Wyldest announces her new album The Universe Is Loading – out November 14 via Hand In Hive. Alongside the announcement, she releases haunting and euphoric new single ‘After The Ending’.

Following last month’s delicate meditation on familial estrangement (‘All It Would Take Is A Phone Call’), new single ‘After The Ending’ finds Wyldest confronting the fragility of the human body, and exploring love and bonds that transcend space and time, all amidst a haze of celestial indie-rock.

With its nods to simulation theory, ancient medicine, and the quiet terror of losing control, the song was written shortly after Wyldest received an endometriosis diagnosis. Opening with a reference to ‘trephining’ (an ancient practice of drilling holes in the skull to release evil spirits), it continues through sci-fi metaphors before arriving at its pivotal bridge refrain: “I’ll look for you, if you seek me out there too… / In our past lives… I’d wait for you / If the time was on our side, We’re passing tides for the moment…”

Speaking more on the release of the new single, Wyldest said: “‘After the Ending’ is a post-apocalyptic pop song, about sustaining love from one existence to the next; “The moment, we lost it / so I’ll find you, after the ending”. It was written with space and time in mind – a scenario whereby a relationship can’t exist in the present reality, perhaps due to life circumstances, timing, or something more extreme, like separation by death – and the promise of finding each other in a different existence where they can be there together.

“It’s very much influenced by surrealist films like ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’, ‘Big Fish’ and ‘The Matrix’ – where the protagonists break earthly, physical laws, cross through parallel universes or simulations to save or be with someone they love. Ultimately the song is about working through adversity to find love, and to fight to keep it alive.”

The self-directed video for ‘After The Ending’ was filmed across the Thames Estuary, the quiet backstreets of southern Portugal, and the mountains of Zillertal, Austria. Blurring the line between digital futures and gothic pasts – a recurring tension throughout the new album – the video weaves together a visual narrative of portals and alternate realities, echoing the song’s themes of transformation and connection across time.

Wyldest returns with her poignant new single ‘All It Would Take Is A Phone Call’. Out now via Hand In Hive, the track release follows her widely adored 2022 album Feed The Flowers Nightmares.

A delicate meditation on familial estrangement (“Now you’re just another memory / Locked away inside my veins / On your way to leave an everlasting stain”), ‘All It Would Take Is A Phone Call’ channels the quiet ache of a relationship defined more by blood than by real connection.

The accompanying self-shot video, filmed by Wyldest on the moors of Connemara in Western Ireland, draws a poetic parallel between the song’s theme of lost connection and the birthplace of modern communication. “I came across a big egg-shaped monument called the Marconi and was fascinated by it. It was in the middle of nowhere – standing alone as a tribute to Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of the first wireless telecommunication device. I thought, ironically, that was a great link,” Wyldest says.

Sitting at the intersection of ambient dream-pop and intimate singer-songwriter confessionals, Wyldest’s unmistakably weightless vocal is set against a backdrop of skeletal guitars and airy production textures – recalling the stillness of early Cat Power or the emotional incision of Sharon Van Etten.

The song’s unhurried pace allows its emotional gravity to settle, drawing the listener into a space of painful reflection and quiet acceptance. Delivered with an almost terrifying emotional precision, Wyldest captures something rarely articulated in song: the quiet, slow ache of becoming strangers with someone you once called family. Speaking on the track, Wyldest said:

“This song is about the loss of communication in relationships – particularly with reference to family ties. Those are particularly interesting to me as I’ve experienced and seen in others within the western world, family bonds can sometimes become default, whereby parents, children, siblings can easily become strangers, however this invisible expectation of a bond holds people together, despite the cold reality of a bond that perhaps once existed fading into nothingness – leaving a group of estranged people forced into a space where they must follow a set of rules and appear to know and love each other.”

“’Now you’re just another memory locked away inside my veins’” refers to this notion of sharing blood, whilst simultaneously being estranged from another person… I think it’s important to put this idea of ‘blood ties’ aside within our society and open ourselves up to love and care for people whether we were assigned to at birth or not.”

Wyldest – aka multi-hyphenate artist Zoë Mead – shares new standalone single ‘Secret Garden’.

“‘Secret Garden’ was written at the beginning of 2025 after I came across a childhood Yamaha keyboard. I felt drawn to the limitation of creating something out of one loop and the production grew from there,” says Mead.

“The song is an ode to the Springtime and represents the beginning of a new chapter. It’s a reminder that there’s always an opportunity to start over and there’s endless growth to be had in every direction. The lyrics, reflect on the ending of a relationship and the fragile period where everything is very retrospective “Passing in the street like strangers, something that we said we’d never do, I’d still do anything for you”. As the song progresses though, strength is found to emerge and start anew “I’ll grow roots in time”.

“We all start life as tiny roots, unswayed by worldly encounters and gradually we emerge as a network of more complex roots – life can get more complicated, but our ability to feel and love grows – life becomes more meaningful and sacred. I hope it helps listeners to embrace another spring season and leverage the chance to begin again in the best possible way(s).”

Wyldest has shared her new forward-looking single ‘Tin Foil Girl’ today via Hand In Hive (TV Priest, Divorce, Blackaby). It is the third track to be taken from her new album, Feed The Flowers Nightmares, which comes out on September 9. It also follows a recent run of intimate solo slots at this year’s Glastonbury Festival and comes alongside confirmation of her UK headline tour this autumn.

‘Tin Foil Girl’ continues in the same expansive yet sophisticated vein that previous singles ‘Abilene’ and ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’ have showcased.

Wyldest’s latest release best embodies the optimistic outlook of her upcoming album. Its lyrics offer a call to action to let loose and “have a party with your body”. But its message is also imbued with a meditative undertone, which Wyldest describes as “organic happiness”, whereby facing up to anxieties and avoiding quick fixes for happiness can ultimately lead to true personal regrowth.

Speaking about the song, Wyldest says: “‘Tin Foil Girl’ is about finding your own superpower to achieve a real state of flow and what I’m coining ‘organic happiness.’ The kind of happiness that can only be achieved by doing something active rather than passive, activities that truly encourage growth.

“Having dealt with more anxiety than ever in the past few years, I’ve really had to battle this temptation for ‘quick fix’ happiness, as it doesn’t last and it can sometimes lead to worsened problems. I’m not particularly good at skateboarding, but it is therapy for me. I use it as a way of getting out of dark places and it works because I have no ego attached to it.

“Have a party with your body, make shapes and have a wonderful time doing it.”
