedicated fanbase for the past 20 years. And that’s helped further with the release of new single and video ‘Embers’, which Jessie explains is “a song that mixes EDM with classical ANKOR melodies. A song about dealing with loss and grief. We recorded the music video in a beautiful church in London, and we believe it sends the exact message of the track. “’Embers’ is a journey through the mind of someone living an alternate reality,” she continues, going into detail about the accompanying music video. “Dreaming of what could have been… but the truth is much darker, that’s why we represented it with both dresses. It’s a ceremony of what could have been a wedding and ends up being a funeral, in which she dances alone, knowing none of it will ever happen. It can hit as a negative song, but in her sadness there is hope, as she’ll always be connected to her loss.” [via Kerrang!]

Titled Silhouettes, the sophomore album from the Newcastle-based heavy progressive band Giant Walker follows 2022’s All In Good Time and is scheduled to be released in September this year via Church Road Records. The album will feature the previously released single ‘Make Me’, as well as the newly released ‘Halcion’. Speaking about the creative process behind the new track, guitarist Jamie Southern comments, “The initial idea for the song emerged from a drum groove, although it evolved through several different iterations before culminating into its final form. Sonically, it’s quite dark and angular, and so, when it came to crafting the lyrics, the aim was to encapsulate that feeling of uneasiness that came from the music and weave it into a story. It just so happened that amidst writing the song, I ended up watching a documentary about a serial killer, which felt very fitting to the music, and so, this ultimately shaped the lyrical direction Halcion took.” [via Distorted Sound]

Sydney rebellious rockers Wicked Envy have premiered their formidable new single called ‘Final Descent’. The dominating new track commands attention, taking you on a gut-wrenching final journey through flight. “’Final Descent’ is about the fear of flying and dying in a plane crash,” explains vocalist Desiree Hancock. “I decided to write this song, cause It’s a very relatable topic, as many of my family and friends struggle with this fear of Aerophobia, especially when travelling overseas. The eerie whispering voices and haunting vocals are evident throughout the song to create a sombre feel, as if these voices are from the dead.”The thumping guitars in the main riff/ chorus and pounding drums bring out the emotional, gut-wrenching feelings like turbulence on a flight we have all been taken on. You never know when your number is up. This song is based on the movie Final Destination! As I’m a massive fan of the movie and horror films in general, I thought it would be thrilling to write about a plane crash and the audience left with one question. Will this be the end?“ [via Heavy Mag]
