‘House Of Flames’ could not be a sharper left turn from its predecessor, the 2023 emotive pop-punk single ‘All The Things I’ve Been Avoiding’. Whilst that track displayed the bands extensive range, ‘House Of Flames’ is the band at full throttle; delivering riffs from every direction, a driving rhythm section and a commanding performance from frontwoman Gemma Dusmore. The track’s outro stands out especially here- following a tension-building bridge the track ignites with thunderous double-kick and lightning fast guitars, showcasing the young Melbourne band’s immense musical talent.

Thematically, the song focuses on the relief and regret one can experience in the wake of a toxic relationship. “House of Flames is high energy, cathartic, and angry, it’s a song that we want you to scream in your car to get all those emotions out after someone has done you wrong. The lyrics talk about finally letting go and being free of someone who is bad for you that you kept going back to in the past. The end of a toxic loop if you will,” says Gemma Dunsmore.

On working with Mckee, Dunsmore details the freedom the band were afforded during the recording process – allowing them to test their boundaries and experiment with different sounds to ensure the final product matched what they initially envisioned. “This song was written in the fastest amount of time we’ve ever written any song simply because it was in the heat of the moment where emotions were fresh and everything just flowed out,” Gemma continues. “‘House Of Flames’ is the last of five singles we recorded in our sessions with Beau McKee. We had a lot of fun with him in the studio and he ensured we were all comfortable enough to play around and achieve the exact sound we were looking for.”

‘Apology’ is a song in disguise, presented as a summer-washed pop-punk tune that conceals a darker lyrical undercurrent. Sacrificing none of the dynamism, ‘Apology’ confronts listeners with the confusing duality of the mind. Struggling to make sense of sadness and defeat, lead vocalist Gemma tackles these emotions under the veil of positivity.

The band say, “The lyrics of the song tackle the tough situation of falling out of love with the person you’re with. When things seem to have gone stale and cold but you’re not quite ready to address it, out of the fear of letting go.”

‘Apology’ was recorded between Pony Music, Studio Delos and United POP. This marks the second single the band have collaborated with esteemed producer Beau McKee (Earth Caller, Christopher Dicker, Between You & Me) on.

Gemma continues, “This is one out of five singles we recorded with Beau McKee. We had a lot of fun with him in the studio and he ensured we were all comfortable enough to play around and achieve the exact sound we were looking for.”

“I wrote the lyrics about the frustrations of being perceived as fragile when you have actually been through a lot and survived it. Particularly when dating, I found people would say things such as, “I don’t want to break your heart” and I would find myself thinking, “I’m fine and you’re not that important,” says vocalist Gemma Dunsmore.

Leaping for the jugular, ‘My Name’ is a thrilling showcase of a band that works in harmony and plays to their strengths. Consisting of band members Gemma, Mark Sterner (lead guitar), Sam Pratt (rhythm guitar), Harry Wingrove (bass guitar), and Van Marks (drums) they pull aural influences from iconic front runners Paramore, Turnstile and closer to home with The Dead Love, Waxflower and Slowly Slowly.

‘My Name’ is a delicate balance between power and refinement with Mixing by the inimitable Beau McKee (Delos, Paperweight, Raised) and recording at Pony Music, Studio Delos and United Pop. “The recording process always makes me so nervous but Beau McKee made it such a fun and relaxed process so that we were comfortable enough to mess around and achieve the sound we wanted,” says Gemma.
