After her powerful return with ‘God, We Tried’ earlier this spring, Charlotte OC continues her artistic rebirth with the announcement of her new EP Seriously Love, Go Home, and the release of its next single ‘Romeo’.
Where ‘God, We Tried’ explored the fallout of grief and misaligned love, ‘Romeo’ is its warm, redemptive counterpoint—a swooning, soul-infused track about meeting someone unexpectedly at exactly the right time. Built on simmering production and Charlotte’s trademark emotionally-rich vocal, it captures that feeling of rare romantic alignment after everything else has unravelled.
A gorgeous guitar-dappled tune sung with an alluring swagger. “Met your match in me/ Late-night lothario…” Her voice is loaded with rock and roll grit, redolent of Patti Smith’s famous growl, as she slides from a low croon to a captivating trill. “It’s about meeting someone and realising how similar you are, like maybe neither of you are angels,” she says with a laugh. “But maybe two wrongs can make a right, where you’re stronger together and no one else can keep up.”
Speaking about the video, directed by Stewart Baxter, Charlotte divulges “I wanted to create something that reflects how easy it is to become accustomed to destroying everything that comes your way—when chaos is all you’ve known, or when nothing has ever made you want to stay. And then I wanted to capture the moment when someone comes along and, without even realizing it you both begin to meet in the middle. There’s no grand gesture—just a quiet, mutual effort to grow, to heal, to fix the parts of you that have long been broken, but only start to mend in the presence of the other.”
