Brighton and South London alt-pop duo CATBEAR return with their latest single ‘It’s Okay’, out today. Written, recorded and produced by Zoe Konez, the track is a soaring anthem of self-acceptance and visibility, inspired by conversations about queer identity and belonging in your late 30s and beyond.
Building from quiet reflection into euphoric choruses, ‘It’s Okay’ moves with pulsing synths, driving beats and Zoe’s ethereal vocals rising above them in defiance. The lyrics reject compromise – “No more fake smiles, no more compromise” – and affirm resilience and pride: “It’s okay, you made it, you don’t have to prove yourself to anyone.” The result is a powerful statement that places CATBEAR alongside queer synth-pop voices such as Robyn, MUNA, Shura and Christine and the Queens.
“This song is about reaching a point where you stop apologising for yourself,” says Zoe. “It’s inspired by conversations about being queer in your late 30s and beyond – belonging, visibility, and being proud of the lives we’ve built. It’s a reminder that it’s okay to take up space, and to show the next generation that we’re still here, thriving.”
