Ariyel released hauntingly cathartic new single ‘sister sister’ ft. Emily Sangder

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest and now based in Colorado, Ariyel is an independent alt-pop artist who crafts introspective, emotionally charged music rooted in themes of love, trauma, and recovery. Her signature blend of ambient textures, raw storytelling, and intimate vocals has drawn comparisons to artists like Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo and earned her praise from critics across the indie landscape.

Ariyel’s new single ‘sister sister’, featuring Emily Sangder, is a deeply felt second single from her forthcoming concept album—an alt-pop project that unflinchingly explores the complex emotional terrain of living with CPTSD. The track is a shimmering, slow-burning dream pop anthem that invites listeners into the rarely discussed emotional intimacy between women bound by shared trauma.

“I had a dream where the other woman reached for my hand,” Ariyel says. “Even if I never get that in real life, this song helped me let go of the anger. I hope it can do that for others, too.”

Written late in the album process, ‘sister sister’ stands as a moment of reflection and transformation. While the theme of “the other woman” often breeds animosity, Ariyel flips the narrative, reimagining it as a place for unexpected sisterhood, shared understanding, and painful growth. It’s a love letter to the possibility of empathy where resentment once lived.

Produced by august mez, the track builds from Ariyel’s original mellotron-laced demo into a full-bodied alt-pop slow-burner. Harmonies by longtime friend and vocalist Emily Sangder, alongside vocal production from Joshua Evan Lee, enrich the sonic palette with warmth and intimacy.

“This was one of those therapy songs,” Ariyel shares. “I worked through the animosity I’d been holding onto and came out the other side. I hope it helps people feel less alone.”
