Co-written with Timothy Nelson and recorded at Debaser Studios, ‘Ghost Of Us’ is a strong follow up to Cotchin’s previous release for 2024, ‘Too Good To Be True’.

Siobhan says, “I brought the idea to him (I just had the first verse and chorus) and we started out playing it as a ballad, but then it quickly escalated into an angry pop-rock anthem. I feel like this track has a nostalgic 90s rock quality to it but I also wanted to make sure it felt modern and of course, authentic.

“However, when I was writing it, I really didn’t know where it came from. But now, having the experiences I do, the meaning has become a lot clearer and more relevant to me. I feel like we write songs just for them to come true, like a self-fulfilling prophecy. No wonder I’m so unlucky in love.”

‘If God Is A Man’ finds Siobhan Cotchin reaching further afield for the first time, not only lyrically, but also in composition, working with Dylan & Carmen from The Money War, as well as Paige Valentine to piece together the song – her first track written in a co-writing session. After sitting on it for over a year, she showed it to her band, who clicked with it straight away. They would push onwards with producer Sam Ford (Abbe May, Birds of Tokyo, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets) of Tone City Records who would engineer and produce the track. Siobhan Cotchin’s ‘twang’ is as prevalent as ever, with ‘If God Is A Man’ splitting the delicate balance of rock-chick inspiration, with Siobhan’s renowned pop-rock proclivities.

Siobhan had this to say about the track: “‘If God is A Man’ is a song with a super strong message, and one that is important to me. It’s about rejecting forced conformity and celebrating who you are and not wanting to change for other people. It’s also a song about losing faith and hope, and I feel as though that’s extremely relevant to the times we are living in. I want to be on the right side of history and stand up for what I believe in. I’m grateful to have a platform like music to spread this message. There’s no room for hatred and discrimination at my shows, and I want people of all walks of life to know that my music is a safe place and they are heard.”

“I wrote this song with Dylan and Carmen from The Money War and Paige Valentine. PaIge, Carmen and Dylan came up with the concept of the song and I fell in love with it, especially that chorus. Dylan and I wrote the verses and bridge together, and we sat on it for a while. I left it on the back burner for about a year and waited until it was the right time. I knew I wanted to record this song when I revisited the song and showed it to the band. They got the vibe straight away and it all fell into place. I feel like this song is still super relevant to the times we’re living in, maybe now more than ever, so it felt right to record and release it.”

“’When The Curtains Close’ is about not being able to recognise someone you love after their actions show their true colors,” she explains of the track. “It’s about feeling betrayed, thinking you should’ve seen the signs earlier but loving someone so much that you don’t want anything to jeopardize it.

“This song was one that basically wrote itself. I was going through a lot at the time, dealing with realizations about someone I was close with. In order to write the song, I just remembered how it felt to be in the presence of this person and the effect it had on me and others around me. It’s a very visceral song and I get transported back to the time I wrote it every time I sing it.”

“‘Fill My Cup’ is a song about being exhausted from life and wanting to know if there’s anything more than what we already have right now,” explains Siobhan. It’s about my fear of not reaching my potential and trying to understand my place in the world. I have written a lot of songs about this existential dread that I think everyone feels and it really helps me cope with those thoughts. I’ve also always wanted to write a drinking song that goes a little deeper and more introspective, but is also fun and anthemic. This song is for anyone who feels a little lost and is struggling to find meaning in these insane times. It has been a crazy few years and I want people to know that they’re not alone.”

“The recording process for ‘Fill My Cup’ was obviously a great time,and was also super different to the last sessions we did for ‘Growing Pains’,” she continues. !’Fill My Cup’ went through a lot of changes, and it was awesome to have Sam’s input into the track and have a different perspective in the studio. I think that is what creates the best results. We all had heaps of fun laying down the track and I’m especially proud of the vocal takes I did. I’m really starting to enjoy recording vocals, it’s not as stressful because I feel more sure of myself and able to try out new things.”

Aged only 21, she performs with a touching and powerful intelligence that belies her youthful experiences, poised to dig deeper and further as she grows.

“‘Growing Pains’ is a super personal song about the realities of growing up,” she explains. “It’s about wanting to avoid all responsibilities of adulthood and the anxieties I think we’ve all faced at some point about who we are and where we fit in the world. It’s kind of an ode to my anxiety and the way it makes me act by ‘ghosting my friends’ and just generally avoiding people. I hope with ‘Growing Pains’, people can find solace and comfort in the lyrics and know it’s completely okay to be scared of the future and not know who you are. It’s all part of being human!”
