Acclaimed singer-songwriter Charlotte OC makes a powerful return with her deeply personal new single, ‘God, We Tried’, out today via Embassy of Music. Marking a new era and artistic direction, the track is the first glimpse of an upcoming EP set for release in early summer, one that sees Charlotte reclaiming her voice and artistry on her own terms.
A poignant and raw reflection on love, loss, and grief, ‘God, We Tried’ was written in the aftermath of Charlotte’s father’s passing, during a period of emotional turbulence that saw her seeking solace in a relationship that ultimately wasn’t meant to last.
“This song is deeply personal to me, I started writing it after my dad passed away. In my grief, I ended up in a relationship that probably wasn’t the healthiest choice for me, and I wasn’t truly allowing myself to heal. If I think about it, all I wanted was a male figure in my life, to fill a void.
“‘God, We Tried’ reflects the end of that relationship and the emotional complexity of trying to make something work when it really wasn’t right. It’s about love, loss, and the struggle to move forward while still processing deep grief,” says Charlotte.
Watch the official video for ‘God, We Tried’ shot in Blackburn and directed by Stewart Baxter below. Speaking about the video Charlotte adds, “Shooting the artwork and video around my hometown of Blackburn was an incredibly meaningful and cathartic experience. I wanted to show some love to my hometown and all its facets that have shaped my identity, telling the story of how coming back here helped me regain clarity after the car crash of a time I had in London.”
