“Rossi and I actually met when we randomly sat next to each other in a cycling class. I think we were both wearing glitter, which led to an instant connection,” Sizzy Rocket says. “His energy is just so fun and uplifting it’s contagious. We kept in touch and reconnected on the scene a few years later in LA, and when shit started getting real with the drag bans across the country and attacks on our community we knew we had to combine forces in the studio and make a statement.

“On the surface ‘Freak U Out’ is a slutty, lovesick party banger but when you listen more closely it really is about unapologetic self-actualization. It’s an ode to fearlessly expressing yourself, shaking things up, fucking the system and creating your own space. In other words… let your freak flag fly, baby. This is our anthem.”

“In choosing how we wanted to approach visuals for the single, we just wanted to have campy fun, hence us staging a fake wedding with me as the bride and Sizzy as the groom for our single cover and promo. The song is called ‘Freak U Out’ and we wanted to do just that,” Rossi says. “Personally, I have been so upset by all the talk of banning drag shows around the U.S. that I wanted to show a version of myself that could be and probably would be considered drag to the ‘general public.’ To all the people that are so terrified of a male-presenting person in a dress, then I guess I freaked you out. To everyone else, enjoy the song and dance like there’s nobody watching, or better yet, dance like everybody’s watching.”

“I really just want to feel something. I’m so sick of the numbness, this Tik Tok era, being on my phone all the time and feeling detached from the world,” says Rocket. “No one’s really paying attention anymore but when you look up for one second you realize there’s so much life going on all around us all the time…and we’re missing it. We’re all on our f*cking phones and we’re missing the details that make life beautiful.”

“When I wrote this song it was summer 2020 and we had set up a makeshift studio in an air bnb in Yucca valley,” Rocket continues. “There was so much chaos going on in Los Angeles I just needed to get away from it. And I was drinking a lot of rosé because I was going through a break up and I was really hungover and I was just sick of it all. I actually smacked myself across the face so hard it left a bruise. I didn’t mean to but it just happened… it was like I needed to get myself to wake up and stop wallowing and stop wasting my love and my time and get out there into the world and really live my life and not in some fcking tik tok way. I was just so fcking fed up and it all just came out at once.”

“Live Laugh Love is an art punk extravaganza, two years in the making,” says Rocket. “These songs were truly ripped from my soul during a time when I needed inspiration more than anything. I just showed up to the studio every day fueled by bittersweet memories and wild nights. It’s a collection of my favorite stories I’ve never shared until now. And it finally feels like letting go, which is embedded in the message behind the phrase “Live Laugh Love” if you listen closely.”

The ‘Live Laugh Love’ music video was made with long-time collaborator Worst November. The two road-tripped to Laughlin, NV with a bag of cameras, a handwritten shot list, and a duffel bag of indie-sleaze-inspired looks (cue the bedazzled shades and gas station trucker hat). Shot in a desolate outlet mall in her home state of Nevada, ‘Live Laugh Love’ centers a carefree Rocket employing a photo booth and a portable karaoke machine for her own version of a wild night out. Hearkening back to her childhood performances in Nevada strip malls, she blissfully rocks out to her most punk song to date, embodying the “make the most out of what you have” mentality.

“I wanted to make a hot, gay summer anthem,” Sizzy Rocket says. “Honestly, ‘Rebel Revolution’ is about being gay as fuck. I had to free myself and let go of the fear I was harboring from being shamed and told to hide my gayness early in my career. It’s about taking my power back, the idea that true rebellion comes from within. A rebel is simply someone who dares to show themselves to the world – and this song is calling all rebels.

“I had been doing a lot of songwriting with Fernando Garibay at his studio and it was a dream of mine to get him on the track – ‘Born This Way’ was such a defining record in my life. I was nervous to ask but he actually said yes and we banged out the production in two intense days. He has a way of tapping into an artist’s true essence – the process transformed me and brought my inner pop diva to life. It just means so much to finally feel strong in my own skin and carry on such a powerful message.”
