Philadelphia’s genre-smashing duo GHÖSH released a new single and music video titled ‘Devil Lady’ and announced their new EP PRISMASSIVE, out May 26 on Ramp Local. “I have a difficult relationship with religion,” says GHÖSH vocalist Symphony Spell about the new single. “I grew up Baptist and I hated it. Church was always a place where I felt alienated and judged. I went to the kind of church and was raised by the kind of people who find the devil in anything they don’t like. The devil is in heavy music, the devil is in dark clothing, the devil is gay and slutty. I spent a lot of time afraid of the devil even though the devil seemed to be everywhere, in everything I love. Once I decided to honor the evil in myself, I felt liberated by the power. I have spent a lot of time trying to find the archetype for evil that is powerful, feminine and coquettish. Who is the hot goddess of the underworld or the powerful witch who’s actually pretty cute? There aren’t a lot out there; evil women are so often portrayed as haggard hermits. I wrote this song to help myself embody that creature. I reference some of my favorite feminine mythological entities like harpies, sirens, Pomba Gira and Strega Nona as means to harness their energy. Honoring the wickedness in the divine feminine is radical. It feels deliciously mischievous to declare that so proudly. Am I possessed? I might be.”

Chicago newcomer RG Coca releases her new single ‘Lost It’. In the track’s visual, we see her confidence and undeniable creativity on full display, as we watch her escape the law after a failed heist. On the track, RG Coca continues to deliver the same high-energy lyricism as seen on her recent From the Block performance.

Multi-platinum recording artist Coi Leray, has released two new singles: ‘Bops’ and ‘My Body’ via Uptown Records/Republic Records. The fittingly-titled track ‘Bops’, finds Coi proudly proving her success as a chart-topping artist who can crank up a smash hit after hit.

The combination of Rico Nasty and 100 Gecs has already proven electric. Now the brash rap iconoclast and hyperpop poster children have linked up again. ‘Turn It Up’ is not the genre-bending head trip you might expect from a Rico x Gecs summit. It’s a hard, straightforward hip-hop track with lots of empty space for Rico’s bloodthirsty growl to roam around in. Right now, the Memphis rapper GloRilla is going through a wild, dizzy come-up. Earlier this year, she released ‘FNF (Let’s Go),’ an underground smash that went viral and crossed over to the Hot 100. That success won GloRilla a deal with hometown rap king Yo Gotti’s CMG label, and she made her debut for that label when she released her song ‘Tomorrow’ a couple of months ago. Now, Glorilla has a new version of ‘Tomorrow’ with her spiritual and stylistic peer Cardi B, and its video will brighten your day. Cardi and GloRilla make so much sense together. They both make assertively ratchet head-slap music, and they both sound great over hard, simple beats. In the Diesel Filmz-directed video for ‘Tomorrow 2,’ GloRilla and her friends go wild in Cardi’s New York hometown, pole-dancing on subway poles and hanging out of sunroofs. Then, Cardi herself shows up and says a whole lot of tough shit: “Bitches be on dick today, sing every word of ‘Up’ tomorrow/ Bitch, I still got cases opened, keep your mouth shut tomorrow.” [via Stereogum]

Haviah Mighty has returned with ‘Honey Bun,’ a moody new song about the surface-level pleasures of fame. Produced by Bizness Boi and Derelle Rideout, ‘Honey Bun’ represents the mentality of always wanting more once you experience success. In a press release, Mighty explained that after a breakup, she turned to the material benefits of her rising rap career for comfort, only to realize that owning a bunch of Prada and Balenciaga can only make you so happy. “The end of this relationship was the end of stability and certainty for a time. It broke my trust. It meant that my value system around building relationships had completely changed. Where I once sought authenticity in a new connection, I found my desires were only surface,” Mighty recalled. “I pivoted hard to self-validation, recognizing my co-dependency on this person only after being left behind. I began to rely heavily on having multiple beautiful partners, money, designer clothes, drugs and any other way to escape the hurt. ‘Honey Bun’ is a toxic part of my journey, but mixed with the internal conflict of knowing better deep down.” After seemingly flexing about her new lavish lifestyle, Mighty ends ‘Honey Bun’ with audio from her father, who explains what’s really important. “I reflect on parental advice, ‘don’t need nothing but yourself, that’s on my mama/father,’ and while I’m still crooning about needing ‘another one,’ through the outro my father can be heard discrediting the entire song with his take on what beauty really is,” she explained. “You’re reminded that just as your true purpose is found from going within, the true purpose of another is found within them. I must say, it’s been a while since we heard from her till she hit us up with her new jam ‘Bed Stuy Fly’. The aptly titled single sees her representing her borough to the fullest and reminding us that she never left. Her pen is still sharp as ever as she effortlessly glides over the moody backdrop made up of haunting keys and airy strings. Far from rhyming for the sake of it, Nello puts emotions into the lines with a lot of personal insight and bravado. Lines like “Duality of life I’d rather put on the leather but it gotta be vegan, I don’t beef with the extra, natural born flexer” and “Ran with Bad Boys, comb through them like the Bethas, yeah I’m on this beat like mustard, better catch-up” explore her tastes and firm demeanour as a lady who can rock with the men. Latto is channeling her “Big Energy” and taking aim at gender roles and sexism with her powerful new single, ‘Pussy.’ The defiant track, accompanied by a subversive image of a woman with her legs spread in front of a building resembling the White House, directly calls out the various types of men — politicians, abusive boyfriends, raging misogynists, incels — who attempt to control female sexuality and womanhood. It’s an aptly timed release for the rising rapper, as women across America are losing the ability to make choices about their own reproductive health following the repeal of Roe v. This week, Rico Nasty is releasing a new mixtape called Las Ruinas, the follow-up to her 2020 studio album debut Nightmare Vacation. Rising Cardiff artist Deyah has provided us with some fresh material in the form of a song titled ‘Suffa’. Deyah has been making a name for herself with smooth drops such as ‘Shoreditch’ and ‘Ultimate Dinner Party’ but she adopts a more energetic delivery on this new joint. The powerful Otis Saint Carter production prompts Deyah to come through with a hard-hitting approach; letting off her sharp bars and flows in the process. Trina really deserves more. The Miami icon has been so good for so long, that it seems as though her consistency gets her overlooked. She’s also well-known for extending her platform to younger female rappers, blessing them with both her encouragement and her cosign. Rappers whose careers she’s helped include City Girls, LightSkinKeisha and Tokyo Jetz. Fortunately, it seems at least some of the popular ladies she’s assisted remember her help and are willing to return the favor. On her latest single, ‘Clap,’ Trina reunites with Latto for a frenzied strip club anthem that finds the two rappers playing femme fatale, stressing both their beauty and their danger. I guess you could say that the song’s a warning that looks kill. In her verse, Latto goes from demanding a check for her attention to threatening, “If I reach inside this Birkin, bitch, you better duck.” On the energetic hook, the two encourage their strip club counterparts to make their backsides clap to make that money. New 10 track project tabula rasa is more considered as a result, matching the raucous Southern hip-hop she grew up with alongside what she terms “swag music…” A project that embodies personal evolution, tabula rasa is marked by a search for truth. Now, she’s dropped another new single, a collaboration with ascendant Atanta rapper Bktherula. Rico has a bunch of different styles, and the new track ‘Vaderz’ returns her to the frantic, punk-influenced SoundCloud rap that helped make her famous in the first place. The song jams a whole lot of jagged energy into two minutes, and Rico and Bktherula have great on-record chemistry. The two of them trade off lines, matching each other’s energy and lining up with each other’s punchlines.
