Created from a combination of hyperpop influences and field recordings, ‘You and I’ marks a new chapter for artist and producer Tiiva. Today’s new single is the first to be teased ahead of next month’s debut album, transporting listeners into a shimmering world of chopped vocals, dynamic basslines and an energy fit for igniting a dance floor.

Having cultivated a fusion between synthetic and natural elements, ‘You and I’ sees these two worlds collide into an infectious display of dynamic hyperpop. Sharing more, Tiiva explained: “I wanted the synthetic elements of the music to represent a hyper futurism, where ‘you’ is the computer, and ‘I’ is the human, ‘you’ is the binary of the world and ‘I’ is the real person who exists as a changing being that doesn’t fit into any one binary. you and I is the hyper bright world of change.”

Sharing more on the track they explained: “‘Run’ is a song about healing and retrieving yourself among the chaos of the world. It is about discovering your true power and letting go of painful memories to return back to yourself, the kindness of community and reawakening your seemingly impossible dreams. It is about letting go of trauma and allowing yourself to be flawed and human and reframing pain into power and strength.”

Sharing more Tiiva explained: “‘Tornados’ is about possibility and hope through hedonism and thinking about the different directions you can take. It’s inspired from spiritual ideals of using intuition instead of influence, listening to primal voices and leaning into self trust and belief to keep going when things are difficult or confusing in life.”

The release of ‘Tornados’ is the follow up to Tiiva’s debut EP Fireflies which came out at the end of the last year. Shifting their sound into the next room, they return with an outcome that boasts natural development and innovation. Working with talented producer Moritz Kerschbaumer on co-production, ‘Tornadoes’ is the first single to be revealed from their collaboration.

Powerful and illuminating, ‘Cellophane’ comes as a captivating reminder of the importance of art and expression. Created in the depths of lock-down, the euphoric sentiment of the track offers a much needed release.

Sharing more, Tiiva explained: “I wrote this working with Polly remotely across the weirdest time of lockdown. I wanted to write something that felt euphoric and exciting, mirroring a time when dancing felt like a memory. There’s an honest fragility in Polly’s writing that really resonates and working together on this song has felt beautifully cathartic during a time when our horizons felt a lot smaller.”

Having admired Tiiva’s sound and production techniques for a while, Polly Scattergood’s input on the new single came as a natural progression. Sharing more Polly said; “As soon as I heard cellophane ideas started to flow, the song has many layers lyrically. Ultimately it’s all about celebrating each other and the expansive richness that art and music can bring to our lives. I hope it makes anyone listening feel good…”
