Bekah Bossard (she/they) kicks off 2026 with her new single ‘Mothers By July’, out everywhere now – following a snippet of the track going viral on social media.
‘Mothers By July’ is a candid portrayal of queer love and emotional vulnerability that has resonated particularly strongly within FLINTA and wider LGBTQ+ communities, where Bekah’s music is being embraced as both representation and release. Produced by Kristofer Harris, the track is a tender indie-pop cut that pairs dreamy, intimate vocals with delicate strings and gentle guitar lines.
Speaking of the track, Bekah says, “This song is about coming to terms with the fact that I can never get accidentally pregnant with my girlfriend. It sounds like such an obvious thing to be aware of, but I don’t think it really hit me til one day we were talking about what our kid would look like, and we both felt a little pit in our stomachs that we would never know. And my girlfriend half jokingly said, “write a song about that”, so I did!
“When we are raised with binaries and traditional futures in mind, sometimes as queer people, as full of love and acceptance our lives can be, we also have to grieve not getting some things we were “promised” or were expected when we were younger. And it’s okay to feel sad about that, while simultaneously knowing our lives are full and enough regardless.”
